Is all MSM created equal or no? What, other than price or convenience, is there to like over another brand?
Personally, I like the Smart MSM from SmartPak because it comes in pellets and the mare eats it. :lol: Good enough for me. Oh, and you want at least 10,000mg per serving for maximum effectiveness.

Thank you for the response, this may be the challenge, I am not finding the mg per servining on any of the containers/ads for msm, Iāve even scoured ebay, should I be looking for it labeled different?

MSM is MSM. No mirror images or anything to worry about. So just find one that has an appropriate amount of MSM listed per serving and that your horse will eat. The SmartMSM says 10,000 mg of 99% MSM per 20-g serving, so 9,900 mg per 20-g serving if you want to get technical.
MSM = methylsulfonylmethane. Structurally it looks like DMSO with an extra oxygen attached to the sulfur: CHāS(O)āCHā

I prefer a powder form of MSM. It mixes well in the mashes my guys are fed. We use the Peak Performance Nutrients Premium MSM. Great buy

Iāve used Premium MSM from Peak Performance Nutrients for years and its worked great. There is no fillers of any kind in their products so you feed less.
Since my horses get multiple supplements in their feed I try to look for products that donāt have a lot of extra stuff in them like dextrose, alphalfa meal, etcā¦ If Iām buying MSM i want MSM not half filler and half MSM.
I buy whatever I come across that is the cheapest at the feed and tack stores as long as they have the 10,000mg per serving dosage. Itās all the same stuff. 
Great stuff, though - I have noticed a difference with my mare when in hard work on it, so she is on it permanently as far as I am concerned.
I like āSelect the Bestā. Smartpak sells it very cheaply 
I really suggest AniMed MSM, itās one of the cheapest brands and one of the best. I have tried different brands and AniMed is the only one that made a visible difference. I believe their source is an American source which may be making the difference.
I have been researching supplements like crazy! Trying to figure out what would be the best for my very active 19 year old jumper. He looks and acts like a 12 year old. I was using a combo product but have read an excerpt from John Lyons Perfect Horse DEC2007/Jan2008 issue that MSM is an effective anti-inflammatory but that a study in horses with hock arthritis showed it takes a dose of at least 20,000 mg a day to be effective. So it is best to buy it by itself so you can adjust the dosage! I will use Vita-Flex MSM.
MSM is MSM- find something affordable and available in your area that your horse will eat. Ditto Jacqui on the suggestion to buy it separately, rather than mixed in with another supplement- joint supplements all work differently and being able to adjust them as needed can make all the difference.

Anyone know of an anti-caking MSM? Iām sick and tired of having to break up my MSM every time I go to refill the supps.
Iām currently using Select The Best cause itās cheap. I really donāt want to go back to pellets because they wonāt all fit into my supp container.
Has anyone tried Horsetechās OptiMSM? Are there any other brands out there that wonāt cake/harden?
Equine neutraceuticals is essentially a non-regulated industry so donāt buy any products that donāt clearly advertise mg/serving. This advice comes from the AAEP but it kind of goes without saying.
Other critical pieces of information to look for is a Lot # on every package, contact information with telephone number, and buy from a larger, well known company.
You mentioned Ebay - be very careful about buying supplements on Ebay. You donāt have any guarantee how long it has been sitting around, or if it has been opened. Only buy from a reputable tack or feed supplier. I trust SmartPak for everything.

As others have already said, 10,000 mg per day is the therapeutic level. Many products provide significantly less than this and itās a waste of money and time in my opinion.
There are plenty of articles in both the equine and human world stating that MSM works best when combined with glucosamine and that to do either one of the other is much less effective. (10,000 mg glucosamine is the standard for horses.)
I also like Smart Flex Repair for an all-in-one joint supplement. My vet has also recommended Platinum Plus Complete Joint but it does not supply at least 10,000 mg. of each so thatās my only concern with that one.
