I’m in the auction business; this is a known tactic and it’s very shady. I don’t want to cast aspersions on any business but that’s a huge red flag to me in the industry.
You can call Andy and ask if perhaps that bid fell through and he would take an offer. I am not far and am happy to pick her up and find her somewhere short term to hang out if you don’t want to board her there until you can pick up
So I guess being banned from sport for 10 years doesn’t prevent him from still being in the sport. How does he prepare these horses for sale? If someone else shows them, aren’t they still considered “involved” with AK? I’m confused.
Ok, so he just runs the auction part but isn’t training or working the auction horses? Well, I guess that makes sense in a way. After all, he probably does still have to make a living. Not that I am saying anything other than that. I am not a fan of his behavior.
While some of the auction horses are located at his farm, not all of them are. It says in each lot description where the horse is located. I know I saw New Jersey, Missouri, Florida, and Maryland among the locations in a very quick glance
And actually, a quick look through his Instagram doesn’t show any of the auction horses as being at his farm. All the posts about this auction are photos from shows or other locations, with just a note saying when bidding is open.
It’s called shill bidding. Essentially sellers will list and item with no reserve hoping to get a lot of interest, but when the bid doesn’t reach the amount they want they bid on their own listing, artificially upping the bid. It’s illegal but hard to enforce.
The reason this made me think that this was a shill bid was the huge jump. No regular person would bid 2x the price out of nowhere, a minute before the auction ends. Thats nonsensical.
I would not be surprised if we see her for sale again, somewhere else, or even back on the same site.
Wow, one 1.30m class with 33 faults with an amateur GP rider…not technically false advertising but jeez, hardly what I would advertise to people is “an amateur friendly 1.30 horse”.
