I wish I knew about this site a year ago, I’m the latest frustrated leasee
After finding this, I, on one hand feel like an idiot for being so gullible and on the other hand, I’m in a bad situation but maybe not as bad as some of what I have read. I currently have Demi (13 yr old Hanovarian mare) on a “show” lease. She was severely underweight but I took her anyway because she moves beautifully and I was told jumped 4 ft. We worked hard to get her back in healthy shape and started jumping her. She physically can jump 4 ft but mentally does not want to go 3ft or more. I was encouraged to give her more time to bond with my daughter… then a minor quarter crack developed. I had agreed to a year lease and now that we are nearing the end, B refused to take her back because of the quarter crack. B states that Demi is not in the same or better condition as she left because she deems her “damaged” and as per the contract, she will not take her back. The crack is isolated and never spread nor did it crack the entire wall. Demi never took a lame step due to the crack and my vet saw it when she did spring shots and she said she would call it more of a defect than a crack. I have engaged an Ohio attorney to help me end this nightmare. Demi is a sweet horse with great movement but not the right horse for the job I was looking for. She certainly did not meet the expectations I had based upon the info I got when I went into the lease. Now I read all of this and … I’m more frustrated with myself and disappointed in society that someone with this kind of track record has not been stopped. Shame on me for beleiving in mankind and getting involved in the first place. Anyone that has any helpful information or advice or any history on Demi and any possible hoof issues, I would appreciate hearing from you either on this Thread or via PM.
Thanks in advance for any help.
