Thoroughbreds and Trailer Trash was free for a while, not sure if it still is but I enjoyed it!
At Risk by Kit Ehrman is free right now.
I have only read the first 1/3 but it is better than the average horse book.
How do you cram 7 jumpers into a 6 horse older face to face gooseneck? Is it possible or just bad editing?

Great idea! How do people find these books? I got this one while it was still free, but it’s not free now -
People here were poking fun of it, but it’s actually a fun lowbrow read.

We put a smaller horse in the little middle compartment… Load them last, tie them up facing one they won’t harass and voila!
I liked At-Risk a lot. I downloaded the other book by the same author; still haven’t started it yet. I think it’s more racehorse-leaning?

I generally go to the Amazon site. Then in the search field pull down Kindle store, type in horse (or whatever key word you might be looking for).
You’ll get a whole bunch of stuff then I go to the “sort by” menu and select “price, low to high”. The free books come up first. There are some “interesting” titles that show up. 
At Risk was quite good, I thought. I’m among the ones who can’t stomach Trophies, FWIW.
The description for the Thoroughbred Conspiracy is a bit of a howler –

How can a disturbance be ravenous? And how can “efforts and passions” INTERPRET anything? Still, always good to know about the freebies and cheapies.

Wouldn’t at least one of the 6 horses facing the isle have the center horse for lunch? Not that it would matter in the book the horses were being stolen anyhow.
I also bought the second book, if the first book weren’t free as a teaser I wouldn’t have bought the second in the series.
I was WIPED (mentally) after reading “The World According to Monsanto” just before Christmas. I’d seen Kit Ehrmann’s books mentioned (on here? somewhere) and downloaded all four and devoured them during the holidays! A good, mindless read (don’t interpret ‘mindless’ as anything negative - just that they don’t require brain-strain).
Learned a bit about racing, breeding/foaling out while I was at it, too.
