What a wonderful change from the holding pen!

Oh sheā€™s so cute. Love the ears and her eyes seem very kind. I think she will be eating out of your hand very soon.

Abby is eating out my hand and likes her scratches. She follows me around when I clean her paddock, even letting me walk around behind her. She also stands very still for her twice a day fly spray. She hates ointment, but I can spray a medicine on her fly bites. I found one that doesnā€™t sting. Weā€™ll play with the halter today.

Success! Abby let me put Swat on her legs. Such a sweet burro. She watched as I put boots on Tony. Her new fly boots should come in soon. :grinning:

I love Abby! So glad she has found her place with you!

Has she sung any songs of her people to you? It may not be rational, but I love the sound of donkey song. Well maybe not at 6 in the morning. But otherwise I find it comforting, for some reason.

Only once. She was calling Tony before they were together. :revolving_hearts:

Weā€™ve progressed to brushing and she let me put her halter on today. There was no coercion or treats. I just told her she was a good girl.

We were out of town for a funeral and a graduation so I didnā€™t have any updates. Abigail was well-behaved for the farm sitters. She let them fly spray her and put Swat on, as needed. The fly situation is much better now.

It appears that Abigail learns well by example. Sheā€™s shown me that with brushes and haltering. Today, I tied Tony up and picked up each of his feet. I didnā€™t pick them out. I just picked them up and put them down. Then, I walked over to Abigail, (she waits for her turn patiently). I brushed her and then ran my hand down each of her legs, just like I did with Tony. She picked up three out of four! Smart girl! She still hasnā€™t been tied or led at this point. Sheā€™s very cooperative and doesnā€™t move away when I work with her. I will put the halter on her again. Iā€™m just enjoying how well she responds without it. I feel like sheā€™s showing me such amazing trust already.

Abigail is so tolerant. Thieving neighboring goats are even tolerated.

I have a bit of an issue. Tony the mini donkey, Abigailā€™s companion, is extremely jealous whenever I give attention to Abigail. He threw a total tantrum this morning. They both got attention, so he shouldnā€™t be jealous, but he sure was! His behavior when he as given to us was atrocious (rearing, biting, lunging at people). He regressed to that during his tantrum. I had to chase him off with the lead rope, but it took him a long time to calm down. Iā€™ll have to keep working at it.

I spoke with the farm sitters and Tony terrorized them while we were gone. So, yeah, regression. I had a few CTJ meetings with him the last few days to remind him that heā€™s not allowed to approach me with his ears back (biting always follows). Abigail watches these sessions with amusement. She even walks up to me for a few pats in the middle and stares at Tony as if telling him that sheā€™s the ā€œgood childā€.

Of course you canā€™t tolerate bad/dangerous behavior, but I kind of feel sorry for Tony. He was the only child, now has a new sister getting attention. However, he will just have to learn to deal with it.
