Are the Games being televised?

Hope they didn’t pay a lot for their exclusive rights. Since very few can receive the channel, they are going to lose a packet. Effectively they have blacked out the games in the US. Or maybe their strategy is to get cable operators deluged with requests so that next year there is accessible coverage. Which does nobody any good for this year.

This looks promising: http://www.overseatv.com/english.shtml#

Possibly, but I would never suggest paying THAT much for something that may be available for free. I’ve found a few different sources for ZDF and WDR, and one for Eurosport and am working on more. I’ll just have to test them over time and see which one works the best. Will report back.

Oh BTW, this one will get ya: HorseTV is available in the county next door to me - but NOT in mine! Different cable providers, both with government-sanctioned monopolies. This type of corporate clusterfruitbat at the consumer’s expense annoys me no end, so frankly I have no guilt feelings whatsoever about hacking into coverage elsewhere.

No HorseTV

Well, we can always watch dart competitons or paint ball championships or like a previous poster mentioned, cheerleading (yeah, right!). I contacted dish network and they indicated no plans to offer horsetv in the near future (or the far future for that matter). It irritates me that I get horse racing tv and not horsetv. It seems there used to at least be some show jumping on. Now, even those competitions are few and far between on OLN.

Thats what I said too

The USEF seems to be really into HorseTV as there a lot of mentions of it in their press department. I could be out of line but I truly suspect that some connection by a person or persons between the two organizations aided in the FEI/WEG awarding the rights to HorseTV. It sounds like a Mason Phelps kind of deal IMHO.

To be fair, as for getting the rights, I really suspect there wasn’t a rush of bidders. What they should’ve done was your standard RFP (Request For Proposal) to all the sports cable channels and other channels that have aired competitive riding - from Animal Planet to OLN to ESPN to USA Network and HorseTV and ask them to bid. Considering the costs to produce the show is likely absorbed by the British and German markets (with a pre-edited feed to other nations) the revenue they were looking for with the US market would have to be low.

As I said my guess is the HorseTV folks went to WEG/FEI very early put a deal on the table and nixed any open bids to more real players [e.g. marketing coverage of at least 60 million households] who could better showcase the sport in general. That is what is most annoying - a blown opportunity to air the sport to a wider public.

Animal Planet saw that HorsePower drew in viewers and ratings so they could’ve seen the benefit for airing fresh content like that. But again as I said before I think most of the people “in charge” with promoting the sport couldn’t market a warm blanket to an Eskimo.

Maybe we could borrow the Parellis for a couple months?

Is this kind of service for real? And would they possibly carry it if it is for real?

ok, I tried to copy and paste the link, it wouldn’t let me. So I have typed it in: www.freeskytv.info/index.php

my riding instructor who has Dish Network in SE PA does get horsetv…so perhaps it varies by local…i have directv so I am hosed, but maybe the availability varies from place to place even within states or counties…just a thought…and I completely agree, i do not need to see the brat eating championships or darts or paintball on espn…i would much prefer some equestrian activities…brat eating a sport, spare me

Caveat emptor.

this is a link from the homepage of our national riding committee and shows the planned horse things on TV and on which station. But I have no idea how to see those sations via the internet…

Thanks Alexandra - very helpful!!

we have friends that live on the Bahamas. They have a satelite disk (correct word ?) to get German TV (maybe that is a satelite called ASTRA ). All the normal German TV stations like those in the link above can be watched by them.

OK, folks, if you Google “Terra Nova” you should come up with a LEGAL link for today’s coverage. I haven’t found a link to the other station yet & I’ve got to go into a meeting at work. :frowning:

If link doesn’t work I’d suggest an anonymizer.

???

I googled, I got references to a LOT of sites, but nothing that even remotely seems to be connected to sdports, let alone WEG, let alone TV link.

wahhhhhhh!

Me Too!

If my shaky Deutsch is correct (not to mention my math skills for adding up the time change!), link should go live around 1:30 p.m. US Eastern:

http://www.terra-nova.tv/

they have a report on with some nice riding trails, tipps and tricks, nothing special on WEG…

They start their live stream at 12:35 middday eastern time. german time minus six gets to east coast time.

As for the satellite thing, there is quite often riding on tv. All the bigger events in Germany and even dressage or 3 day eventing or driving is shown sometimes. So who does not care about the language and just wnts to see the pics such a satelite thing might even be a good idea - not only for the WEG.

some good news re. horse-tv

I received this in response to my email to the Horse-TV folks:

Thank you for your email and interest in The HorseTV Channel. Please understand that new networks like ours are not automatically added to cable and satellite program lineups the moment they are created. We are working hard to get launched as quickly as possible, but the process sometimes takes longer than desired. We have and continue to make terrific progress. Also know that ultimately it is the cable and satellite companies that determine how quickly a new network gets picked up and aired. As you can well imagine, huge corporations, like the telecommunications companies, don’t make overnight decisions.

I may have good news for you. We are hoping to bring WEG to folks via broadband. Updates will post to our website as the information becomes available. Please check with our site (www.horsetv.com) over the next several days to see where we are with the service.

We appreciate your continued support and patience. Hang in there. Good things are on the horizon.

Well, at least they’re more responsive than ESPN.

It could seriously be a smart move for HorseTV to do an online broadcast. That would give them the stats to present to the cable companies.

Here’s hoping.

WEG on DVD

For those who are getting TV coverage on the WEG could somebody PLEASE (with sugar on top) burn me a copy on DVD for me? I’ll get the DVD disks out to you plus shipping. I so want to see the games, uncut and in full. If anybody wants to do this favore for me I GREATLY APPRECIATE it. Please PM me and I’ll send out the disks out as soon as I get the PM. I’m most intrested in the show jumping and eventing but if you can get all of the events that would be great.

Just let me know how many disks to send and how much shipping will be.

Thank you so much!
