Congrats! She’s a keeper for sure. The more I see of your horses the more I like them. How many foals due in 2012?
Interesting…

Yes, I am familiar with Mechanical Kitten and really liked her alot! I never got around to asking Lois before her death if she bred the mare. I know she owned both the sire and the dam of Mechanical Kitten. Cedar Ridge Spot was her heart horse. I really wish I had held onto Ghostwind’s Spirit as a colt but working full time and breeding horses, and having to do all of the work yourself was just too much on my plate.
Anyway, she said Solar Snow Coyote was not her favorite stallion, but only because of temperament. She said he was a big beautiful stallion but something of a handful. She like Cedar Ridge Spot and the Ghostwinds Echo more, I think because they were just more laid back. She greatly valued the Cedar Ridge Spot daughters and granddaughters, particularly those of Sun Powder Spirit who Cheryl of CT Ranch Apps acquired along with Ebony Mirage Spot. Unfortunately, Sunpowder Spirit has passed on. Just loves the names on these horses. Very evocative.[/QUOTE]
I don’t yet own enough old line appies to know if there are any “personality” consistancies in some of the lines… But, I do wonder about Solar Flair Eclat offspring and grandoffspring… because, my filly, Eira Gwen, can be quite the pistal! Of course, I also have a weanling colt, (whom we call MJ for Michael Jordan, because from an early age he has been jumping over things… :D) and he is also an RDF Ti Kha Atta Rain offspring, out of HMH Leopard Angel (virtually a full sib to Mechanical Kitten)… though he was more standoffish initially, he is now more of our typical pocket pony, and certainly more “compliant” than the filly… I guess time will tell about the personalities and dispositions…
Oh, and btw, Mechanical Kitten, aka “Michie”, has foaled a few offspring in the past… I am under the impression that Irene purchased her from Lois when she was a young horse, so I don’t know about her breeding history when Lois actually owned her… but, when she was at Hi Mountain Hollow, she produced two offspring for Irene, in 2003 and 2005, one a filly and one a colt… I have no idea where they are or what they are being used for now… Then, Michie was leased by a woman in NY who was breeding araloosas; during that time I believe she produced a total of three foals, all fillies… Unfortunately, one of the fillies died and one, as of last year, was still owned by that NY breeder; the third one was actually foaled at Hi Mountain Hollow and then came with Michie to VA after I purchased her last year… At times, I ask myself how I ended up with an appy/arab cross filly, who will probably never exceed 15 HH at maturity!
I will definitely let you know if we are successful breeding Michie in 2012!
Thanks!

I have two foals due in June, 2012, one is a full sib to Eira Gwen (RDF Ti Kha Atta Rain x Waps Malaika), who won the ApSHA IBC at DAD… the other is a foal I am very excitedly awaiting, as I bred my Wap’s Reflection mare, Waps Blizzard, aka Bliss, to the now deceased FEI dressage TB stallion, Stravinsky, aka Trachit (http://www.sporthorse-data.com/d?i=145990)… so, I am really hoping for an FEI level dressage prospect with some spots!
My Solar Flair Eclat grandson just won the Rocky Mountain Dressage Society All Breeds award for Appies for 2011.
He’s a huge character. Apparently a bit much to handle before he was gelded at 6-ish, but he’s my best buddy and has been for 6 years now.
If you do facebook, there’s a “Scripter Appaloosa Breeders” page, which is very interesting. Quite a few people carrying on the legacy.

Currently 18 months, 16 hands, 1100 pounds. He is going to be huge! Sire - Butterwap Confetti. Dam - Show Me The Stage, 2002 world champ Appaloosa hunter under saddle, and in hand.
The second pic is him at 8 months next to a 16.2 QH.

Thanks for that. I’m going to have to check that out. I know these lines are still being bred, just not so much for the sporthorse disciplines it seems.
We are venturing into Appaloosa sport horses. Years ago we bred a few super nice Appy SHs from our stallion Meisterwind. Then we got a “too good to pass up” offer on our last Appy mare and decided to concentrate on breeding only Warmbloods.
We have 3 Appy mares now and 2, 2011 Appy fillies. One of the mare is 100% foundation, Sundance 500 bred and the other 2 are really well bred, with very little QH blood. They will most likely be bred to our stallion, Lion King in 2012.
We will continue to breed Warmbloods as that market has been very good for us, but we are pretty excited about the Appaloosa Sport Horses.

Oh and congratulations on your allbreeds award! That’s awesome. Pictures?
Found the group on FB. Lots of wonderful photos there. Thanks for the heads up.
I have a 50% DWB and 50% App filly.

WOW! Gorgeous mare! You don’t see buckskin apps very often. What is her breeding on the App side. Very nice.
Thank you I love her, she is the sanest horse I have ever had and so honest!
I don’t have her CWB papers infront of me but her mom is from Otoe lineage.
(I am not familiar with app’s so I don’t know what that means)
Her sire is Pacific Star STV.
Waps Rolls Royce
Waps Rolls Royce will be standing in PA again this year, after spending the last 2 breeding seasons in Maryland. He was breed and owned for most of his life by JG Appaloosas.
Contracts & new pictures will be up on the website shortly, but for now please see his new Facebook page.

Once again this thread is being brought back from the dead.
I was searching Sport Horse Apps and this was the only thread I could find. I’m thinking of breeding my App mare next year and can’t decide WHO to breed her to. I AI’d her a couple of years ago to a Selle Francias but she coliced and didn’t get in foal that year. I decided not to breed her back to that stallion so I’m looking again.
Patoka is a 2002, 15.2hh, few-spot; Wap bred on the top and out of a race bred Appy mare and she has the best temperament of any horse I’ve ever owned, you can lay her off for the winter and hop on her in the Spring and she’s as good as ever. No “Appy-tude” with this mare! I’d like to get a lower level, ammi-owner friendly event prospect with my mare’s temperament but a bit more size and bone. Does anyone know what happened to the Wap Stallions (other than Waps Rolls Royce who posted on here just a few months ago) once JG Sport Horses dispersed? And do any of them event or all they all hunters? My mare is more of a hunter type and I’d like to get something that can run and jump a bit better, for that reason I’ve also considered breeding her to a TB. Then there’s still the option of breeding her for a half WB baby which, if it ever has to be sold, puts it in a more marketable category (Apps don’t have the greatest reputation in this area)…
Waps are still around!

Hi Michelle!
Do you have any pictures of your mare to share???
Anyway, the Wap stallions are still around for the most part… If you do Facebook, you might check out the JG Appaloosa Sport Horse Fans page… (http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/204722799714/)
Waps Rolls Royce you know about from Meg’s previous post…
Waps Applause is in PA with Georgeanne Yoder, who posts here occassionally…
Wap Spot and Waps Infinity are in FL with Cindy Kerns…
Waps Millenium is in TX with Bill Parmley…
I have Waps Limited Edition (http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/waps+limited+edition), but he is not currently available to the public… We hope to have him start a dressage and eventing career later this year… And, pending his performance, he may be available next spring…
Hmmm, have I forgotten any???
Most of the Wap stallions have LOTS of bone, particularly Waps Applause and his son, Wap Spot… Many of the Wap stallions are more oriented towards hunters, but Waps Applause had a previous career in both the hunters and dressage, I believe… and he is half TB, so might be something to look into… Wap Spot is considered the “dressage” appaloosa sport horse…
Other Appaloosa Sport Horses at stud…
Hollywood Hot Spot (www.altamontsporthorses.com) is half TB and has a great jump!
There are others, just having a some brain freeze right now…
It may be controversial, but with a “smaller” fewspot mare, personally, I would be looking to consider breeding her to an awesome TB, something that’s actually done well in the eventing world…
How about A FIne Romance??? His owner is on here frequently and he has some awesome offspring actually performing in the eventing world…
And, there is a nice list of TB stallions with great sport bred pedigrees that was compliled here in the past several months… I will try to find it and post it for you…
Good Luck and keep us posted!

Although Toka doesn’t have a lot of “wow factor” she’s a very pretty mare and draws attention wherever she goes, unfortunately she’s the least photogenic horse I’ve ever owned. These are the only pics that I could find and none of them are very good conformation shots. Also attached is her pedigree, I’d have to look closely at the Wap stallions’ pedigrees to decide if I want to breed that close. I’m still leaning toward breeding her to a WB. I love TB’s but I’d really like to breed her to something very uphill and “rideable” with tons of bone and big feet.

ETA: The photos are about 4 yrs old and the rider in the pics is my then 12 yr old daughter. The one pic was taken at home goofing around and the last pic was taken at Pony Club.
I think Mitma’s idea of a nice TB like A Fine Romance, is a great idea. She looks like a lovely sport-type mare. Good luck.
We event a couple of Wapuzzan babies. One is 6, 17 hands, just ran his first training. There’s lots of notations about him earlier on this thread (Jerry, Wap’s Rocky Road, Wapentake). The other is a full brother (owned by a student) who’s 4 and just starting out - I think he’s in this thread also. He’s going to be 17+ (already is 17) and is very laid back but will jump anything (hasn’t done his first recognized yet, but this weekend schooled a trakehner and a full coffin).
Wapuzzan is probably homozygous, so if you’ve got a few spot, the baby probably would be also.
He’s in Wisconsin, now I think, and I suggest you consider him for an eventing baby.
Wapuzzan is lovely as are his kids, but I would avoid the inbreeding, period. If you want color, find a black NC Appaloosa stallion you like - there are a few around - and breed that way. The loudest color by far comes through breeding a few spot App to a black NC App, or other colored NC App for that matter if black isn’t as important to you. Her being a fewspot, you’re guaranteed color, it’s just a question of how much you want to try and get her to express it, if that matters to you.
Found this guy just quickly going through the Stallions at Stud Ads on JustAppaloosas.com: http://justappaloosas.com/mar06/00461.htm
Not a breeder or anything, but this is what you get when you cross a registered Appy mare with a QH/TWH stud:
