Any new Appaloosa Sport Horse stallions around?

So I know there are quite a few other Appaloosa Sport Horse enthusiasts around. I am finally in a place where I can breed my mare. I have an idea of a stallion, but before I send in that check, wanted to make sure there isn’t a new stallion that might be a better fit.

What I’m looking for:

Fresh or frozen semen. Appaloosa, Appaloosa Sport Horse, or Knabstrupper stallion. I may also consider a Warmblood that nicks well with her Hanoverian lines or a Thoroughbred that nicks well on her Thoroughbred lines.

The plans for the baby are an all-around sports horse: eventing (around Training level), combined driving (goal is Advanced level), some show-jumping and dressage.

Mare in question is a 10 year old Appaloosa Sports Horse. 16.2hh, bay with blanket. What she needs improvement on: more length and correctness of legs (she does paddle a bit), more powerful hind end, stronger loin connection, a prettier head would be a plus. Gaits, I want to keep her fantastic walk, trot could use more hock action, canter needs more reach underneath and power. Temperament-wise, I would like to cool her down while retaining her forwardness and lightness.

Her pedigree:
Sire: Chelsea’s Ghost, ApHC Foundation

Dam: Franzia, Oldenburg

Who are the new Appaloosa Sport Horse stallions? I know that there are some out there but my Google skills are failing me.

Have you checked out this stallion?

I don’t know what his movement or temperament is like but he sure does have the spots!

You can see a video here. He is super!

He’s not new, but Colorado Skrodstrup would probably fit your list. He is the only Knabstrupper stallion in the world that is approved sBs, RPSI, and KNN. He is also eligible for approval with AES. He is also, I believe, one of only two Knabstruppers in the world that have successfully completed a 70 Day Stallion Performance Test. He was 3rd in Dressage and 5th overall at the testing. He also has competed successfully through fourth level Dressage and Level four in Jumping.

He has a super temperament and is an absolute blast to ride, as well :). For more information as well as photos of some of his offspring, you can check him out here:

Good luck with whatever stallion you choose!

![/QUOTE]

According to USEF the highest jumper level he competed in was Level 3.
The highest dressage level was Second Level test 3.

Please post the shows he competed in Level 4 in Dressage and Jumpers.

Of course, it’s possible that USEF’s record is wrong. In that case as the stallion owner you probably want to get that corrected ASAP. It’s public info…

I do know of Sartors Showtime but never saw a video before, thank you for posting it. If I was looking for just a driving/dressage horse, he’d fit the bill perfectly. But I do want some jump and his bloodlines don’t scream jumping even though he and his sire scored well in the jumping portions of their tests. He is one to consider.

I really like Colorado, but I don’t think he and my mare would be the best fit. But he is a really nice horse.

I’ve also looked into Upal von Norholm. I really like him but there doesn’t seem to be much information out there about him or any of his foals.

Double post.

I will contact his previous owners and have her re-check her information. Mea Culpa if the information is incorrect. Thanks for the information!

USEF wrong? Say it ain’t so! Man…next you’re going to tell that there is no Santa Claus <sigh>.

I will check with his previous owner and correct the information accordingly. Mea culpa if the information is incorrect! Thanks for the heads up!

What about one of the boys at Altamont Sport Horses? http://www.altamontsporthorses.com/stallions.html

Colorado Skrodstrup

I know you said you don’t think he would be right for your mare, but I have to put in a nod for Colorado Skrodstrup for any other Spotted stallion fans out there. I handled one of his foals this year for his RPSI inspection and fell in love with him. He is beautiful marked, put together well, dances when he moves and the best part is what a ham he is. If I was in the market for foal, I would be snatching him up. He is sure going to get his rider noticed in the ring. Good luck with who ever you choose

I really like Hollywood Hot Spot. He’s very high up on the list, however, I would like to see him over fences. I’m planning to contact his owner to get her input.

I’ve noticed all the Appaloosa stallions I’m interested in all have a very high xx percentage and all the Knabstrupper stallions have high percentage Warmblood breeding.

Waps Rolls Royce

Even though he is touted as the “Hunter” of the Wap line, he has what it takes to be a great all-around sire. He sticks a true 16.2, with good body, great bone, great legs. Hind legs on the Rolls kids are excellent, heads are gorgeous, and he always seems to improve the topline. The solid colored offspring are consistently mistaken for warmbloods.

He has a 2012 filly out a Landgraf bred mare, and she is stunning. I have broke and started 3 of my own, all pace/chase/jump fantastic. The coming 5yo did very well on the HB line as a yearling, and cleaned up local(unrated) hunter shows her 3yo year. She is in foal to a Roemer son for 2013. We sold our 2008 gelding as a 3yo, shortly after he completed a schooling event at Elementary level(2’3) with ease. Super hind leg on that boy!

His offspring are starting to speak for him. There is a JG Waps Fan page on Facebook:

Waps Rolls Royce has his own page as well:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Waps-Rolls-Royce/246279575435970?ref=ts&fref=ts

And so I’m not just plugging for Rolls, I have a 2008 Wap Spot filly that was started this summer, and jumps small courses with ease, hacks out the best, hunter paced a few times, and carts around an 8yo around the ring.

On this line, since I just bid on a breeding to Colorado and got it, I would love to know anyone with personal experience with him or his get. I really, really, really like spots and would like to get back to riding them in upper level dressage. DO you think he adds or takes away movement? (NICE moving mares.) The height is an issue with me. Does he throw bigger? What percentage in reality has he thrown of color with solid mares?

There are several photos on his offspring page that hopefully will help you a bit. Colorado was imported a few years back, and up until we got him, he had only had a handful of foals here in N.A. This year was really the first “real” foal crop, so we had a bit more opportunity to see what he actually produces out of a variety of mares. So far, I think the general consensus is that he has certainly not taken away movement, but has definitely added some movement with several different mares.

(NICE moving mares.) The height is an issue with me. Does he throw bigger?

That I think will probably be a “time will tell”. The filly we have will probably mature around 16:2, but her dam was about that. We currently have a colt here out of a mare that is about 15:1 that will probably finish close to 16 hands. But the filly is a yearling and the colt is a weanling, so it’s just too early to really know for sure.

What percentage in reality has he thrown of color with solid mares?

Statistically he “should” throw color 50% of the time. The reality is that all but one foal this year was colored. The filly we had last year, out of a Selle Francais mare (mare was plain bay) we thought she was plain bay like her mum, but she is varnishing and has a few scattered spots this year. It will be interesting to see what she looks like next year.

You can see some of his “kids” here: http://www.avalon-equine.com/offspring-by-colorado-skroslashdstrup.html

Have you seen Wapuzzan? I know some of his offspring have done eventing.

Kathy–I’ve been ALL over your web page and Colorado’s stuff. Believe me! And I will be emailing you and talking to a lot once Sonesta gets the check in the next few days.

No history before he was imported? No babies there? Since he’s 13, you’d think there’d be something.

I love this thread…

I love Wappuzan.
