Anyone else have a terrier?

I have two scotties and I love them. I have worked very hard controlling their terrier temperments, and can let them off leash at the park and i know they will ALWAYS come back. I am so proud of them. They are both rescues and have some a long way!!! They wag their tails now and love to cuddle. They didn’t at first.

anyone else have a terrier they love?

I have a 5 yr old Jack Russell Terrier who is the best dog ever and my heart dog. He can be a crack Russell terrier at times, but mostly he is laidback. He likes to cuddle on the couch and watch tv, loves cats, kitties, and chickens (and not to eat), he has an excellent recall, and minds better than most children.
I rescued 2 hound puppies a few months ago that were dumped out at my offices and were mostly feral. I had to use a live trap to catch them after a month of trying to tame them. Anyway, my terrier has been the best dog with those 2 puppies and has played a big part in getting them tamed and used to domestic life.

I don’t, but I think you spelled it wrong. It’s actually spelled terror.

Lol. Just teasing (a little, we all know THAT terrier). I actually find their tenacity to be a big benefit, as well as the fact they don’t hide their emotions they don’t bite without considering it first lol.

On a relevant note, congrats OP on reprogramming them to be meaningful members of K9 society

aww thanks! I am so proud of my little pack…Scotties are cool terriers. Excellent hunters but not too barky and jumpy…love to sleep at home…it has been a rewarding experience as these are my first dogs besides from my childhood…I think I am doing ok…

and yes mine were terrors when I first got them…I was bit by both, the ran away, peed on the floor, chased the horses, dragged me on the leash, barked at dogs…

They are model citizens now…aside from Mak not liking certain dogs…haha. Took about 6 months…

I have two pits, which is 150 lbs of terrier between the two of them
Got filthy in my work clothes this morning pulling the bigger one out from under my deck where he had gone after chipmunks

haha aw man I know your pain…Your pits and my scotties should hunt together!!! My scotties seem to really like pits…

I had a JRT for 14 years who thought he was a cat. I am not sure what he was supposed to be like, but he was very laid back, very difficult to train, but a good dog on his terms. He was a good farm dog but it was a good thing we lived in the middle of nowhere because he had his own (catlike) ideas about coming in. Loved to go to shows. RIP Cricket, best of horse show dogs (always on leash). He always slept curled up on his bed with his favorite feline. I am not in a rush to get another dog because I am really a cat person and catdogs are hard to find.

Love my almost - 14yo JRT. She’s been the best dog. We adopted her from a shelter when she was 2 and she was housetrained, good with our cats and great off-leash.

Now she has a bad heart murmur (and mitral regurgitation)…hoping we have a few more good years!

both jacks I had as a kid lived to be around 16! The one we had came to every horseshow with us. We never leashed her. She stayed at the truck when told to…she was soooo good…we would leave a bed and her water and food and there she would stay. She was SO devoted to my mom. RIP Molly

I have border terriers and am very active in the breed. We have six split between my house and my parents’ house. They are so much fun, and we are very busy competing with them in conformation, obedience, rally, earthdog, and agility.

I used to have a terrier, he was great. If I could have cloned him I would have.

Now I have a poodle…who wants to be a terrier. And a Pitty/Lab who has zero terrier traits.

However, I still consider myself a terrier person. Love them.

We used to breed JR’s - consequently stories came up a lot a dinner parties -
one can dine out on those quite a bit and be entertained all night.

I LOVE my 11 yr old JRT. I call him the anti-JRT, because he is so well behaved. He is slightly famous too, he appears for a nanosecond in Horsepower Road to the Maclay!

I have an almost 8 year old rat terrier.
She is a great dog, farm dog and company.
We trained in obedience and agility when she was young, then because of a bad hock she has been “only” tractor, utv and farm couch potato since.
Rat terriers are like JRT without the extra zip.

I have a miniature schnauzer who just turned 2 on 9/30. He is bright but not your typical wicked smart terrier which keeps him out of trouble and easier to entertain. He’s also a fantastic hiking partner, a fetching beast, will swim all day long, and is a pretty snazzy show dog. I am smitten to say the least.

I vote my terrier cross as highly intelligent. Actually we have three, but mine is pack leader. When it is time to go out potty, he stands at the door and counts noses. If someone doesn’t come, usually our chihauhua cross, he will go get him, put his mouth around his neck and gently walk him to the door. When it is time to come in, he again counts noses and if someone doesn’t come in, he goes and gets him.

My daughters terrier cross (looks like a small bengi) is the peacemaker. If packleader is disciplining some one, he comes along and stands on my dog to say, its ok dad, he got hte message. lets be done.

And my dh’s terrier cross (maybe part mini schnauzer?) is just hte most playful fun pup ever.

I have a terrier mix thingamajig  He came from a hoarding home that over 159 dogs were confiscated from (including 19 puppies) so I don’t know his exact breed but there is no doubt that he is a terrier. He loves to burrow under the blankets and just roll and flop around. At the dog park he eggs all the other dogs into chasing him. He play wrestles with my cat and the big dogs. Pretty dang cute but holy cow is he spunky! He is intelligent but stubborn. Sure wish I knew what exactly he was but regardless I love him.

Haha I have a half schnauzer, half poodle. I have another poodle mix I used to be convinced was also part schnauzer (and still who knows) but after getting lulu, man do I see the terrier in her! I know a lot of her personality is tempered by the poodle, which is great for me, but man when she gets focused she lets that schnauzer intensity show through. It made agility class tons of fun, now if only my schedule allowed more of it!

As a kid I had an Airedale. According to my dad, our neighbour was beating her and offered her to my dad “otherwise he was going to shoot her cause she wouldn’t listen”, classy I know. My dad took her, he said that initially she would cower in fear and pee when he said “no”. Eventually she got better, and a few years later died of distemper. I was little, and she was so patient with me. I used to ride her, put my fingers in her nostrils, take her for tricycle rides… She was a great dog for all I can remember.
