Djones, I can understand why you’re frustrated, bitter and possibly resentful … it is not your fault.
And yes, changing spots on a leopard is a hopeless endeavour.
What I took away from OverandOnwards very helpful post is that sometimes it’s the background, context and set up that makes what feels impossible be possible. We do it with horses all the time. Find a way to pitch it in an easy going “this is what will be easiest for you” approach and often that will allow the guard to come down and what needs to be done, done.
Different for each person/family/context, but think about how the approach can be reframed to make it their idea, even if it is really yours. Sometimes you need the professional to do that part of the explaining, as the family members have too much history to be able to make that pitch effectively. So don’t hesitate to loop them in as appropriate!
