Anyone breeding ponies/small horses for upper level dressage?

Pretty much as the title suggests, any breeders out there focusing on upper level dressage ponies and small horses? Basically warmblood abilities but in a smaller package?

I know about stallions North Forks Cardi and Popeye (although I’m not sure if he has competed at the FEI level).

All the nice ponies that I’m seeing for sale are in Europe. There must be some here too though that i’m missing.

Please educate me!

We have quite a bit of push for the pony breeders in New England and offering them more rewards to get them out at the breed shows. Some of them are breeding the ponies to warmbloods and getting some nice stuff! Twinlight Farms has done well with that. http://www.twinlightsfarm.net/

The Fletchers, out of New York have some outstanding ponies. The farm name is www.hiddenmeadowfarmsporthorses.com/

Shagya Arabians range from 15 to 16.1 hh and have all the sport horse attributes anyone could want in a somewhat smaller package. They can be described as a warmblood in an Arab suit.

http://www.roselanesporthorses.com stands the Westfalen pony Golden State out of California along with a few others and posts here as honeylips.

goodpony who breeds Connemaras and crosses has a good eye for movement, and her homebred gelding is getting pretty high up the levels

I’ve seen other very nice ponies around. There seem to be several people breeding nice dressage ponies but only on a small scale, ie one or two at a time.

You might check on facebook Golden State Westfalen Pony Stallion. He was imported from Germany and was 2012 Bundeschampion over there. He has quite a few foals here in US already if you want a young one. His owner is a Cother, Honeylips.

Also check for German Riding Ponies (GRP) for sale.

HI - I have imported Golden State (the only Bundeschampion in the USA). He is also 2014 USDF Horse of the Year (first pony to ever win). He will show PSG next year.

I have imported an FEI pony stallion named Petit Marc Aurel. He is available for breeding also and is my primary personal competition pony this season.

Finally I have a third pony stallion in Germany - Golden West. He was the 2014 Bundeschampion and will compete again next week in the 2015 Bundeschampionate. He will come to the USA in 2017 most likely but we will have frozen semen for 2016 in the USA and Australia from him.

There are quite a few pony mare owners who are actively breeding as well as several other GRP pony stallions standing at stud in the USA. The dressage pony breeding community is dedicated, active and growing.

Some good friends of mine breed registered Canadian Sport Horse Ponies:

Thanks for the leads, glad to know there are some great ponies here!

Honeylips - you have a pm

We are also breeding for this market. Foals from our 2015 foal crop that we feel are going to make stellar dressage ponies!

Thanks for the mention, LesleyW. Yes, we breed a small number of German Riding Ponies and Canadian Sport Ponies including for dressage. One German Riding colt (Bodyguard/Bennos Dream) we had last year sold as a foal to a petite adult dressage rider in New Jersey and we have a full sibling on the way for 2016. We also have two 2-year-old fillies (one Hanoverian/Welsh, another sporthorse/Welsh) that should do very well as dressage ponies. They’ll both finish around 14.1.

I imported and own Popeye who stands at Hilltop Farm. Popeye did show through 4th level and was schooled through PSG when we opted to change direction and have him compete in Eventing. We felt it would show that not only is his Dressage excellent, he is also a superior jumper. He has crossed well with GRP mares we imported and Welsh cross mares we had here. The offspring are competing in Dressage, Eventing and now Driving.

Here’s another one breeding fancy moving ponies:

Twin Lights Farm has some nice youngsters, including a couple who are under saddle but green (and the owner would LOVE to have a competent small adult take them on.) She has a 4 YO grey mare who is right around 14.2, not sure if she is over or under. And yes, there are only one or two born each year.

I know about this mostly because my Morgan filly is going to be joining their herd as a boarder in just over a week

Twinlights best mare had a lovely Golden State filly in June. However, I don’t think they are selling her.

I met the little booger recently, and she is very personable and cute, as well as being just lovely.

Knynynmont Connemaras just listed several quality ponies for sale on the Connemara List–their stallion Aiden has competed very successfully i think through 4th level.

There are also some super WBx’s available and a few GRP crosses: https://www.facebook.com/groups/556732984388795/

I am a fan of Nancy Holowesko’s pony stallion: http://www.crosiadorefarm.com/stallions-1/#/manchester-city/

I have had several Popeye foals, and have ridden three of them. They are athletic, good movers, and have excellent temperaments. They are very brave ponies and a lot of fun to ride.
My three year old stallion Pixar by Popeye was recently approved by the ISR Oldenburg, and will be presented to the GOV next year.
Golden State is a beautiful stallion, unfortunately I cannot recommend him because his owner is unreachable, and has not honored a breeding contract from last year.
Twinlights has a couple of fantastic sale prospects.
Manchester City is a fantastic pony. Nancy has wonderful pictures and videos posted on Facebook.
Also, Lisa Martin Gerdes has a young Connemara stallion that is stunning. I believe she has already bred him.
