Ammy friendly stallion suggestions (for event horse)

Hi all,

I am looking for stallion suggestions for a TB mare, with the hopes of producing an exceptionally ammy friendly event prospect. This would be my personal (hopefully) upper level horse one day, so personality is highest priority. Obviously a well out together, good moving individual is important as well. I have no desire to deal with the hot, super sensitive rides anymore, and really want a professional, ‘yes m’am’ type, yet one that can still think for itself when needed.

Would prefer full Thoroughbred, but am open to other breeds if the ammy friendly foals are there. I love A Fine Romance, but unsure of his availability for a bit later this year. Any other stallions out there known for producing stellar brains, trainability, bravery and good movement? I’m also not opposed to some color

Take a look at Concerto Grosso. His babies are just super easy to work with and he seems to consistently improve on the mares. We had two of his this year and I am thrilled with them!

Windfall Trakenher

Let me begin by saying I’m not an eventer, but have bred two hunter horses for myself, as an amateur rider. I totally agree with you in that if it’s to be your horse, then they have to have the right disposition. Nothing can be more rewarding than breeding/raising/breaking/riding your own horse, with some help from a professional and not the other way around (professionally maintained and you’re only allowed to ride once a week in a lesson). I’ve bred Hanoverian/TB, and in my search for Hanoverian hunter stallions, I came across and was very impressed with Windfall, who is a Trakenher, approved for breeding by the AHS. If eventing is your thing, then you should look at an event horse and he happens to be an is an upper level event horse with longevity. Website is www.newspringfarm.com. Best of luck in your search!

Thanks for the suggestions! The mare is a lovely, old school type in both pedigree and phenotype. She doesn’t need to be improved on much, as she already throws very correct foals with wonderful personalities. She has a 5 yr old daughter whom we bred for racing, that is 17hh and is currently making a splash in her limited eventing career. She is fancy, brave, and exceptionally quiet. The other foals out of her are no exception. They maybe could be a tad more free in the shoulder, but overall, are super nice.

All of her foals have been bred for racing up till now, with sport careers as a secondary thought. This foal be solely bred for sport.

I evented up through advanced when a pasture injury ended my horses career at age 12. He was full TB, and super fancy, brave, take care of you type, even though we came up the levels together. I got him when he was 2 months off the track. I’ve taken time off, and am currently pregnant, so won’t be in a hurry to start this foal.

Honestly, I’m not sure of their foals temperaments. I’ve not had any experience with either.

A warmblood cross will likely give you a freer shoulder than a pure TB. I found that in my crosses. Outside of Trakehners, I wouldn’t think (as a rule) the other warmbloods could give you the speed and stamina you would need for an upper level eventer. But, what do I know? I just jump 8 fences in a ring!!

Arty throws amazingly friendly and easy babies. Katie Ruppel bred one of her mares to him and just had a lovely chestnut colt

I’m biased in that I absolutely love Anissa’s program, and will probably be breeding my Emerald Acres filly to him at some point, but Tatendrang. Trakehner, but he breeds the day before going to events and the day after he gets back - and acts like there’s nothing going on at all, just well behaved good boy.

His oldest are just starting under saddle, but they have a lot of similarities including free shoulders, huge hips, good toplines, and a desire to jump.

thanks netg. :). Tate is only 7 this year and his oldest foal crop is just turning 3 this year. So we’re still a bit of an unknown. I have video of one of his kids under saddle (in ride # 6) he was super easy to start as was Tate and loves to work. Tate’s rider actually is the one that started the colt so he can speak as to similarities between dad and son. :).

Tate has a super temperament - many on this board can attest to this as several have seen him out at shows and clinics. He tends to pass it along to his kids. What netg said as to what he throws is true. His FB page has tons of photos of him and his kids. I call them Tater Tots for a reason. ;).

I also like Sea Accounts if you want pure TB in addition to some of the above recs.

consider Freedom Z - we have a 5 yr old out of a british TB Event mare and she has a puppy dog personality, yet has a number of upper level riders drooling over her ability, gaits and talent.

My Ironman baby (out of a TB mare) is possibly the EASIEST baby I have ever worked with, he passes on a fabulous temperament. He should be going under saddle in the next month or so and I cannot say enough good things about him, he’s athletic and sensitive but very quiet and personable. His work ethic is fantastic and he seems to have been born broke - and he’s a lovely mover, to top it off!

My mare is in foal to Concerto Grosso, I love this stallion. I consider him a best kept secret. His owner Rosemarie Merle-Smith purchased him… Oh two years ago? And has been doing some marketing of him, prior to that I hadn’t heard of him. I watched his video, and probably… 20 or so offspring videos? He is so consistent. Clean movers, nice walk, a trot with nice suspension, and beautiful canters. Not only is he the sire of two Intermediate Eventers, he has a lot of foals go for straight dressage, also H/J and Fox Hunters. A lot seem to go to Ammy owners as well.

He himself returned from years in the breeding shed to debut at Novice this past year. He made it look like a Hunter round. I cannot wait to see how great my foal is and Rosemarie was a dream to work with.

Otherwise, Mighty Magic is on my mare’s dance card, possibly for her '15 foal since she is getting a year off. I really like the look of him. Heard great things about Freedom Z. My friend owned Triple Twist, he has unfortunately passed but there is frozen. He had a fantastic temperament, and so do his babies. Melissa is an awesome person, I would do business with her any time. Pure TB I would say he’d be my top pick for an Ammy Eventer. She has a few offspring on site you could see as well.

Also… What about Bravo? I believe he has a great temperament, and he is competing at Advanced. His owner Chris Misita is very nice as well. She had another stallion who competed at Advanced, Warrick, but I don’t know much about him.
