Another New Horse - It's Bo!

What a hunk! (I need your advice on how to get my horse, who apparently has the metabolism of a supermodel, to look like that!)

Oh… and Fern… swoon.

I almost put in the picture of his buffet, but without adding a whole bunch of text it seemed like the context would be lost. LOL

His eye tells me that he content.

Agreed!
The look in his eye from Day 1 {so sad} until now - where I detect a hint of 'tude < the kind that says I Belong.
I have 2 words for you @Heinz_57 :
AWE SOME! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

P.S.
I have brass name plates for my 3.
Mounted on their stalls.
Just like they lived at a “real” barn.
Line 1 - show name (though they hardly ever show , for pony = never:unamused:)
Line 2 - barn name
Line 3 - 2 Dogs Farm

Hey, if he wants to get a little….plump…let him. After what he’s been through that we know of and who knows what before. Like the probable wire tie down scars on his nose, belly full of rocks and vaccine reaction, he’s earned the right. Besides, the old term “Bulldog QH” type didn’t come out of nowhere.

Who knew when he stepped of that trailer…

The picture of him on day 1 looking at you straight on, there was such hope in his face that you were going to take care of him and not leave him behind. Made me tear up.

Uh, well… nearly 20lb/day of Purina Senior is Bo’s secret. :joy: I still feed him 4x a day. I did recently drop the Renew Gold to see if he will hold this weight without it. Otherwise, I basically just throw food at him every few hours :woman_shrugging: and the B-12 pellets keep his appetite alive. I’m hopeful that someday I will be able to back him down to a more ‘maintenance’ level on the PS, and maybe drop down to 3 feedings, but we’ll see. I don’t mind the cost but it’s sometimes inconvenient that I need to be home every 4 hours to feed him, 7 days a week.

A little off topic @Heinz_57 but how are the EasyCare Octos holding up?

Funny you mention that! I was just working out a new plan for Bo.

I actually ended up taking them off early, I think they were on for 2 weeks ish? I had a couple tabs on the first shoe start to fail due to the initial learning curve (I was a bit slow with the gluing and wrapping), second shoe I did was fine. The first shoe was still pretty secure, but we had a big storm front coming through and I didn’t want to end up searching for it in the mud if it came loose or ending up with debris wedged under it. I didn’t have time to clean and reset that week, so they are still waiting for me to put them back on. Hopefully this week.

The shoes themselves seem very durable, and the design is logical but also easy to modify if needed. Overall I like them, once I get the application process mastered I think they will be very useful.

I will say, though, that the treads quickly pack with moist dirt - but that’s a problem with any treaded shoe, just one that I find annoying.

Awww, man, that video… it’s suddenly sniffgotten very dusty sniff where I’m sitting. I seem to have a bit of chaff in both my eyes…

@Heinz_57, I’m pretty sure St. Peter or the Paradise of your choice has a VIP room reserved for you in the hereafter. Thanks for bringing all of us along on Bo’s journey.

Ok, this will sound weird, but many moons ago an old-timer suggested that I use bacon grease to get hair to grow in a similar situation, and it worked!

Gosh, is it Monday already?

Everyone’s feeling a little  around here today. Bo was not keen on posing for photos. He’s been acting a little off lately, nothing particularly “wrong”, he’s just not as hungry hippo as usual. He’s been more interested in alfalfa (which he only gets as a novelty) than anything else, although he does still clean up his grain eventually. He might be mad that I put a blanket on him yesterday, or that the weather has been crappy and we haven’t gone for a walk.

He was a little mad that I shoo’ed him to stand over there so I could get a picture.

Again, the face of judgment for shoo’ing him.

Fine, I’ll just go over here so you can see my big round booty.

Offering moral support to our newest friend, Cooper.

I swear I was not shopping for another horse. What do I need with four horses? Back in October, I found Cooper on the road, running amok with my neighbor’s rogue miniatures. I didn’t know where he lived, so I took him home for safe keeping until I could find his owners. He ended up staying most of the day but eventually his person came for him. Well, the next day he and the ponies were standing at my gate - so I let him in (not the evil ponies, who just live across the street) and contacted his owner again. This time, when she came to get him I told her if she ever decided to sell him to let me know.

And, here we are. :woman_shrugging: But don’t worry, Bo is still my special boy. I make time for all of them.

Oh, Bo. It’s so cute when they wear their emotions on their sleeves. Duke gets the same hurt look if you don’t let him crawl up on you and give scratches, kisses or treats.

And hello Cooper.

Cooper, you broke the chestnut streak! Welcome to the fold, buddy. Bo, we still wuv you!

Cooper knows where the good vittles are. Cooper wouldn’t happen to be a standardbred would he?

Cooper is …yard horse? :joy: I don’t have any info about his breeding yet. I just sent a text to the gal because I also need to check on if/when the last time he was dewormed and vaccinated might be. In all likelihood he’s probably just another appendix of some variety…

The weather is supposed to hold out until tomorrow night, so I promised Bo we’d go check the fences tomorrow :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: I need to ride Elmo too.

Eh, Bo may no longer feel he is going to starve to death or the food will run out. Got a little grass to nibble on too. He looks so much more content and relaxed here when compared to last fall.

Frankly, he seems tired. Or mad. He could be a little worried that Cooper is going to steal his thunder, or his friends. He’s usually very enthusiastic about meal times, but lately he’s been giving me that look that says he wants something else, and it’s up to me to figure out what it is. He seems satisfied with the alfalfa for now, but I’d been backing off on that lately because it seems to give him a hint of asthma. I’ve got a round of alfalfa cubes soaking now that I will try offering (again), maybe that will please him.

Behavior changes with him just make me nervous!

I won’t derail Bo’s thread with too much Cooper, but for the curious onlookers, here’s the rest of him:
