Anyone else come back from the WEGs sick?

I’ve been feeling like crud ever since I got back. Now I read somewhere that there was some flu that was going round, and that it was “international” not local.

Has anyone else heard about or suffered from this? Now would be just about the incubation period for flu, given my dates at the WEG.

holy crap, yes, I did and so did my friend who was with me.

I woke up with a very sore throat on Thursday. I thought it was from Wed’s camp fire smoke. All day, sore throat hurt to swallow. More of the same on Friday. By Saturday afternoon, I had to ditch out on the second half of Marathon and go lay under a tree. I could not breath. My chest was so tight and hurting, coughing really bad. I thought maybe it was just an allergic reaction to all the dust and the cig smoke. I even went to the med trailer and they gave me an inhaler and a Claritin. It helped but by the time we got back to the camper that night, I was toast.

Sunday morning, I did not get up. I was completely flat. My friends went to Cones without me and I slept the day away until 6 pm. my hubby actually rented a car and drove down the six hours to drive the RV home for me.

My friend had a sore throat, runny nose and cough by Sunday afternoon.

We are both congested as all get out. My head hurts, nose runs, chest aches and cough burns.

So do you think it was European germs that made me sick? I was only there 48 hours before my symptoms started. Regardless, I feel like puke.

Yep! All the same symptoms. Almost missed the final four I felt so rotten. Finally had to haul myself to the Dr on Tuesday for meds. I thought it was cumulative exposure to all the dust!

Oh yes. It made the rounds. Bound to happen with so many people coming together all at once. The dust didn’t help either.

Felt it coming on so I went out and drank enough Crown & Coke to kill a lesser person (ie non-Canadian):winkgrin::winkgrin:.

That knocked it out!!

One of my friends was rather ill for a few days though. The shuttle buses were cesspools of nasty germs…I tried not to touch anything.

Hope everyone feels better!

Ah, the WEG Plague… I only got a mild case, but my friend that was working with me got hit by the truck full force… She’s been miserable for DAYS.

I had a really sore throat for about 3 days after Sunday but it has since gone away…thankfully…must have been the alcohol I drank on Tuesday night

Watch now that I said that it went away, it will come back with a vengeance

the WEG Plague, that’s funny…

also funny how this never came up before the games. It just never crossed my mind that I would get bowled over by germs at a big event, what with as many other horse shows I go to every year…

I just lived in the NL for a year and got sick 6 times though out the year. I am not too surprised that everyone got sick when they got back. So many different germs from all over the place.

I am all sore and tired. I was there for the driving phase of the event. Sore throat, tired, I lack focus, I figured that I would get a little cold because of all the people and new “germs” but this sucks!

how long does it last? i have felt crumby for 2 days now.

add me to the list :frowning:

I had a mild case of WEG plague after working on cross country…the drive home was reeeeaaally long and I spent two days the next week in bed…which is almost unheard of for me!

YES!!! I got a sore throat day after I got back, still feel like crap! WOW WEG FLU!

Yes, but it took a few days to hit full force. Last week I was congested and just kind of down, but I figured it was a “WEG Hangover” But then Friday night I got a full on flu and was sent home from work Saturday and slept all day. Sunday I was marginally improved, and by Sunday PM I was able to function semi-normally.

Or we can see it as…this is the WEG hangover and our bodies are protesting that WEG is over because we had a ton of fun and wonderful memories…

Agreed  WEG DTs!

We have The Royal Plague in Toronto. I rarely get sick except after RAWF. I never know if it is the actual concentration of people or the way one tends to abuse themselves for such occassions. Both perhaps.

Yup, the people I was farm-sitting for both got it, and today I woke up with huge swollen glands, so I’ve either gotten the WEG plague, or my son brought home the elementary school crud.

Sheesh, what century do you live in? This is not the 1400s and Christopher Columbus bringing germs to the all pure Americas! How will you feel when, after 2014 WEG, somebody asks if, like at any big event there is a flu kind of bug going around, if it was the Americans bringing their germs?

Whatever germs are there, they are here too!

And yes, I was also going to mention the Royal Plague every November here! Many people, no proper hand washing… there you go!

My DH came home with it during the 1st week of volunteering at the WEG. I had it by the end of the week.

After going to watch the eventing cross country, I was in bed for two days. I went to my PC Doc on Monday and was better by Thursday.

It was one powerful bug! I am sorry to hear that so many of us caught it. Hopefully, everyone will feel well soon.

Maybe he/she was joking? I hope so! LOL

I did NOT get sick, btw. Maybe I made all of you sick! Or maybe I washed my hands a lot. Maybe it was the Kentucky Burbon that killed the germs in me? Who knows?
