Another positive report: I ordered mine at Equine Affaire, OH and was told I’d get them end of June/early July. They arrived last week!
Quality: they are lovely. The leather is soft and the boots are gorgeous. I got lots of compliments walking around in them at the barn.
Fit: a little too tight and tall. But I hope this will improve as they break in. I was measured over bare legs, and the rep assured me they would add to the measurements to compensate for breeches/socks. Either they A: weren’t quite generous enough with the addition, B: the 4 lbs I’ve gained since then have all settled in my calves, or C: the makers know the boots will stretch with wear and these will be perfect in a few more rides.
Similarly they are a bit too tall and cut into the back of my knees painfully. I hope they drop an inch. Also, I have the zipper backs, and where the boot creases, the zipper digs into my heel. Very uncomfortable, but I had the same problem with my Sergio Grassos, so other than pre-emptive bandaids or gel bands, not sure how to fix this or if the problem will resolve as they break in.
I’ve ridden in them 3 times, and assess they still need more breaking in. However, they look exactly like I hoped, and for the price, I’d strongly recommend these for folks who can’t make an off-the-shelf pair work (I have very short legs and a full calf: nearly impossible to find ready-made) and are on a budget.
If I did this again, I’d be sure to wear breeches and socks to my measuring session and perhaps ask for a slightly shorter back than normal. However, the take-away is that I would do this again. In fact, my fair-weather-rider DH plans to order a pair at next year’s Equine Affaire.
From reading all the posts, it looks like the experiences folks had a year or more ago aren’t representative of what you get with La Mundial now. Kudos to the company and hard-working reps for improving their customer service. I look forward to having these boots for years to come.[/QUOTE]
In the grand scheme of the world, I consider boots a tad to tight, and especially ones that are Too Tall a “White Person’s Problem,”
Signed,
Someone old enough to remember when fugly off the shelf boots were always, always to short… as if by design! Oh, yeah, and I’m total Victorian. If the wasp waist were in style, bet yer butt I’d be wearing the corset that would kill me. But I’d look really, really good before that happened.
Enjoy your tall custom boots. They’ll get better for you.
