Are you talking about George Morris? The last clinic I went to with him he lamented on and on about how people need to get their butts out of the saddle and stop sitting so much. He drove that point home by sticking tacks on riders saddles so they wouldn’t sit down.
He is the mouthpiece for the American forward riding system and I don’t think he’s scratching his head on why people are up and out of the saddles - it’s partly because he told them to go there.[/QUOTE]
Yep, if we’re talking about the same George, he likes exactly the opposite of what culture shock describes. In my clinic with him, he referred to anyone who sat in the saddle as an “arse-grabber” and encouraged everyone to lighten their seat, except for in a few select instances (riding a spooky fence was one of them).
He said that while sitting into a horse gives you a stronger ride, the American forward seat is a more compassionate, accurate way of riding that allows you to get the best jump out of your horse. Constantly sitting on your horse’s back in a full seated position will encourage flat jumping and is unnecessary wear and tear on the horse.
