Any APHA, AQHA, or ApHC breeders on COTH?

As we all know, COTH is about as good as it gets in the horse community for an online message board. With QHs, Paints, and even the occasional Appy drifting into more mainstream hunter/jumper open shows, are there any COTHers out there incorporating these horses into their breeding programs?

I have some…

We own the APHA stallion Windell, he is retired now, but I have some of his daughters that we are breeding for sport. Predominantly jumper bred that do dressage is what we are breeding for.

Paint jumper is too modest. Her stud Windell is a great looking boy with a good bascule. I know someone who bred a very old tb mare with bad conformation to him (I think paint jumper said she bought the breeding at an auction) and the foal was/is lovely. He (the foal) is a big boy now and off to college with his owner who bought him from the mare’s owner.

Paint jumper, I hope they sent you a picture of him several years ago when I told them to do so.

I have a few Paint horses I bred showing locally, and a couple of youngsters growing up. I have a lovely broodmare and enjoy selecting stallions to complement her.

Her 2011 filly is by Scotcha Imperial and is a big beautiful girl.

This is the stallion prospect I bred who is going to the RSPI inspection in OK on 7th September. He is APHA registered and by Guaranteed Gold. His owners just sent me this video clip of him freejumping (2nd time through the chute).

I’m not a breeder, but I have an ApHC/ApHCC mare who I have two foals out of. She’s heavily Plaudit bred, and was my primary riding/show horse for a number of years. Fox hunting, hunters, dressage, hacking, small beginner lessons, and was (is!) a beautiful girl to boot.

Her 2009 filly (sired by Fappiano bred JC stallion) is triple reg. with the ApHC/ApHCC/ApSHA:

Her 2011 filly was sired by a Hanoverian (Royal Senna, Rubinstein I, Wenzel I). She’ll be reg with the ApSHA:

Maybe someday when I’m a bit more established in my career and have my student loans paid off, I’ll venture into breeding on a more serious scale.

Thanks Cloudy…

We love him. To be honest, I am not sure if they sent me a picture or not, I’m thinking they did not. I would love to see him if you ever see them again. I will be breeding a few of his daughters next year to WB stallions. I have Mezcalero semen but I have not decided just yet who I will use.

As the signature line suggests, we have an AQHA son of Rugged Lark who has sired hunt seat horses who’ve earned enough points to compete at the AQHA worlds, as well as hunters & dressage horses who’ve done well at USDF and USEF shows. In addition, a prior owner wisely enrolled Canadian Kid with the AQHA and the APHA.

We are not focused on the breed shows, but on the individual. Some will be competitive in both the breed shows & non-breed shows. Conformation/soundness/temperament/athleticism are the goal.

A member here, a Paint and QH breeder but not in the warmblood world.

APPALOOSAS in SPORT!!!

When I returned to the world of horses 8 years ago, I wanted to pick up where I left off oh so many moons ago…

So, I wanted to return to dressage (and I am too darned old to ever jump again, haha!)…

Since I learned to jump on a barely 15 HH, rat tailed, roaned out appy mare in the 1970s… I was VERY interested in looking for specimens of the appaloosa breed who could perform in the sporthorse disciplines…

O.K., now fast forward these past 8 years… I have an active, but small, breeding program with the goal to produce an FEI capable (and I mean with competitive scores) appaloosa sport horse in the next ten years… I also want to produce amateur friendly and AFFORDABLE, but competitive horses for the dressage and eventing world, and possibly the hunter/jumpers…

I have almost 30 horses in my herd  (not all appies, as I do also tend to pick up horses in need to rehome them or use them for the young women who work at our barn and want to ride for fun…)

And, I have 3 appaloosa stallions:

Waps Limited Edition, aka Luke

http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/waps+limited+edition

He’s not a big mover, but I believe he will be an solid prelim eventer… just being started under saddle now… time will tell!

I also have a 2 yo son of AF Pisko Hunka (http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/af+pisko+hunka), who I have not yet registered (he’s out of a foundation appy mare)… and he may not be a stallion candidate ;), but because his sire did well in dressage thru 3rd level, I would like to see what this colt looks like under saddle next year, before he donates his testicles…

Finally, I have a 6 yo son of Chocklate Confetti (http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/chocklate+confetti), who I acquired earlier this year… he is also out of a foundation appy mare, and is just now being started under saddle (he sat out in a field for the past 5 years of his life hanging out with a couple of geldings…) I really like his movement for dressage, and though, unlike his sire, he is not tall (barely 16 HH), I am hoping that he can contribute to the appy sporthorse gene pool in a meanigful way…

I also currently have an appy mare, Waps Blizzard, aka Bliss (http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/waps+blizzard) who is expecting a 2012 foal sired by Stravinsky, aka Trachit, a TB stallion who performed at FEI dressage in Europe… cannot wait to see that baby! Fingers crossed!

We have used a Skipper W AQHA mare for past breedings to Trakehner stallions, but she had pretty much returned to her original duty of “family horse”

And she just had a 2011 filly with TONS of chrome by APHA stallion MJ Boston Jammer that will be a family horse, also.

APHA Breeder using QH/TB bloodlines. Our stallion is homozygous, 16.1, QH breeding on top, TB breeding on bottom.

I get so frustrated with the movement in the breed shows, I am looking at ‘the other side’ …but find myself being more of a lurker since I know nothing about it.

I have a friend that shows her Arabian in Dressage … and another friend who is just starting to show her Paint mare. I have a TB mare and an Appendix QH mare in our breeding program … so I am hoping we can drift this direction

Paint breeder here.

I recently exported a Partbred Trakehner filly out of my APHA mare to Germany.

My newest filly is APHA registered. She is truly an all-around prospect but I think she’d be darn cute in the dressage ring someday…

appy and arab breeder. - sport.

Mainly endurance lines, however I have several out and about who are showing as well. Mainly h/j , plus a couple we’ve kept ourselves for eventing.

I purchased a leopard Appy from Confetti Farms and I know the owner, Mellanie Burkhart, visits these forums from time to time. Her stallion Butterwap Confetti is a stunning fewspot who produces some amazing sporthorses.

I love my girl, well over 16hh with movement to spare.

Claim to Fame and Counterclaim are both APtHA registered stallions…Thier prodogey compete in the A Hunter Circuits, Foxhunt, and do APtHA shows very well…see more on our webisite…I’m told won’t find fancier pintos than these!!

Our stallion is a Paint…he is from 3/4 TB and 1/4 stock horse lines (reining/cutting lines…not “halter”).
Our mares are TBs and WBs though he did jump the fence and get the hubbys Appy mare in foal last spring so we also now have a pintoloosa Oops baby.

I love Florida Foxhunter’s boys

I just wondered for those of you that register your Paints with the Pinto Association, if you ever considered the National Snaffle Bit Association?

The NSBA has Hunter Under Saddle classes along with several incentive programs. With the PtHA and APHA having dual approved classes, it’s just another option which helps offset showing expenses…

I’ve been keeping our stallion enrolled in the Breeders Trust and NSBA programs – I think our colts are too atheltic for the Western Pleasure, but I would love to see more color in the Hunter Under Saddle classes. Plus I keep hoping they will expand the classes by adding Dressge, Jumping, etc.

I have not done Pinto Assoc with the APHA Paints…more the crossbreds (Paint/WB or Paint/Arab crosses). Having done both shows though a few years back…my personal experiences were the Pinto folks were a lot nicer to deal with. I have mostly TB hunter type Paints and the horses that were winning the hunter classes were stock horse types that moved like a WP horse dressed in a Western saddle…not hunter type at all…and under mostly stock horse judges too. The only show we did well was the one where there really was an actual hunter judge. It got frustrating…so I quit going expecting to do well…just made it an exercise to get the horses out there at less cost than open/ rated shows.
Have not done snaffle bit as I always associated that with being “Western” folks but one of the offspring of our previous stallion (same sire as my currrent studly) was NSBA reserve HUS champion one year a few years back…so maybe something I should consider. I did find with the first studly that Breeders Trust with the APHA was a “must have”.

I have a QH stallion that has produced some really nice hunters even though he is a cow horse, but the babies are being shown as really nice hunters. He is a cremello so he produces color every time. He is by the palomino stallion Color Me Buddy, that died a few years ago. We don’t breed much any more just because there are so many horses out there. Our last foal was an accident and he will be a year old in Feb.
