Ammy friendly stallion recommendations for TB mare

This is my first time considering breeding. I have a fabulous unregistered TB mare that has a lot of great qualities. Her parents were JC registered so I could go through the process to her her papers but not sure it is worth he money.

Mare is maiden at 9 years old. Great temperament, but can be tense. Ammy friendly and nice work ethic. She is a gorgeous mare and nobody ever thinks she is all TB. Average mover.

Could use improvement to her hind end and an uphill build. Looking for something well known for throwing easy going and ammy friendly babies that do well in the hunter ring.

Also curious about mare inspections. Do mares get denied very often?

Thanks in advance for entertaining my questions appreciate any recommendations.

If your mare is unregistered and you have no way to prove that she is who you say she is, you will not be eligible for warmblood approvals.

Like I said, she can be registered, as both her parents were. Just would need to do DNA tests.

I know some registries accept unregistered mares.

I’m not sure how to embed a pic, but here’s my mare: http://i43.tinypic.com/35bbgnn.jpg

Schonfeld is nice. Is dead now but they still have semen. Has had much success in the hunter ring. Ridden several of his babies and they are gorgeous movers successful in almost every discipline. Mae jean fighter stood him at Mae way farm in Lexington ky. I would also highly recommend looking at stallions at spy coast farm. They are very good about working with made owners that don’t have registered mares but are quality. Again likely ineligible for inspection but could still get a very nice foal for an excellent price. Plus they are great to deal with in general. Looking to cross my one mare full TB to either vision or diktatlor. Also like Quidam Junior. Owner puts a lot of time and interest into her crosses. Are you looking to sell or keep the foal ?

Love my Diktator x TB colt this year. She was approved main book with an 8 for type with the German Oldenburg Verband and he is her second Premium foal. www.facebook.com/ThreeWishesFarm

My most beloved mare is by Schonfeld! She is a doll! A wonderful mover and a great gal. She has a bit of a spook but as she matures she working out of it.

I’ve worked with several Schonfeld babies and they were all very sane and beautiful movers. One little filly hopped right in the ring at her first show and jumped around a 2’ course with the tempo and style of an old pro. The farm where I boarded for several years bred everything they had to him unless it was already a Schoenfeld decendant and if it was they bred to Hennessey. None of them were ever anxious or needed to be lunged prior to a show. 2 were out of the same TB mare. Both gorgeous movers, very sane. One was suuuuper laid back, quarterhorse like personality, he other was easy but had a sense of humor about him and a bit more fire.

Westporte - his babies are very easy and athletic

R-line anything, just about.

Rubignon babies are where I have the most knowledge, and they are supposedly just super easygoing and fabulous - which applies in the case I know of personally for sure.

I’ve ridden several scholfelds and a couple hennesy babies. Mae Jean does a great job pairing and puts out lovely foals for all disciplines. And well spy coast just puts out jumping fools. Their babies live to jump and the stallions have phenomenal minds. Two thumbs up for both and dealing with the farms !

Thank you so ![](uch for the replies! So excited to look at all the suggestions.

Not sure why the link wasn’t working for my mare’s photo, but trying again.

If you get a colt and geld him then registering is pretty much a mute point. I wouldn’t go thru the expense of that again after I did it once. In the event world TB cross or TB/WB is all you need.

Are you wanting a hunter? or an eventer, you’re posting here. note to add I forgot I was on the breeding forum!! I bred full sibs out of a TB mare and I got one of each.

We have recently been approached by people curious about our event gelding’s breeding. They look at him and see TB then their eye travels down and they go oops what else? He’s got long legs and bone and beautiful size 3 feet, he can go barefoot and run across riprock they are so sturdy. And then the look on their faces when I tell them that I purpose bred to a hunter stallion and ended up with an event horse. Knock Knock Knock on wood - he’s tendon tight and never had an injury. No cracks or chips in feet ever and he went completely barefoot until he was 5, now only shod fronts in season. He’s saved me at the least the price of the stud fee in farrier bills alone.

I wanted temperament, brains, solid conformation that stays sound, and good feet. I bred to a stallion that is proven prepotent, Balta Czar. He is known for throwing a strong back connection, solid conformation and outstanding temperament. He really ‘pulled the mare’s parts together’ she was a big framey girl.

Gelding resembles his uncles He’s very event/jumper type.

His full sister resembles her grand dam and she is very huntery.

BOTH are sound, barefoot, sensible! extremely smart and immensely kind. I would have repeated this cross infinitely if I could have afforded to keep going. I may seem to be over explaining because I really went outside of the box when I did this. I wanted ammy friendly, I’m no where near Olympic aspirations! We ended up with two horses that have the personalities that make them both heart horses. It was a late life dream come true for me. I thank my family for putting up with me

fire911_medic Looking for a foal for myself.

Another great thing about my Schonfeld mare is she has the prettiest head! I’m also thinking of breeding her and top 3 on my list are Balta Czar, Iron Man, and Poppey K.

Check out Amazing by Balou Du Rouet

We have been thrilled with both of our babies by Amazing out of our Tb mare. My foals both have power house engines that will easily serve them well over fences on day. In fact our filly was out to pasture at less than a year old jumping the CC logs in her field. Talk about heart attack, but when I found out my husband captured it on film I was shocked when I finally uploaded it to see how effortlessly she cleared it with style and grace. She even jumps her pasture mate, much to his dismay LOL She is just a little power house! The last pic is of her when she just turned 3 months old.
While not under saddle yet, my two have a wonderful and willing attitude to anything I ask of them, and there is no reason for me to believe if prepped correctly, saddle training wont have the same results. Here are a few pics of my “kids”.

pony grandma - Ahh thank you. Your reply is great. I’d love a hunter that can dabble in eventing. I don’t think I’ll ever be brave enough to give a real go, but I do enjoy it at the lower levels. I figure this foal would be my only real crack at showing as it would be started as my daughter will be starting school.

Balta Czar is on my short list! I had a friend breed her mare that is closely bred to mine to Balta Czar and got a really nice foal.

It’s nice to have some history that I can share with people now that my two full sibs have aged up and are under saddle and we can really see who they are. It sure helps first time breeders out. All the other posters likewise - I didn’t have these references to help guide me. I had a farrier who was the managing director for the BWP back then and she gave me good advice.

Here’s a video of my hunter mare doing her first event BN (first time taken out anywhere u/s!!) and my friend Sara riding - her first event also! She took a ribbing from her H/J world, she’s a die hard hunter rider.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93Noiz_Kptc I’d full screen it I was standing back a bit to video.

The mare naturally carries you to the fences and she makes them look effortless and pretty all the time. No one had to teach her how to jump. She’s out on a breeding lease right now then we’ll have her back u/s.

that’s a real ‘buddy ride’ as I like to call them! the horse’s expression thru that whole ride is priceless.

A clinic when he was 5, he’s 7 now.

Breeding is a real eye opener, I learned a lot! and I’d be real dangerous if I had any money

ROC USA - he crosses well with TB’s and always seems to throw a great engine and good temperament.
