i am not looking forward to it. At least the weather will be not-too-cold. We’ve lambed in Feb/March and i’ve spent many nights in the barn in an electric blanket. Not very excited about this escapade as the window for mares is MUCH longer than it is for ewes. Them, (assuming you know bred-date, is just about 5 days either way.

lol. And my veterinarian is a veterinarian.

I just wanted to make sure you were not discounting Ghazzu as just some forum poster.

not at all. What that comment did was cause me to go a-google. I didn’t have any doubt when MY veterinarian told me i had 34 days to give her that shot…that was as i understood THE timeline. And it is of course too late to do anything now. But i’ll google-around tonight when i get in and see what’s up with the timeline thing.

I suspect the confusion comes from the “problem” with endometrial cup formation in the mare. If the pregnancy is terminated after their formation ~40 days after conception, they will persist up to ~150 days post-conception and the mare will not cycle.
Since the most common use of PG F-2alpha analogues is in broodmares, this generally means the loss of an entire breeding season, so the earlier the better.
It also may take a higher dose of the drug in later timeframes.

I think when conditions allow, time outside the arena is great for everyone’s health. I made the match of the friend on the left and her pinto, and they are a PERFECT match. She wanted to trail ride safely, and he had a history hunting in mountains, carting around beginners in lessons, and just being a good seed.
The friend on the right was on her first trail ride in a long time. The horses were all fabulous! (Also, I can’t get over all the movement in my mare’s shoulders, since I’m not normally looking at them!)

She looks like a sweetie. Congrats!

I’ll dip my toe back in here. I was the OP of the joy thread, and then our joy took a hiatus. I was worried it was a permanent one. But as it always does, the itch came roaring back. I found a new coach and not a word of a lie the old man prances on to the trailer when it’s time to haul out.

We’re slowly figuring things out again and I’m making a huge effort to ride regularly at home. Fingers crossed it gets us somewhere.

There are few things better than realizing your young horse is growing up and putting on his big boy pants. Took HTBF Colonel Brandon, my 6-year-old Morgan gelding, to a recognized show this weekend. I had to scratch him from the regionals due to an injury but despite having to be out of work for a couple of weeks, having to transition to barefoot and working in this awful heat, he was so darn good. He competed in 4 tests at first level. Getting a low score of 63 to a high of 66, first level test 3, an improvement from his previous attempt back in April. He earned some 7s for his lengthenings, square halts, stretchy circle, leg yields and an 8 for his downward transition to the walk. Placings weren’t anything to write home about but he did end up second in First level test 2 (and would have been second in First level test 1 if his aging rider hadn’t gone off course due to forgetting the test). The best part was that he seemed to be starting to really ‘get it’ which will only get better with time. The judges all gave him 7s for his gaits too.

I saw your excellent scores! Congrats! Any chance you’re coming down here the 18th-19th? I was impressed by scores at that show - looked like pretty much all my friends had great rides, didn’t seem to matter which judge!

daughter took her six year old Morgan to Morgan Nationals where they took a world and a national championship in dressage and are the national champion Sport Horse in Hand -Mares coming third in the world championship by 1/10 of one point

Mare spent her first five years in a pasture since the owner was a trainer who did not have time to work his horse as he was overrun with clients horses. She never was saddled until May 2022, since then she has won Dressage divisions in open Class A’s that were used to qualify her for Nationals (2022 and 2023). She is a at home horse trained by daughter under the guidance of her trainer who had given her this horse after her young horse was euthanized after a pasture accident.

forgot to add on her dressage test score sheets there was a notation by the scribe to help them remember who was who in the tests “Teenager in light colored” … daughter took that as a real win as she is 37… her scores were in mid 70s

No. I’ll be moving to Prescott that weekend. Good luck on your rides.

Took my 8yo OTTB to his second dressage schooling show for a couple of intro tests and some off-property experience. It was light years better than our first schooling outing back in 2021, where he bolted through the first trot transition, had a few other green moments and the judge didn’t have a single kind or constructive thing to say despite the event being a grassroots fix-a-test.

Really pleased with how this trip went, though. He marched into two unfamiliar indoors like a champ, handled leaving his travel buddy at the trailer, and gave me two nice tests. He didn’t put a foot wrong despite being a little tense and distracted in a new environment. He finally relaxed enough at the end of the second test to soften into a beautiful square halt which got us the 8. Pretty darn proud of that.

It went a long way to encouraging me to come back to dressage shows after swearing off of them for a couple of years with that first bad experience.

you guys look great together!

Good Job! If your halt was perfect, it should have been a “10”! I just don’t understand why some judges are so reluctant to give them out. Congrats!!

Wow… that’s an awesome difference. Lovely neck!

I don’t have anything to brag about other then my newly resurfaced MOJO. We had a good lesson this week, total 180 from last week, because we rode consistently. I’m taking advantage of every single good weather day to keep it going and just came back from a ride. The biggest improvement is me. Far less nervous about riding alone and much more trusting of him, which allows me to make the corrections and ask for the forward.

I mean we’re no hell - I get a nice trot a quarter lap. But it’s a massive improvement over the squealing refusals to move forward at all I had a few weeks ago.

His topline is looking really good and all the right things are happening. We might have a hope at a season of intro yet!

We’re first level State Champions!

It was tough getting back into showing, and my new coach strongly encouraged me when I was hesitant. I’m proud to be doing all the riding and do so well! (And I’m also not too proud, so will likely have a few months of training this summer!)

We also got 8s on our final centerline from all 3 judges at the show between our two tests. I just love this horse!
