Another New Horse - It's Bo!

I think he has the deepest whatever they’re called I’ve ever seen.

Wow! That’s actually marked improvement! If it has grown that much that quickly, there’s hope it may end up a “real” forelock yet.

Wait a sec. Aren’t the “eye holes” deeper in the current picture versus the older one?

uh oh you might be right!!!

The position of his head is different in the photos, so on the left you can see them more completely.

It’s just a trick of the angles and lighting, his eye pockets are in fact less deep than before - although they are still far deeper than any horse I can ever recall seeing. I’m sure they will fill in a bit more once he’s “fat enough”, but will probably always be one of his distinguishing features. I tried to take a picture of them on Day 1, using my finger as a yardstick, but I didn’t have a helper and he wouldn’t stand still for it. Now I wish I had! Here’s what they look like, just now:

I swear his ears have gotten farther apart, too. More of that inside-the-head fat. I need to recreate the picture I took in the beginning with my hand on his forehead.

Oh, and it rained enough last night to create a little mud. So of course Bo has covered himself head to toe in a good dusting of wet dirt, post haste. I actually took this picture just to show the mud, please note that this is his absolute BEST angle and he’s not nearly as “fat” as he appears  It would be a great day to break out the shedding blade, except for the 15mph wind we currently have. Tomorrow should be 80ish, so maybe a bath is in order.

The camera adds 100lb   But I thought the same thing when I went back and looked at it on my phone.

And I forgot one.

Bo is looking so good! His whole demeanour has changed and you can see the life in his eyes and the way he carries himself now. I’m in love

I like to have some wind when they’re shedding and I’m brushing. I just position their heads toward the wind, wear satin, and keep my mouth shut.

And don’t be in a hurry to fill those above eye indentations - I’ve always understood it to be a sign of Cushings when those are not depressed.

I’m a little behind on posts but I recently found human biotin that comes in very small 10 mg tablets. A bottle of 360 cost $14 and will last for 6 months feeding 2/day. That might not be sneaky enough for Bo, but in case you want to try: Bronson Biotin 10,000 MCG, 360 Vegetarian Tablets https://a.co/d/ccbkBkl. I’d offer to ship you a few to try but I’m not keen on sending small white pills through the mail.

All those left over Covid masks can help keep flyaway hair out of your mouth and nose, at least.

And now I have a reason to buy satin PJs!

I’m pretty sure the only thing I own made of satin is an evening gown  wouldn’t that be a sight. The wind is gone today, so we’ll get to work on losing the extra hair. I might just give him a lunge and then a bath.

I didn’t mean to imply that I expect the indentations to completely fill in, I certainly don’t - and I doubt they ever would, unless I somehow managed to get him to morbidly obese. But it would be nice if they weren’t quite so shocking!

My trainer hired a photographer for clients’ Christmas gift last year and one lady did that! She said she has pics with her horse in riding clothes, why not go for something different? Her pics were great!
