For those with shares in Star Six Nine, he certainly turned in a nice 3f work at Silver Springs. Wonder when he’ll ship to the track?
From his offering it said he wasn’t projected to be an early type and would be aimed for a later 2YO campaign so my guess is it still could be weeks before he’s ready to ship to a track. At this point, he’d probably ship to Turfway as horses are being cleared out of Keeneland ahead of the September sales.
August is getting exciting (for me, at least)!
A Mo Reay (Uncle Mo - Margaret Reay, by Pioneer oftheNile) is expected to be entered into a maiden at Saratoga for Todd Pletcher on August 15th.
Frosted Oats (Frosted - More Oats Please, by Smart Strike) is entered for her second start in a turf maiden at Saratoga for Bill Mott on August 8th.
Got Stormy (needs no introduction) is anticipated to start in the Fourstardave H (G1) at Saratoga on August 14th.
Infinite Empire (Empire Maker - Tapitry, by Tapit) is expected to be entered in a maiden at Del Mar for Richard Mandella on August 21st.
Sacred Beauty (Classic Empire - Consecrate, by Pulpit) is expected to be entered in a maiden claiming (!!) at Del Mar for Dan Blacker on August 14th.
Your’s and mine are strikingly similar
Frosted Oats I have individual shares of in addition to the Future Stars Stable.
Got Stormy, hope the turf is firm for her.
I also don’t have confirmation but Social Dilemma is being aimed at a Kentucky Downs race (don’t know details). I’d be tickled pink if she did well
Yay Kentucky Downs! I miss that little track, surprisingly.
(Says the person who is now like “Do I want to drive to Saratoga next weekend? Meh.”)
I like that it is only turf (love watching the racing from across the pond in the mornings on TVG) and only five days but they keep ramping up purse monies and the quality of the horses that show up.
Don’t know what race Social Dilemma is being targeted for but she’s a turf girl
One of my other acquisitions is from across the pond… arrived here, went into training (as he was racing across the pond) and has now spent a few months recovering from deep bone bruising in both ankles. But he’s back to galloping at Margaux Farm. Don’t have a date yet when he’ll be back at a race track.
@Where_sMyWhite You should have seen the disrepair the place used to be in. My first time there was 2007. This was one of the photos I took on my old digital camera. The rest were probably downloaded onto some long gone computer, but I posted this one to social media so I still have it handy:
Apparently they had their biggest turnout in a very long time that meeting. The county had just given them special permission to serve liquor by the drink, which was illegal in the county.
I was like “what have I just walked in to?”
Their other claim to fame is they had bingo, which is still illegal in neighboring TN. So the clubhouse was basically just a big bingo hall in 2007.
Shortly after the ownership changed and they sunk a lot of money into turning the place into something very cool. They have built up their casino into a destination. Their purses got a big boost and the race meeting improved a ton.
The number of dates they get still varies, with I think the most being 18 days one year. It is usually kept low by the big tracks in the state who don’t appreciate the competition. Plus it’s a ship in meeting with no stabling on site, and a hefty drive from anywhere.
Sounds like ideal for a short, boutique type meet. I like the turf course isn’t the flat, level oval (miss that Santa Anita doesn’t use their hillside course very much any more). One of the things I like about the turf across the pond… very few turf courses that are plain, flat, oval.
Has it sure changed since your photo! I am not sure KY track Social Dilemma is stabled at now (Turfway maybe?) but she had a nice work this morning. Still a few weeks away I suspect to know what race she’s being targeted for.
They built it in the 90s to be a “European course” with right handed racing. The clubhouse sits at what is traditionally the top of the stretch in America, because that was the original finish line! I don’t know how long right handed racing lasted there, but my understanding is it didn’t last long. They also did steeplechases on and off through the 90s and early 00s.
Even today, at the finish line you still only have temporary seating and that ugly cinderblock tower. But the tower has been painted a flattering Keeneland green and instead of metal bleachers and red white and blue awnings from Walmart they get classier tents and chairs and done some landscaping.
It has become a fun day trip destination for a lot of people. Gamblers like it because it has low takeout and usually great odds given the ship in nature of the meet. But the problem is, it’s the the middle of nowhere. They have done a decent job attracting the Nashville crowd, but Nashville isn’t really a city into gambling or racing. It’s hours to other sizeable cities.
I have a lot more than that, but those are the ones currently in action. I have:

Whoot!! Frosted Oats in her second start (Race 2 @ Saratoga, MSW, 1 1/16th on turf), first two turns, first turf, first with small cup blinkers finished a very nice third beaten by odds-on coupled Chad Brown entry.
My Racehorse picks up Hip #69 at Saratoga, a bay colt by Into Mischief - Count To Eleven for $300k.
You missed # 58 - Empire Maker x Blue Jeans for $240k
Hip #90 MRH picked up the Justify - Essential Rose filly for $625,000
I really liked her; happy MRH got her!
Hip | Name | Sire | Dam | Sale Price | Ownership | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
58 | Blue Jeans 20 | Empire Maker | Blue Jeans | G or R C | $240,000 | My Racehorse |
69 | Count to Eleven 20 | Into Mischief | Count to Eleven | B C | $300,000 | My Racehorse, Spendthrift Farm, Brad Cox Colts Group |
90 | Essential Rose 20 | Justify | Essential Rose | B F | $625,000 | My Racehorse |
137 | Lucy N Ethel 20 | Quality Road | Lucy N Ethel | Dk B or B F | $600,000 | My Racehorse & Spendthrift Farm |
178 | RicketyRacketyRuss 20 | Into Mischief | RicketyRacketyRuss | B F | $450,000 | My Racehorse |
I should add that the next ‘step’ is that MRH will need to get the offerings planned, written up (easy) and submitted to SEC (fairly easy as the current administration has now seen many offerings from MRH) then, when timing fits MRH’s needs, they’ll be offered… maybe one at a time, maybe a few at a time, maybe also a ‘bundle’… we all get to wait and see.
Plus the September sales - I’ll be watching to see who MRH picks up there!
I didn’t even mention the September sales (both Fasig-Tipton and Keeneland, MRH bought at both last year). Then it will be a lather, rinse, repeat.
Definitely some nice horses went through the ring in the last two days. The Into Mischief-Paola Queen colt was lovely and nice for Spendthrift (who stands Into Mischief). Highest price of the sale and highest price for any Into Mischief.
Two horses racing today!
