Another New Horse - It's Bo!

That one looks like the RBF runway model stare & walk.

Bo and his fans feel you deserve a St. Eligius medal.

St. Eligius of Noyon is the Catholic Patron Saint of Horses.

I’m not looking at that handsome boy and thinking ‘bareback’.

Esp not that view looking up those withers!

Maybe on top of six blankets I might. But maybe I’d need seven.

Is that a bony lesion on his nose or just a trick of floof.

He is so handsome! You have done an amazing job, bravo!

Yeah, I have no particular aspirations to ditch the saddle with him. :joy: Elmo has a nice ‘couch’ back for the days I want to ride bareback.

It is a bump, and it’s right at the top of the ‘triangle’ where the nasal bone splits off from the upper jaw. It hasn’t been that prominent before, so not sure what’s going on unless he bumped it on something recently.

Those horizontal scars on his nose might be related… from what I have seen of horse keeping around here, I’d bet it is most likely from a halter being left on indefinitely. People leave them on 24/7 like a collar on a dog.

could it be rising remodeling from the tooth pathology? might need a radiograph

Having started in the SW states, betting the horizontal scars are barbed wire fence related or some kind of DIY thin wire tie down gadget sometimes used by calf ropers and steer wrestlers to keep the horses head down and out of roper or wrestlers way. Seen mostly with those competing on the backyard level or actual working Ranch situations where they ride what they got and don’t have time for finesse.

Far as the big bump? No idea, may or may not be related but, to me, looks like old, external trauma, not dental related or part of the wire scars. Have seen bone remodeling right on the bridge of the nose that’s a probable souvenir from assorted “training aids” too often…and not just on Western horses in the SW. but that bump is not in the right place to be caused by anything around the nose. IMO.

It’s been days since we’ve had an update on our Bo!
Days!

(please update on any little old thing when you can, thanks!)

Today we tested out a new feeding method, one that will allow him to be turned out with Elmo all day and also eliminate the grain tub flipping.

Otherwise, not much has happened this week, with my mom visiting. She just left this morning, so I will be back to having time for riding and working ponies. His hair is growing in properly and he no longer looks half bald!

Oh, and the manufacturer paid approximately 27% of his hospital bill, so I guess I should be thankful for that? It’s certainly better than nothing, although I didn’t expect them to be quite that stingy.

He looks great. I never would have thought of a feed bag.

Is that your dog? I know it’s just a snapshot, but the dog looks as if he’s seeing the horse as prey.

It looks to me like the dog is investigating something interesting on the ground.

It’s just a snapshot, so who can tell? I just wondered if the dog was horse friendly. His posture worries me, especially if he chases or is at all aggressive towards horses.

Dog attacks on horses are horrific, and there are too many videos that show it.

I’m sure @Heinz_57 will notice, and take care of her beloved horses.

That kind of sucks! Better than nothing, but Fort Dodge paid my entire vet bill (including multiple follow up vet visits) although Rosie was able to be treated at home.

Yes, he’s ours. He has one eye and was searching for remnants of the morning’s hoof trim in the grass right there.

He’s been properly trained to stay out and away from the fences, and to leave the horses alone if I have one out.

Oh, that’s good to know.

My dogs were avid hoof trim enthusiasts as well.
