Good on you!
My young horse has had her first few rides under saddle and while naturally a bit bemused by her change of circumstances, has done really well with the new questions being asked of her. She is figuring out the balance with a rider and is starting to step out quite nicely, and it is making the steering questions easier and easier with each ride as she gains confidence in her balance for use of corners and basic figures like circles.
I’m really just delighted with how things are going.
But if you could send the neck fairy our way, @Sancudo, that would be grand. We could do with a visit!
Congrats @netg!

The gal who was jumping my little mare for me went to Ocala for the winter. I, the dressage rider, don’t mind jumping her a bit at home, but last weekend I put on my big girl breeches and piloted her through the 2’ and 2’3" courses a local show. The first go was a little lumpy due to my nerves about navigating some of the funky lines in the course, but the second go was quite nice, if I say so myself.

My big mare is really coming on by leaps and bounds the last couple months (after 3+ years under saddle). I realized I’ve been neglecting CC, so we worked on it last night and it was actually a mostly controlled exercise. I was also finally able to introduce rein-back and she didn’t use it as an excuse to grow roots or start running backwards. I have hope of a 2nd level horse by spring!
Congratulations! Gosh the last time I was 1st level state champion was eons ago, on Monty, and had food poisoning to boot. My scores back then were nearly as impressive; but, it seems that the 1st level championship for our state is always rather heavily contested. Your ride (saw it on Facebook) was lovely. Your horse is such a effortless mover and you two are a great team. Also glad the weather was on your side. Got home to Scottsdale to see the after effects of a storm that blew through on Sat night/Sun morning.
Lovely horse! So engaged, but relaxed at the same time.
Thank you! She is just such a doll, even hard work is simply a joy. After my acrobatic idiot and my mare with so many physical issues, I appreciate every moment with this girl!
Thank you! She’s pretty, she moves nicely, but her personality is absolutely the best part of her - every positive impression you have of her temperament from watching her is totally accurate

Yay!!! Finally I was able to shorten the video enough to upload it . Of course now it is very short but it shows my mare with my trainer and her new trot.
Not sure why she was the first trainer who made her do it.
So nice!!
Thank you!!! This Saturday I entered a test with her IF we don’t get stuck in snow . We had a lot of snow today !!
So I am getting a bit nervous whether we will be able to do the test with this trot…. I started with this trainer a little over a month ago so not sure how stable the whole thing is!
It will only get better with time! And good luck with the test.
I was having a bad week - had to euthanize a 3yo for colic and I was thinking of canceling my lesson. I decided to go anyway. We had been working on flying changes, but not counted ones. Instructor said “try a line of 4’s”. OK, check. “Now three’s”. OK, check. “Now two’s”. Twos??? I can’t do twos! Well, apparently I can! I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face! It was the first time I had smiled in over a week.
The one’s are another story LOL. Can’t seem to keep my butt in the saddle - we’ll get there.
I’m so sorry about the loss of the 3-year-old. That’s hard. But glad you went to the lesson and had such a wonderful time!!! How exciting!! Wow!
Virtual hugs to you, sorrelfilly721. Sorry for your loss. But you rocked your lesson! I’m glad you decided to go and ride. Riding and horses can be the best therapy!
Coming here because I think my friends are getting tired of hearing my gush about my boy. After two back surgeries last year (for me), I started off the new year getting back in the saddle and starting right where I had left off in november with the introduction of the passage thanks to my wonderful coach. Didn’t think I’d be passaging 2 months later
This was today!
Plus a terribly grainy still shot
Great job! That’s awesome to see.
My coach told me i was a good rider yesterday.
Not sure whether it’s a brag, but I had a lesson with my 5 year old today with my Trainer.
I bought her as a foal and backed her when she was coming four and last year I took her to clinics and to a seminar for young horse judges as a demo horse to get her used to all kinds of situations.
She was turned out for the winter and looks fat and hairy in the moment .
Well the trainer and me were very happy with her in the lesson today.
And the rider in the lesson after me who is also boarding her horse in my barn said that she had never seen my horse moving, ( because she is so hairy she probably thought she was something like a trail horse ) and that she was a beautiful mover and if I would ever consider to sell her she would buy her right away.
well she is not a sales horse but somehow this felt good
One day we need to see a video of you riding one of your mustangs
One day I hope to own one, they are very popular in my area as I’ve posted before. I’ve ridden a few.
I was supposed to show my horse yesterday at our first schooling show of the year, but me falling off 2 weeks ago and getting carted to the ER by ambulance prevented that from happening. So my trainer showed my horse instead, and I’m so glad he did! We’re schooling Third+ at home, but I was only going to show First level. My trainer, OTOH, is schooling PSG with him, so I signed them up for Third-1. I don’t have a clue what they placed in the class because we didn’t stick around to see everyone else go, but they ended up earning a very respectable 67.02%! I’m absolutely thrilled, considering it was only my horse’s third ever show and the first time he’s shown at that level. He had some moments of tension, but overall, he was a very good boy!
