Well, the title is intriguing, and it’s free!

“On the Buckle,” as mentioned above, is an exceptional book, at least so far. I’m at about the 20% mark and enjoying it thoroughly, though I would like to smack the heroine upside the head a few times for her idiocy at times. Despite her bad choices, though, she is a good horsekeeper, and finds herself running a hack barn in Missouri as part of a requirement to receive a trust fund. She has to hold a job for a year and earn a glowing recommendation. Of course, she has issues about everything, and serious problems getting over things.

But I knew I loved the author when she described something as being “as useful as a fart in a mitten.”
I must remember that!

I second the On the Buckle review above - I’m 52% in and am really enjoying it! It’s fairly well-written, and pretty entertaining!

Finished “On The Buckle,” and it was definitely on the money! I really enjoyed it. Now to see if there’s any others in the series.

Just downloaded “At Risk” for free, amystery about a young guy who’s running a stable.

Just downloaded the following e-books. I have no idea how good they’ll be or how long they’ll stay free, but free they are for now

Too late on Keeping the Peace, but it’s a good 'un. I got it free a few months ago and read it. Yes, it’s a mystery romance, but it’s well written and it kept my interest. I ditch a book within the first 10 percent if it wobbles, sometimes in the first three pages, so for something to keep me engaged long enough to read it, it has to be good. Of course there are those that I flick through the pages to see how it turns out, not quite aggravated enough to dump it but not enthralled, either.

Most freebies make a repeat appearance, so put this one on your wish list and check your wish list daily for free books. I’ve snagged a couple that way. Several of the Bluegrass series have been free, too, off and on. Those are on my iffy list, though. The first one was WOW, the second one was not my cup of tea. Haven’t put time into #3 yet or whatever the next one is that I have. With hundreds of books, mostly free, waiting to be read, I don’t put in much time if it doesn’t score well.

Barbara Morgenroth has written some of my favorite horse books, and this is still free today:
If Wishes Were Horses

Young Adult / Fantasy books by horse-savvy author. Professional writing and editing. Kindle format from Amazon. Talking horses in an alternate world, and a lost human from Earth. These are worth a read, if you like that sort of fiction.

This one is $2.99, and popped up as an “People also bought . . .”.

The author has a decent bio.

I personally love the Bluegrass series - it’s not great literature, but light and fun, snuggle-in-a-blanket-on-Sunday reading.

The Steve Cline mysteries by Kit Ehrman (“At Risk” mentioned above is one of them) are all good. I read them before I really knew very much and don’t remember anything standing out as horribly wrong. I’ve been collecting them on Kindle as I think of it; now to just go reread them

I REALLY liked the Lyndon Stacey horse mysteries as well. I don’t know if they have ever popped up as free, but they are definitely engaging - worth a trip to the library. I believe this is the order: Cut Throat, Blindfold, Deadfall, Outside Chance, Time to Pay, Murder in Mind.

Only lightly horse related, but free and I really liked it:

The Princess and the Horse

It’s not what you’d think from the title… not really a princess story at all.

I’m cracking up because I found this review on a formerly free book:

I started reading this book and there was no mention of horses in it for some time. I skimmed through it and there was no horses. Maybe I wrong but that’s what I saw. That’s probably why it’s free.

Ah, a reader after my own heart.
