Anybody know their TB's racing name?

Since I have followed racing pretty religiously for the past few years and worked at several different tracks, I was curious how many of you knew the racing background of your OTTBs. If so, would you mind sharing? Who knows - maybe I’ll recognize an old friend!

There was a thread under the Racing forum - I believe called TBs I have known - that has an extensive list of OTTBs.

We’ve had three here: Be Mine Tonight (97), Enchanted Table (86) and Run for Charlie (78 and still going strong!!)

My 17 yo stallion’s registered name is Lose That; he was bred in FL, raced in NH and MA for four years. In the money 18 out of 44 races IIRC. Sire Pass the Line (Northern Dancer g’son) and dam Wajima’s Lady (by Wajima).

My 7 yo mare’s name is Skedaddle Fast by Navarrone o/o Fairly Fast by Fast Play. Raced once at 4 (took her that long to get broke out of the gate properly, apparently!). “Outrun”.

My 8 yo mare Big Queen by Big Sal out of Revived Partez. Raced mostly in PA I believe. Something like 80 races, in the money probably half the time. Not big money but steady little tiny purses, I guess the owners just liked seeing their names on the form!

You probably wouldn’t know mine, but I’ll jump on any chance to tell someone about my boy!

My guy raced only 6 times, I believe all starts were at Hoosier Park. He’s a little (15.3-16.0ish) gray TB, raced under the name Greyrose. He’s by Pistols and Roses and out of Longtown Ms. He only raced as a 3yr old (so in 2000).

My horse is Aggressive Brass, a 1994 model. Out of Aggressive Lady by Dixie Brass. He came off Suffolk Downs at age 10, although I think he was used as a pony for a while too. His nickname is Spud. I loff him.

Social Register…blah. Probably one of the blandest horsing racing names ever.

I don’t think I’ve met anyone who DOESN’T know their TB’s Jockey Club name.

Funny Story: I worked on the track (Monmouth Park) in high school and one of my horses was called “Rugby Al”. A year later, I was in college 650 miles away and dated a guy who was from Philadelphia. We got to talking about horse racing and he told me about a trip he’d made with his buddies to Monmouth Park the summer before where they had all won a big trifecta starring a long shot named…you guessed it…Rugby Al! They were so excited with their winnings that they remembered the horse that made it possible–he was something like a 50:1 shot who WON and paid off a huge trifecta which they had played simply for the “lucky number”.

Mine’s racing name was Keles. She’s a 1999 chestnut TB mare, and raced in pennsylvania a few times, I think she won two races. Then she got rehomed through CANTER (someone from Chronicle was actually interested in her I found out by googling her name!) and ended up in CT and eventually up here with me in MA

Yep, the first thing we do is get their pedigree and race records. It’s fun knowing who they “were”. We get win photo’s too!

What track do you work at?

My mare is Retrieve the Gold (2000) is a NY bred mare by Our Emblem out of Varsity Gold by Transworld. She had 44 starts and won 94K, mostly at Charlestown WV, racing for 4 years. I got her as a CANTER owned horse one week after her last race, a year ago.

You can see her progress over the past 14 months through the link in my signature.

Joeski (my older guy) and Ruester Roo (my new guy). Not sure if the first one is actually right - his tattoo is a bit blurry, but the racing history seems to fit. Still waiting on the jockey club records for Ruester.

I have to add, Ruester came from the BEST trainer up in PA, my instructor got a few from her as well and let me say - all those horses are in great shape (mentally, condition wise, and physically) though they had some OTTB issues, naturally. Joeski, on the other hand… mental! (but sweet, which is all that really matters :D)

Rainy’s Boy - 1993 gelding - 75 starts, 9 wins. Raced from a 2yo to 11yo… LONG time and legs of steel. Never been lame a day in his life. Louisiana bred - raced Fairgrounds, Delta Downs, Evangaline, and one other place… don’t remember where.

He’s my dream horse. He loves people, hates apples, always game to try anything, WAY too smart for his own good, and jumps me out of the tack… HUGE jump. He’s mine until the day he dies.

Lets see…(Most recent first)

1.) Unbridled Lad (Current)

2.) Castle Mint 2004-2005

3.) Close Relative 2000-2004

4.) Bold Willpower 1996-1997

5.) Cape Roheiba 1994-1996

6.) Patent Leather 1989-1992

7.) Chant De Guerre 1988-89

8.) Sho Me Shingus 1984-1986

Thats all of 'em. That were registered and we knew about it.

Yep, it’s the same as his show name.
Unconscious Bets (Cost Conscious x Bingo Bets) 1997
You probably woudln’t know him though, he raced in California.

DEFINITELY remember Be Mine Tonight. He was a NY horse and I’m pretty sure he won a stakes race? Don’t remember the Hoosier baby but I was Pistols and Roses’ hotwalker in 1992 at Gulfstream!
Wow. I am old…

Where did Unconscious Bets race? I have a 9-year-old gelding who ran in Northern California briefly. A lot of good OTTB eventers come out of Norcal - St. James Place and Hallowed Envoy to name a couple.

Utah Beach by Bertrando
Stone by Key to the Mint

were my last two. I love a well bred TB!

My Advanced horse’s racing name was Delta Bully, by Cormorant out of Bully for Us.

My current OTTB, Mister, is a '94 New York model who ran as Sir William Lewis.

My first OTTB’s name was Swinging Romeo. He now resides in CA as Gatsby.

my boy is Back Stage Bouncer (1993). He raced a hand full of times at Suffolk Downs, won his first, and it was all down hill from there. all the better for me… and probably him:D
