$500 just to look? WTF?

Well I’ve enjoyed my 15 minutes of wasting time browsing their site - and sent an e-mail to them

Couldn’t help myself

It means it’s dad was a Poodle (you know…they don’t bother people with allergies.) The result is a Draftiepoo.

Looks like further down the page they’re talking about Canadian Sport Horses.

I’m not supposed to laugh this loudly at work! Oh. My. Goodness.

Wait, aren’t the Bashkir Curly horses supposed to be hypoallergenic? They say that this filly has curly hair, so maybe Dad was a Bashkir? Didn’t think any of them were at PMU farms, but maybe she’s an “oops” baby…

Wow, all their horses must be terribly flighty…

And this one is their best kept secret! A circuit quality! Children’s hunter! Round pen trained as a weanling!

It is my understanding that these people are essentially middle-men – that they do not really own all of the horses (like theones in Canada). Rather, they arrange sales here and then purchase from Canada farms. I think they’re worried you’ll go directly to the farm in Canada to buy the horse (probably a lot cheaper). This is just my assumption from reading the web site.

If they had a contract to sell the horse and you were aware of it and went to buy the horse direct from a dealer, there might be tortious interference with contractual relations… but who knows – so is their blocking of a private sale, etc. So I doubt they have much leg to stand on.

AHA!

Yep, they’re definitely PMU’s…which they apparently don’t want the general public to now know about.
Here’s ad copy from the same place on a horse sales site:

Virginia Sport Horses (VSH) specializes in selecting, importing, breaking and training Canadian Sport Horses. Most horses listed are either on our farm in Montpelier Va. or on their way from one of the 30 sporthorse ranches that we represent. Each individual horse listing will tell you the present location and the date that the horse will be in Virginia. Many of our horses come from current or former PMU ranches and we are proud of the role that we have played in placing and providing careers for over 300 of these horses in the last 3 yrs. We select horses personally and carefully to ensure their HEALTHY arrival on our farm.

We sell and deliver horses directly from the ranches, and from our farm. Importation and up to 3,000 miles of transportation is included in the VA farm price. Horses sold over the internet direct from the ranch are priced differently.

On this page there is a listing for a horse named Runner- it’s alphabetical, check it out- who is reduced to $7,500 from $6,000! REDUCED!

Where do they learn math? Can I get some? If so, I would like my paycheck reduced, please…

 Rut, roh, Rorge…

Actually, I would, if they said what they were, a PMU brokerage place and I was buying a PMU. I’d do it for the same reason that my friend bought a PMU and put him in pro. reining training; to try to minimize the damage the PMU industry does to horses.

I don’t think I ever said they weren’t factory, just that factory isn’t as offensive when it comes to getting PMUs homes, as the attempt at trying to hide the “factory” nature of the place.

As for their other fees, they can make their policies whatever they want. If I was buying a PMU from any other place, there’d be no returns, vettings, etc. This site is offensive only because it’s trying to make the less experienced think it’s a breeding type farm, then instituting policies that would be unheard of at a breeding farm. In reality though, those policies simply make it exactly like all the other PMU brokers on the internet, just one with an unethical (IMHO) marketing scheme.

Giggling…this place sure is great at ad copy:

This horse is transitioning seamlessly from a seasoned 6 year old carriage horse to a serious dressage and jumping prospect.Search the entire internet…you will not find another Shire/Hackney cross of any age, sex, gender or training level. This cross is far superior to the TB/Clyde or Clyde/Hackney cross

Hi,

I can honestly say I’ve “seen it all” now. I truly wonder if this is a “real” business or some child/computer geek/nerd type with too much time on his/her hands that has done a “spoof” site. Anyone can “take” pics from other sites (never mind the legalities right now) and then write a bunch of overblown “stuff” to get people going.

If it is real, then there are a lot of folks in this world that are being taken for a “ride”…and not a horse ride either…

if the site is spoofed - I gotta give the folks credit…they are danged good!! cause no way in Hades would I ever send someone a non refundable deposit to look at a horse and etc…ad naseum.

As far as paypal goes: It works, especially if one wants to pay an “instant” type deposit to hold a horse until you can drive a day or so to look at it. Also works well when paying for stud fees for AI’d stallions. Owners get their money pronto, I get the paypal protection, and the owner doesn’t need to worry about “when will the payment arrive, is the check good, and I don’t have to wait for the “check to clear before shipment is made”, etc.”.

Paypal also pays a very good rate of return on funds…much better than many banks…but I still think ING direct pays better interest on the regular “savings” account - not that any of us horse people have savings, unless we are “saving to buy something else horse related”…lol…

This has to be a bean counter who is getting into the horse business.

The biggest irony on the site is the line about being able to cancel the sale b/c these are their horses and they care where they go.

Um… what about the horses they can “liquidate” - ?

No, he’s not old really, born in 1992.

And he is most certainly not “irish bred” LOL.
I will say one thing, after my TS filly tried to kill me several times she did turn pretty sweet and is a great mover

they have his name spelled wrong. lovely.
truculent schular

“you will not find another Shire/Hackney cross of any age, sex, gender or training level.”

I stopped my previous post. Words cannot express…

LMAO here.

I know Belladonna…I was almost crying from laughing when I found that ad. And just think…I won’t be able to find a nicer Shackney anywhere!

I don’t think it’s a scam and actually when we use to breed and sell horses I startedx taking a deposit before the horses were tried because I had a girl come try a 4 yr old and kill it and not even offer to pay the vet expenses or euthanization after she caused the horse to break its pelvis in 15 places! …Yeah…I was a little put off on letting people just come try my horses and kick tires after that. But… if they didn’t purchase the horse and the horse was tried and was still in one piece their money was refunded. These people sound a bit extreme but having been in their position it is a big PITA to have people coming to your farm just to ride your horses and not buy anything and while there are alot of serious buyers out there, there are also alot of tire kickers.

Their horses must poop gold.

Maybe they are just trying to eliminate Tire Kickers…

I could see some Farms doing that becuz ppl just show up to ride an awesome horse, w/no intention to buy…Believe me, I’ve wanted to go to a Friesian farm, but my I know it would be wrong…some ppl don’t have those ethics.

That’s what I was thinking. Maybe she just happened to have curly hair (possibly she was wet and fuzzy or just has curly baby hair?) and the smooth-talkers at this place figured they would run with the whole Bashkir Curly concept and market her as a Hypoallergenic Warmblood. I mean, that’s a pretty good marketing tool…
