Aren’t they all?
My last trainer had 3 dobermans… the only thing they would seriously fight over was the hoof trimmings.
Mondayyyyy… 18th week?
The sun came out, so I brushed and brushed. Still letting the coat go in patches. Then we tried to do some low key glamour shots with the sunny blue sky and all the greenery. Bo did not wish to cooperate.
Bo supposed to be posing for a nice conformation shot in the freshly mowed grass.
Then we tried Bo supposed to be posing for a nice conformation shot among the pretty wild flowers.
Let’s try again. Stop facing me!
Fine, I will loop the rope over the fence over here since that is the only way you stand. Elmo assisting by trying to set him free. He’s not really tied, the rope is just doubled and looped over the rail.
Then I got a wild hair and threw a saddle pad and bareback pad on him, and grabbed a bridle with a different bit than the one we’ve been using. Behold, your very first ‘between the ears’ from the back of Bo.
We just moseyed around at the walk for maybe 5 minutes. His back is filling in a bit more every week, although he’d probably be reasonably comfortable to sit on with a thicker western pad under the bareback pad right now.
Cowboying around, how fun is that!
Bo is looking like a horse, not a skeleton any more.
Best Monday update ever! And not a bad view!
I actually love this photo, even if it isn’t what was planned. I’d call it “Peace and Contentment”
Freshly-mowed grass & you expected his nose would stay out of it?
Wow! He’s shedding out (in the shiny places) to that gawjuss coppery chestnut
@Heinz_57 you have officially won the Rescued Lottery!
I confess to suffering from frequent laziness and bouts of letting my ‘inner child’ run free. My saddles are stored in the house (no tack room). To ride in one requires pre-planning - must decide I am going to ride today, don the breeches, find the ‘right socks’ and put on my tall boots (wouldn’t ride in my good saddle in jeans!), schlep the armfuls of tack out to the horses, tack up. It’s a commitment . I keep the bareback pad and that one bridle out in the hay shed… convenient for all those days when I’m already out there and just feel like hopping on.
Not really With my other horses who are accustomed to posing for photo shoots, I can usually just stand back holding the very end of the rope and get a good shot. If I didn’t have two bum shoulders right now, I’d be out there building more pastures! I’ve still got 5 or 6 acres to go.
@Heinz_57 have been following your journey with Bo since the beginning and loving the updates. He looks wonderful. Bo won the human lottery when he met you. I loved the canter video and as a 5’ tall shorty I am JEALOUS of your long lovely leg. Keep on keepin on! Job well done.
Hehe, I can totally relate to not wanting to spend extra effort to tack up. I go one step further and have a pair of reins with scissor snaps on the ends, and just attach them to the halter.
Bo looks fantastic. How wonderful that you two found each other
I am not an own-horn-tooter, but as I drove by a house (ok, a trailer) in my neighborhood yesterday and saw a new pony just tied to a fence on the side of the open yard/driveway, I thought of Bo and where he could have gone if I hadn’t picked him up. Chances are good it wouldn’t have been a positive experience. That’s not even the first pony I’ve seen living tied to a fence.
Bo would probably be a gentleman in a halter. I have rope halters for my others, with 12’ leads… I have been known to ride Elmo in his on occasions when he’s not feeling bullish. Sometimes I’m too lazy to even tie the tail end back around so I can have two reins. And then I do things like this:

He couldn’t have cared less. Love that horse
I love these Bo updates, the make my Mondays a little bit brighter
Just for the sake of clarity, that umbrella video is Elmo He’s excellent with goofy stuff like that but heaven help you if a deer pops out of the trees.
Although I doubt Bo would be terribly offended by the pop up umbrella - I haven’t found anything yet that even makes him looky. Perhaps I will show it to him tomorrow (on the ground, safety first!).
This is the photo of my late TB that my trainer had printed on canvas and framed for me when we lost him. One of my favorite pics of him and probably the happiest he ever was. So now you know why I really like the Bo pic.
So pretty! I can see the similarities. It looks like one of those horsey post cards.
I love the ‘tied’ to the fence one!! Such a wonderful Monday update!!
Little Tuesday surprise - they are a bit hard to see, being clear and all, but Bo is sporting his freshly glued Versa Octo shoes today. I’m hoping to encourage sole growth and better heel function over a few cycles, plus the ground is getting HARD. No sore footies here. Shoes for the hinds are still on the table, but I want to see how he does with the fronts alone for the first go.
is it my imagination or does he have some good, stout legs!
He really is a solid boy
Cinderella shoes on Hercules legs!
