Another New Horse - It's Bo!

Wow for a horse that’s been malnourished and not ridden for a while, he looks pretty well balanced there.

You’ve got to be thrilled that your rescue project turned out to be such a nice big mover! It’s a little karmic thank you for all your great care (and big-money vet bills)!

[quote=“findeight, post:1006, topic:779224”]He
speaks western. Probably wonders where the other half of the saddle is. Likely not understanding why you keep clucking, kissing and bumping when he is giving you a lovely, balanced, smooth jog. He let you know he don’t know nuthin bout no trot and can’t figure out why you want to bounce up and down up there instead of just sit still. So he rather politely let you know.

It’s an adjustment for them.

Yep. He’s wonderin about the bit, the reins, the half saddle with the one “cinch” … he’s joining the conversation.

I’m glad you said y’all did some more trot and THEN called it a day, @Heinz_57, 'cause once y’all went out of frame I’d have worried how that ride ended! Lovely, lovely ride!

Bo was the most goodest boy today. We did a little trotty-trot and a canter on our long walk and he gave me no bum-hops, did not slam on the brakes, and I didn’t have to leg-bump him nearly as much.

Funny anecdote:

Sunday, when I had Bo tacked up and was about to get on, I asked DH (who was outside, cleaning out the car) to ‘keep an eye out in case I die, since I haven’t been on this horse before’. Literally, those were the words I used. I was holding Bo and standing right in front of him at the time, making eye contact, and he acknowledged.

Monday mid afternoon, he’s texting me asking how my day is going, and I mention I’d ridden both horses in the morning. He says ‘oh, was that the first ride on Bo?’ :woman_facepalming: :joy: I suppose I over-estimated his ability to tell Bo and Elmo apart and actually listen to the words I used.

Both horses are “orange”, nevermind the completely different markings, hairstyles, builds, and a serious height difference.

Yep. Men can be frustrating at times. They’re just not great at multi-tasking. If their attention is elsewhere when you tell them something, there’s a good chance that the message won’t be received, at least not in its intended form. In my experience, it gets worse with age.

That just means you can bring in as many more chestnut horses as you want without him realizing!:rofl::rofl:

Wait, what happened to not being able to get more than three feet away even long enough to take a photo because Velcro Horse had to be THISCLOSE?! LOL! Mr Independent is certainly becoming more secure, isn’t he? Good job @Heinz_57 ! :raised_hands:

Rules only apply when haltered and/or bridled :joy: or if he’s got an itch.

No work for ponies yesterday/today due to the thunderstorms and wind. Days like these I really wish I had solid walls and not just covered stalls; they are nice in the heat with a breeze keeping everything moving, but that same breeze is killer when it’s not warm.

AHHHH! Horse rules! I should have known. :face_with_raised_eyebrow::roll_eyes::rofl::grin::sunglasses:

What kind of bridle is Bo wearing? Never seen one like that. Is the strap tightly buckled under the chin ?

Looks like a Miklem to me.

It is a Micklem, yes, and none of the straps are tight. He can definitely open his mouth if he wants to!

Boupdate: 17 weeks (I think? sounds right)

He’s been wearing a blanket for a couple days, because we’ve lost sight of the sun temporarily and it’s been high 30’s at night/50ish during the day. The sun should be back tomorrow, and then he can stay naked again. He’s almost halfway shed out and the blanket smooths down the hair, so we’re starting to see what his shape looks like underneath all the fluff:

And artsy Bo. Giving me the ‘ugh, lady… let me eat in peace’ look.

Everybody got the weekend off, and my mom comes to visit tomorrow so I’m not sure what the “work week” looks like for ponies. I don’t think anyone will complain with a few more days off!

With the latest pictures you can really see how far he has come, but that he still needs a few more pounds on ribs and back. The floof was hiding the still visible ribs.
