Always have a backup plan for euthanasia

Blockquote Sorry but that is a lousy vet, find another profession . Its easy to shoot a horse andfirst saw it as as a kid . the post about not killing the deer with one shot was outrageous. Look it up. ,cross from ear to eye.

Did you miss the part about firearm laws here are very strict and the fact neither the vet or myself have access to one? Or are you always this intentionally rude about a vet who you have no idea about their professional life and experience?

Well aren’t you just something special. :woman_facepalming:t2::rage:
No need to be so callous & rude.

OP I’m sorry for everyone involved in that horrific experience. It sounds like very unusual circumstances- especially not being able to access a vein. Contingency and back up plans are always great, but sometimes manure happens to mess even those up.

It actually isn’t easy to shoot a horse and kill it with one shot. Experienced hunters often don’t know the correct placement. But carry on.

Not that I think I’d ever need it, I don’t even own a gun, but that’s one thing I have learned from the COTH forum: the correct location to shoot a horse. A friend had to do this once with a suffering horse when the vet was at least an hour away. She said it wasn’t as hard as she’d expected it to be.

OP, although your post is over a month ago now, I can understand that you’ll still be feeling traumatized by those events. I must say, after reading through all the comments of commiseration (and I wish to add mine), I’m still picking my jaw off the ground that some can chime in with such insensitivity.
Losing a beloved horse under such dreadful circumstances - and your heartbreak - has got me thinking and I’m thankful for your advice to consider a back-up plan. Hope you’re doing okay
