Colin Firth was smokin’ hot on a horse in Pride and Prejudice. Viggo Mortensen seems to ride well also. And then I think one of the Olsen twins goes to WEF?

@SnicklefritzG It’s so funny you mention Colin Firth because I just re-watched the entire 1995 version of Pride & Prejudice and also watched an online documentary on YouTube about the making of it. Not about Colin Firth, but Crispin Bonham-Carter (who played Mr. Bingley)…if you drag to around minute seven there’s a funny little anecdote about how he struggled with the horseback riding scenes during the making of P&P:

I’m actually not sure if Firth rides regularly, but he certainly looked good on a horse during P&P!
This is a great thread and a great list–I didn’t know about some of these celebrity riders! Portia de Rossi rides. Also, not an actor, but the author of The Outsiders, S.E. Hinton, is a very serious rider as you can probably tell if you’ve read her books. I follow her on twitter and she tweets about horses from time to time.

Kate Upton was quite accomplished as a youth competing in APHA events, including several reserve championships at worlds. I think she has a sister that still competes.
Sam Elliott, Katherine Ross, and Bruce Boxleitner. Billy Crystal bought his horse from City Slickers.
Christie Brinkley rides cutting horses, and English. Martha Stewart has Fresians.

Actors used to come to the Silver Hound in England to learn to ride for movies.
A big name mounted and Mum stepped back and said, “Oh you can ride.”
He said., " No I can’t, but I once played the part of a riding instructor where I was filmed sitting on a horse, so I was taught how to sit on a horse.

Martin Clunes- he has a lovely series you can see on Youtube about working horses around the world. He rides, and has 2 clyde geldings that he drives.

Interestingly, though, I believe Kaley Cuoco has stated in an interview before that she wants to be known as the rider who acts, not the actor who rides .
I’m not usually jealous of celebrities, but boy am I jealous of her string of horses and her barn

Johnny Depp rides and owns some horses.
Of course Madonna rides and rode through NYC on the David Letterman show, with Letterman who also rides.

Oprah Winfrey apparently owns horses in Hawaii, not sure if she actually rides them.
Steven Spielberg owns racehorses…pretty sure he doesn’t ride those particular horses though I would like to see him in a race one day.

OK, listen, I linked the above list because:
1 - look at the picture of Viggo Mortensen
2 - They said Mitt Romney and his wife own “dancing horses” (and there is a picture of Mitt in what looks like a dressage competition, which does impress me - I thought only his wife rode). I’m not dogging the website, that’s literally how I describe dressage to non-horsey people so it is most appropriate for the audience
3 - judging by the picture of Joe Perry, I feel like he has a seeing eye horse.
OMG. Matt LeBlanc owns a horse and his daughter is taking lessons…muahaha
I also know (as I’m sure many of you do) Bruce Sprinsteen’s daughter rides, as well as the daugher of the owner of BET.
