Title says it all. What are my options?
Acavallo makes a couple of different safety stirrups. They might be worth checking into–they’re in the $200 to $250 range.
Thankyou. Not very affordable when I am looking to replace stirrups on several saddles, though
They don’t exist. The safety stirrups that aren’t peacock stirrups are all too expensive to replace on lesson saddles etc.
People will tell you to use cages which obviously isn’t really a good or nice looking option.
We had a pony kid who used these. She showed in them and everything. They’re not CHEAP if you need to put them on a bunch of lesson saddles, but they also aren’t $200 either.
I ordered some Waldhausen from overseas that were about $100 but they’ve been out of stock and it’s been a month since I bought them so…
There just don’t seem to be any that are “cheap.”
Realistically for the hunter ring there are no safety stirrups. The fillis style stirrup is still pretty much what everyone uses. I have Acavallo stirrups for the jumpers and I love them but even as full silver I don’t think they would look appropriate in the hunter ring.
American Equus makes a safety stirrup for the hunter ring that is very popular.
True, but it’s about $350 isn’t it?
You said “realistically for the hunter ring there are no safety stirrups.” I’m answering that statement. The American Equus is pricy but it is widely used and appropriate for the hunter ring.
Also, if any stirrups are too expensive new it is quite easy to find many of these secondhand via Facebook Marketplace, the Tried Equestrian, or similar.
I have thought about those type stirrups with the bent leg…does anyone have any statistics on how well they work?
I judge hunters and equitation for a living. WE do NOT care what kind of stirrups you use…I promise. In equitation they should be somewhat traditional looking but I have Jins and several Big Equ Finals have been won by riders with those and other non traditional Fillis stirrups
I meant on a budget… probably should have included that part.
I don’t think you’ll find actual statistics for any stirrups, but I’ve seen the s-curves used with beginners and therapy riders and can confirm they work.
