AK auction lot #1

So I went to HorseTelex. From what I can tell (and I am not an expert, but love to search stuff like this), the dam, Ilona (a KWPN), had two foals that year 2004 from Quinar. One named Quinny (no Z on that one) and another by the name of Quiny Z. Both registered Zangershide. Maybe one was by embryo transfer?
The Quinny one has a record to 1.35 (according to Horse Telex). The Quiny Z had foals in 2021 (McSteamy) and 2023 (Fins Up) but no record next to her name. (They usually only post notable performances like above 1.30.)

So who know if anything we are reading is correct on that horse, other than she is bred well.

I think this is her. There are other videos posted by this same YouTube account.

She’s lovely.

How can it be that none of her owners thought to retire her?

Sad, right? You’d hope that any of the people who are on her long long usef record would hear she was 20 and for sale to the highest bidder to anyone who wants to roll the dice to try to get one more baby out of her would step in, but sadly I know from experience a lot of people don’t think that way

As of 6:30 no response. I’d call but I can’t find a number on the site.

Maybe they have no clue? I don’t think AK’s auctions are so well followed that everyone in the horse community is aware of what horse is selling.

I’m sure I have it, let me look through my phone. I bid a year ago or so on one and I’m pretty sure he called me to confirm something. (I ended up not winning)

ETA: sent you his number in PM

Right I mean I doubt that they know, but my experience with Poofy was that even when people DO find these things out, a surprising number DGAF.

I don’t think that is the same mare. Conformation photo showed a low right hind sock too.

This one?

You’re not wrong

Common occurrence. The other sporthorse auction company does not discourage it.

Do you know breeding on Ilona?

I believe this is the mare: https://www.horsetelex.com/horses/pedigree/2482229/quiny-z

Thanks, not sure that’s the horse I knew, but thanks

While shill bidding could be an option, it’s unlikely. The horse didn’t even sell for $1,000. It’s entirely possible someone wanted the horse and just put in their max bid to be done with it. I have seen it done plenty of times, it’s not like their max big was a lot and they only increased it by $300. It’s not like they went from $360 to $3500 or something.

The winning bid was $768, that’s below meat prices and well below the value of this horse if she’s broodmare sound. People pay more for aged lame grade horses. If the seller was having someone shill bid they would have put in more.

He runs the auction as well as rides and trains the horses. He’s not banned from riding, that is not a thing (although in some cases it should be).

I thought the same thing but the horse is wearing short boot things to protect her fetlocks which cover the pasterns. You can see white on both her back legs if you watch her going.

It looks like a lot of the horses in the auction didn’t meet reserve either.

I hope you get info on the mare!
