None of the tractor supply stores that I shop at (two different locations) have anything I would call a self service computer.
So interesting that some stores have something like this.

@trubandloki That’s a shame! Ours is usually in the middle of the store, there is a service desk and a computer set up for customer use. I wonder if you could ask an associate to place an order for you?
There is a counter in the middle of the store and that is the service desk. There is a computer there that is very clearly for employee use, they use it all the time. That is where they go when you ask about stock questions or pricing on things.
There is no other computer on that desk for customer use.
I’m glad this works at your location, but it is not offered where I am. They carried a Purina feed that worked terrific for my mare. Then they stopped carrying it locally and would not put it back in rotation. I tried shipping it to the store, or to my house, and the freight cost was going to be more than the cost of the feed itself - something like $257 total for four bags plus shipping. I’ve talked to them in person and talked by email to corporate, saying if they’d put it back in stock, I’ll buy the damn things. No dice.
I haven’t tried the in-store thing, but on some feeds I have been able to do this from the website at home. I was able to order 3 bags of Alfahay to try out, with free shipping at one point (was not free the first time I looked, but a month or two later it had switched to free for 3 bags or less). Not everything is eligible, though, and while I can order the ProElite, it wants to charge me $10 shipping for the first bag, plus an extra $5 after that up to 3 bags. Four bags = $150 shipping. Thankfully, there are half a dozen TSCs within an hour or so that have it so if I get desperate for more, I can go farther.
I returned to TSC and bought the 3 remaining bags they had. We will see 1) how long it takes for them to re-stock it, and 2) how Bo feels about it in a week or so. If he’s still head over heels for it, I’ll work out a plan for sourcing. @Janet, the nearest Southern States is about 90 minutes away, in Houston. Not impossible if I was buying bulk, but I don’t have storage lined up for that.
@jvanrens one would think, but I just got back from the grocery store and the beer case was very disappointing! Not much besides the “clear” beers, Budweiser/Coors/etc. Definitely nothing even close to a stout or dark-ish beer. The liquor store or the Smileys (gas station) out here might have better selection, I’ll have to ask DH. I just started a different horse (Cooper) on Horsetech Sweatwerks yesterday - he seems to have developed anhidrosis with this blasted heat dome, so he could probably use a beer too
I keep on forgetting everyone doesn’t have a wide selection of beers like we do here in Ontario. The selection can be mind-boggling at the range!
Good luck with both your boys, hope Cooper starts sweating soon.
I came to TX from the PNW, where breweries abound - so I get it! Here it really just depends on the store, some have a wide selection and some don’t. I thought I’d have better luck at the grocery store, but I’m pretty sure the gas station in my town has a bigger beer cooler!
I put fly sheets back on today. Bo did his shark attack impression but stood unhaltered in the paddock nonetheless.
what is considered whole beer. Not a beer gal , in a way, but do love a good stout
Proelite does a rewards program be sure to take advantage of it!
https://proelitehorsefeed.com/rewards-program/ buy 12 bags get a coupon for a free bag!
That page says the program ends 5/31/23, did they extend it?
I just messaged my rep. She said it’s still going on.
Oh good! I’ve bought 4 bags within the last week so well on my way to a freebie.
I just fed dinner and Bo is eating his grain with watered down Gatorade in it. I buy the powder (for human use), so I just added a scoop and some water.
All four of them slurped it up like it was nothing new I know there is a good amount of sugar in it so I won’t be making it a regular routine, but it should be fine for a few days until I get more no-sugar electrolytes in. A friend of mine makes her horse a small bucket of orange gatorade after every ride and he slurps it right up.
Well, it’s Monday again.
Yesterday I put the big boys out in the pasture - they’ve been stuck in paddocks for a week while I mowed, and while I’ve been supervising Cooper’s sweating issue. Bo was more enthusiastic on the way out to the field than I have ever seen him; there might have even been a few jog steps, and all three of them did quite a bit of yeehaw’ing around once turned out.
Bo is still stressing me out on the eating front. Sometimes he eats. Sometimes he doesn’t. Sometimes he eats a little and leaves the rest to spoil. Sometimes he throws it on the ground and demands something else. I’ve had to start feeding him in a tub out in the paddock again because he was making SUCH a mess throwing food around, which was attracting a multitude of flies (even with me cleaning it up).
He still looks fine, not quite as rounded out as I’d like him but well within the acceptable condition range. I don’t know how, because he’s not eating nearly enough. Also, I offered him a Shiner Bock with his grain this morning and he was SO OFFENDED. I think he may be more of a light beer sort of guy.
I tried to take pics that would show what I’m seeing, but he looks like a fat red sausage in these, on my screen:
Big ugly fly sheet shoulder rub still an issue…
I have houseguests, a holiday and my kid’s birthday this week, but next week I am going to put him back on a lunging schedule. Maybe a little light exercise and a ‘job’ will boost his appetite. I am also going to re-order the B12 supp that worked for him before - when we ran out a few months ago, I decided to see how he did without it and things were fine until all this started up. It’s not terribly expensive so won’t hurt to try it again.
Honestly, he still looks really healthy, and if he’s not dropping a lot of weight regularly, I don’t think I’d worry too much about it until the heat lets up. Heat does strange things to animals and people, and he may just be trying to regulate his temperature in some way by lessening his caloric intake. Our barn cat does the same thing every summer, and I’ve noticed I don’t have much of an appetite when it’s hot either. Except for chocolate.
I don’t if this would work in your situation, but I’ve started using these buckets for my feed flingers. I much prefer a ground tub, but the two horses I’m feeding now won’t allow that. So they get these instead: Little Giant Better Bucket
I get the big ones and hang them in the corners with a regular bucket strap. They can still move them around, but have to work really hard to get any feed out.
I use those too.
For what it is worth, I think given the current temps, his age, his teeth, his pickiness, he looks great. You have and do so much for Bo.
Could he use a touch more fat, sure; can you force feed him; not really.
Let’s reflect on what you and Bo have achieved. He looks amazing, he’s sound, he has a fun personality and is a all round good boy.
Think about how to be proactive for next summer. Hopefully when the weather turns he will want to eat. (all I want is watermelon currently). its hot.
I will be back later (hopefully today…) to update more, but for now I’m just going to leave this here:

Family came to visit last week and it was my kid’s birthday, so I was preoccupied with that and didn’t get much COTHing in. Visitors left yesterday so now I am freeeeeeee but still recovering. I did, however, get the misting system set up in all the stalls this morning. It’s Bo approved.
He looks happy and I love the tune to go with it! Glad you survived the visitors. I’m so happy my house is too small to have company.
