Anybody know their TB's racing name?

DEFINITELY remember Be Mine Tonight. He was a NY horse and I’m pretty sure he won a stakes race? Don’t remember the Hoosier baby but I was Pistols and Roses’ hotwalker in 1992 at Gulfstream!
Wow. I am old…[/QUOTE]

I galloped Greatsilverfleet, he ran against Pistols and Roses in the Pimlico Special… I have a great picture of both grey horses coming down the stretch!

Greatsilverfleet was stunning. Was he a gelding? Wonder whatever happened to him.

You knew Pistols and Roses??? That’s awesome! I don’t know anything about him really, but all of the babies I’ve seen online by him look just like my Jelly. I found one of Jelly’s sisters last year that looked EXACTLY like him (1/2 sister).

Just out of curiosity, how was his temperment? (If you even remember). Sometimes I wonder how much of Jelly’s former craziness was due to his history and how much is in his blood. He’s the most mellow horse in the barn now. Just wondering what that sire was like… I might look for another by him when it’s time

Mine:
Proud N Cheerful (Rugby) current
Admiral TH
March Wind
Dutchman’s Folly (Dutch Treat)
all a long time ago on those. All raced.

Roman Gladiator

My guy’s name was/is Roman Gladiator by Roman Mombo out of Eskimo Delight. I event him under that name, too. He was born April 11, 2000. I doubt you know him, but I’m still gonna talk about him. He raced 47 times and won 3, came in second in 1, and came in third in 1. The last time he won was in March '05 and we got him in Dec '05 from Beulah Park in Ohio. I believe he raced a little over a week before we got him. I love him to death!!

Here is a link to a website where you can find videos of your horses’ races. You have to sign up I think, though. Unfortunately, it doesn’t show all of them, I’m kind of mad that they took off the races of him winning, but, being geeky and wanting to save them, we recorded them off our computer screen with our video recorder (shhh, don’t tell;)) I’ll see if I can dig it up and show you my guy really showing off (he comes from behind)

Dr. Greeley (1999)

He’s by Mr. Greeley, and he ran at Calder and Gulfstream… I actually ordered his win pictures…pretty cool

Doubt you would know mine, but I’ll play too. His name was Sir Bigun, is a 1991 baby, born in Washington state, raced in Northern California and Arizona for 5-6 years. He was never a star, but won a couple of races, one of which was an allowance race at Bay Meadows. Had several seconds/thirds. Was claimed 5 or 6 times. Ended up with me when he was 10, after being off the track for 3 years, is now my training level event star! (star to me anyway  …) I did change the name, however, someone pointed out to me that it sounded like a porn-star name.

My OTTB was Can Do Sammy. Or just Sammy for short. He was an Idaho bred. Dam= Paula Mason Sire= Majestic Man. He raced in WA for 3 years in the late 80s early 90s.

Yes - Be Mine Tonight won one of the New York Stallion Stakes races at Belmont. He is a smallish chestnut gelding with a snip. Bred, owned and raced by the late PG Johnson who also trained Volponi. Quite an impressive pedigree as well. (not that it mattered) We had him here for several years - jumping fool, but the dressage was never his cup of tea and he was a hard horse to ride. We still own him, he is leased to a young lady in Massachusetts who wanted to try to sort him out - and unfortunately old “track damage” caught up with him and he is now enjoying life as a pasture ornament up there. My son evented him here under the name Bossa Nova.

And now for a round of “it’s a small world after all”. . . .

Ive gotten all mine from Philly Park:

  1. Mt Colebrook (Mt Magazine x Chez Chez), I sold him after he got to training level to a YR that took him advanced. He has been sold to a teen that is doing the jumpers.

  2. Punch Landed (Two Punch x Waquoit Landing), he did beg novice but was better suited for the hunters which he is currently doing

  3. L Ratt (Foligno x Erika L), he went novice then I sold him to a woman that did some eventing but mostly jumpers. He unfortunately died this year from complications of colic surgery.

  4. Lazer Sword (Sword Dance x Stem), he is going training but we are hopefully going to make a switch to the jumpers. I will most likely have him forever

  5. Reigle Kali Ko Var (Patton x Accumulate), he is started in work, never raced, will most likely be sold as a hunter.

I’m leasing an older OTTB now – R.Huey, a 1988 model who’s still going strong! He did his last ** at 17 and still jumps around like 3’6" fences are nothing  I don’t know much about Huey’s racing life, except that he had something like 60 starts, and I’d guess he came from somewhere in Maryland…

He’s quite an old model, but if anyone knew anything about him, that’d be pretty neat

One Mon Melody (Rasta) and Miss Wicked Witch who has now been sound for 3 straight months …so hope to get her out this year. Vets think she just needed time to get stronger physically with NO work and really good nutrition. No new splints in ages and ages. She’s simply gorgeous (and knows it )

Coyote OTTB

So Slow Coyote is a OTTB who came from the Suffolk race track in Boston, but was bred in Florida. He is 13, and has only refused 6 times in the 9 years that I have owned him. And, he is doing 3-4th level dressage work.

I have seen a couple of other Coyote OTTBs mentioned in the eventing world.

Our girl was TX bred and raced. She ran a grand total of 3 races, kind of… From what I understand, they took her off the track after the 3rd race in which she refused to come out of the starting gate. She just stood there and watched the pack run! Obviously not a racer but man does she love cross country!

My guy’s a 1988 NY bred grandson of Graustark named Valuable Asset. BARF!! He raced on the flat as a two- and three-year-old, then over fences as a five-year-old.
His barn name is Tigger, because just like the song says, he’s “bouncy, bouncy, bouncy, bouncy, fun, fun, fun, fun, fun.”

The horse I am priviledged enough to “borrow” once a week is a 19 yr old 16.3H dark bay named “Takeashot don”. He was from Nebraska, no idea where he raced but he did earn around $90K I believe. He is an Alydar grandson.

From Suffolk Downs via CANTER: bay mare Golden Bangle (now Jane Deere: She needed to leave the track that day, and our only open stall was the tractor shed!).

From Delaware Park, Tim Ritchie’s stable, Darcy Kino.

After not riding much this summer, took both out for an XC school yesterday (Darcy’s first!), and they were both foot perfect even to the ditch.

Many years ago bought a TB stallion from UConn for $500 named Take the Plunge, grandson of Rock Talk. We evented him Prelim, and after an injury retired him back to his breeder where they field hunted him. He had incredibly good manners and wonderful athleticism.

I currently have:

Bug Eyed (1996) (Crimcino-Billy’s Halo)

Rising Prices (2007) (Texas Fuel-Bug Eyed) (not raced and won’t be)

Elijah M (2003) (Labeeb-Presence Galore)

I have had:

Wandrn Wille (Spanish Drums–Im Overpowering)
Stalworthy (Stalwart–Regal Heart)
Pilgrims Zeal (Unreal Zeal–Travelers Key)
Classic Julip (Classic Account–Little Mint Julip)
Gold Bayou (Fast Gold-Baby Run Quick)
Mythical King (Majestic Light–Happily Ever After)
My Gallant Bet (My Gallant–Betty Marsh)
Tumble Dry (Cinteela–Be Good Ava)
Naskra Due

I’m missing some, but I’ve had those over the last 10 years or so.

My mare is Special Natalie, by Special Invention and out of Deserving Lady. She raced a few times at Hawthorne.

My old gelding is Desert Wyn by Desert Secret out of Dwynwyn. I love his breeding. He only raced a few times at Fairmont Park.

our bunch never won much

Dodging Traffic, 2001 gelding I got through CANTER PA this February. We just completed our first starter horse trial last weekend!

Grubby Soldier, 2000 gelding we got through CANTER MA two years ago. Took some time off to settle and grow feet and heading to his first horse trial next week.

Advancing Dawn, 1997 gelding, my husband’s current event horse. Apparently not much of a racehorse but just a wonderful eventer. I love this horse - a true gentleman. And believe me, when you’re watching your dear husband get ready to do his first Prelim event you really want to love and trust the horse he’s riding.

And I agree with Deltawave - most folks I know event OTTBs and most of them, if not all of them, know the race records and pedigrees of their horses. It’s nice to have so much history, even if it is just on paper, on the horse you’re riding.
