Anybody know their TB's racing name?

The only one that is registered with the JC in the U.S. – Southern Shuffle (Dixieland Band x Darby Shuffle) He trained in KY, raced in Texas, Ohio and NM/AZ. Came to me through his guardian angel on COTH – Lord Helpus.

My other U.S. OTTB raced in such a backwoods bushtrack circuit, he ran against QHs and they never turned in his JC papers, but he is Repeat Offender (Taylor Quigley x Cuivre River). I have the paperwork to register him, but at five, it was going to cost $2500 and I’d just gelded him, so I didn’t see the point. He has two babies by QH mares and I sort of hoped their owners would split the cost of doing it, so that their babies would be registered Appendix, but they never would commit the $, so he is still unregistered. (And, no, I did NOT breed a TB stallion with crooked legs and no papers! That happened before he came to me!)

And, Taz is NZTB “Kotare Legend” (Pandemonium x Kotari Girl) who evented in NZ as The Wylie Coyote.

Knowing their histories is really cool!

Ours is fun b/c he’s really well bred.

Sphinx - Kris S. x Inreality Star by Inreality

Inreality Star threw Breeders cup and Eclipse winner Meadow Star and Optic Nerve.

Kris S. produced something like 60 million in winnings, five breeders cup winners, three eclipse winners… notables include Action this day, Rock Hard 10, Brocco, Hollywood Wildcat, Symboli Kris S (two time japan horse of the year and 8 million dollar winner), Prized, Kissin Kriss, Dr Fong and Soaring Softly (Among others).

We didn’t know anything a/b him when we went to buy him… no name, no nothing. He didn’t win much, but he’s got MAJOR work ethic… .and looks pretty to boot

Peaceful Ski, 1993, bred in Kansas, sire: Speedy Nijinski

So cool. I do remember a lot of the names posted here.
Pistols and Roses was very kind and professional to handle on the track. He was very alert and always had his head at the stall door watching the action outside. I don’t recalled him ever biting or trying to be naughty; he was definitely my favorite horse in that barn (other than a darling mare named Timely Kris).
I went to visit Pistols in Kentucky a few times (before they moved him to Florida). As a stallion he was a little nippy but still pretty easy to handle. They even let me hand graze him on a windy day!

Soes Ahead…If I recall, he was a 91 model, who started his career at Belmont. However, Soes Ahead was never ahead, and lost his first race by 20+ lengths. He spiraled downward from there, never living up to his name, and ended up at Mountaineer in WV, which is where we came in. He was by the NY stallion, Titanic.

He was a lovely event horse, who went by the show name A2/C Riley (the a2/c refers to the air force’s ‘airman 2nd class,’ which is written on my dad’s old Air Force footlocker from when he enlisted. My dad loaned me the money to buy the horse, so I gave him a little kudos for the help in the horse’s name. His barn name was Riley when I got him, so that’s why the ‘Riley’ part of the name.

Sportin" High, by Sporting Life o/o Hallucinate…

I show my two under their race names (bad luck to change names ;))- Bootjack (1996 by Tilt Up- the pace setter for the Affirmed/ Alydar races- and a Mr. Clinch mare. I would clone him 5 times over if I could!!!) and my new horse, Doctor B (2002 by Military and a Prospectors Gamble mare). My husband’s horse is Supreme Kite (1988 by Shanekite and a Nasty and Bold mare- yeah, who??). Gotta love the OTTB!

I’ll play-we have 2.

Hoja en Blanco. 2000 grey gelding by Always Silver (grey, 1989) out of Sitzmarkett (bay, 1988). Foaled in Florida. He never actually raced as he had a serious aversion to the start gates. I fear he paid dearly for that decision for he is covered with scars and has some interesting mental issues:eek:He is the kindest horse in the world but sometimes the loose screw starts winging around inside his head. We love him to death and continue breaking our hearts over him bc he is so dear. He is also extreeeeemely talented and a gorgeous mover. If only we could get to the bottom of him!

Too Many Numbers. 2003 Chestnut gelding by Numerous (bay, 1991) out of Lady Trilogy (dark bay, 1991) Ran twice for a total of $380

I would like to know more about mine. His name was Acey (speedy nijinsky x vivid stanton). He was bred in Kansas breeder Verne Rutledge 1997. He has nothing listed as a race record on his papers - is there some place to look that up? I bought him in NJ in 2005. He is listed as a bleeder.

I just finished the book Horse Heaven and I am wondering more about his time at the track. How can I found out where he raced?

Winnie’s Tash, by Manastash Ridge. Winnie, a sassy (but sweet!) red-head (chestnut mare)won some $ 80 000+ on dirt and turf. Retired sound from racing at age 10, safely in foal to my Concerto Grosso (imported Holsteiner) for 2008. Hopefully the foal will be a kick-ass eventer one day.

Anna

www.equineline.com for $3 you can get a tabulated race record.

Mine was named “Modest Man” born in 1998 I think, he’s 9 now (i think)?
I’ve had him for close to 4 years now,
He only won 1 race but he wonc close to 50K he got a lot of 2nd and 3rds.
He’s lived in more states than I’ve ever been too. And he was sold for cheap at several sales, I think the most was like 30,000. He was Ky bred.
And He ran the best on Turf!
I would love to find a pic of him racing or his only win photo… but I have no idea how to find one.

Mine is a Speedy Nijinski kid too…I posted farther up this same page.
His pics are at:

My horse’s racing name is G.R. Ranger.

Somehow he became known as Martin - and is registered with USEA as Martin (via a previous owner.) And, well it just fits him so well - so he shows as Martin.

But I have his papers as G.R. Ranger - don’t most people get the JC name through the papers? His tatoo is on his brand inspection too - they use it as a distinguishing marking.

My horses name is Just a Devil, and he is anything but a Devil. He is so wonderful to ride and really tries hard to do whatever you ask of him. He won about $90,000 on the track and won some decent allowance races and earned a 101 speed figure. I can’t believe that I was actually able to get a horse as nice as he is.

 You had Noche? Did you buy him from someone in Hillsborough??

I just read the rest of the thread and see that he must be the same horse! I’m the reason he was in NC in the first place!

What track injuries caught up with him? Front? IIRC he had some small ossolets…not sure what else. He was a cutie though.

The person you got him from is a good friend of mine. Samll world.

Ok I can play this game too

Aw, that is so great to hear! Sounds like he’s a lot like Jelly. Jelly has ALWAYS had the most amazing ground manners of any horse I’ve ever dealt with. And such a kind little spirit. I kinda always figured his nervousness (which was only under saddle and in work) was more due to his experiences and quirkiness that I wasnt’ able to tap into for a while. He’s practically a saint now. I’ve always wanted to get another Pistols baby, and esp now that I know he was a kind horse (so probably passed it to jelly and his other babies) I may look for one!!!

You made my day! Thanks for sharing!

Hmmmm,

I’ve got a horse now that is out of Alstar Baby, who is by Baby King out of Comet Chaser. The later two raced and did well, so the JC papers tell me.

I also rode a mare who was out of Odds by Well Mannered. I rode alot of progeny of Well Mannered, who apparently didn’t run fast but made great eventers/dressage horses…

J.

In a round about way. He went to Caroline Dowd’s and at the time my son was riding with her. He was here at our farm about two years. Had some real hoof issues that took my farrier almost the entire time he was here to get sorted out. He was a very tough ride in the dressage ring, although very solid XC and stadium. He spent about ten months with Torrance Watkins after we decided that he was not the right horse for the YP, and a friend of Torrance’s and mine took him to Massachusetts for her student.

I am not exactly clear what the issue was, as we never had any front end soundness issues with him - they had the right front fetlock injected and I understand it was questionable as to whether he would go back to work. He does have a great home, and a great retirement place if he doesn’t go sound.
