I am now thinking of buying a new DVD recorder (have just a not working Video tape recorder - I discovered the not-working today grrrr). All the TV coverage times are in my working hours or shortly after. So tomorrow will be a shopping trip to the closest store for TVs. Noidea if it is better to buy one that records on DVD and on internal drive or what to do. Sigh. Will need to have some input tomorrow by store personal and hopefully I get a knowlegable person.
On the German version of the WEG website, there is a link for streaming video just under the date.
If you live in Canada.
It looks like CBC Country Canada is showing full or near-full coverage of the Games. They have six hours of coverage daily, shown at 7:00 PM and repeated at 1:00 AM the next day.
If anyone has or can get this channel (most people in Canada with cable, ExpressVU or DirectTV), I am prepared to do you some enormous favour (Um…gold or something from Dubai?!) if you will tape the coverage and share it with me! Plus, I will definitely pay for your two months subscription fee… I don’t think I can even see highlights here…
CBC Country Canada did the same thing during the 2004 Olympics and I saw all the Dressage and Showjumping. Unfortunately, I didn’t hear about it early enough to catch the Eventing. This time, the program schedule shows all the events and the CBC CC website includes a blog site with messages on it from Canadian competitors and grooms in Aachen.
Go, CBC Country Canada!http://www.cbccountrycanada.ca/worldequestrian.html
wow, than they cover more than german TV ! So far I can see only early evening summaries in the programs…
CBC Country Canada really does a good job! Yay for our national broadcaster!!!
Opening Ceremony being streamed live from WEG website.
The WEG opening ceremony is being streamed live from the WEG website now 9.45 a.m. EST.
Enter rtsp://braeburn.a1-net.de/wm2006.sdp in your Quicktime Player. You will need Quicktime and a Broadband connection.
The sound is a bit intermittent. It was off at the beginning came on and went off again.
There’s some pretty impressive mass drill teams right now.
Very cool!!
I thought there was going to be a wreck between the Eventers & the 4-in-hand though!
I have the TV on and they had a quadrille of 64 (!) breeding stallions from all state studs of Germany. first they did something in 4 rings and in the end all 64 in one ring doing some interesting figures and as highlight a windmill figur !!! Wow that was impressive and all of them breeding stallions !
Thanks. Worked for me, but for some reason only after I eliminated the double forward slash at the end of the URL: rtsp://braeburn.a1-net.de/wm2006.sdp and pasted that in to Quicktime.
Princess Haya speaking now…
Hey - should we do a COTH AIM chat?? I don’t know how to set it up but someone else might??
Unfortunately, the audio stream isn’t working, but Endurance is about to start and a herd of loose Arabian horses just came through the stadium. We have stilt walkers and a woman dressed as a falcon as well as hundreds of kids doing a routine with umbrellas…
Nice quadrille now!
Thanks - I just got online in time to see the Friesian drill team - ausgezeichnet!
I guess like all multi-day televised activities there are high points and not-so-high points. Gotta fill up that airtime.
Half an hour before that did you catch the two smiling guys in business suits stand in the rain in real time, draw Warsteiner bier (“Queen among beers”) from an enormous keg into a very large tall glass, pass it back and forth and drink it while nodding to the folks under umbrellas in the stands? Went on for five minutes. Seemed like a waste of all this technology. Guess since the keg was in a horse drawn cart there was at least a tenuous connection to the theme for this sponsor.
Hopefully the sound will stay online more reliably in the next days.
o.k. ultiate solution:
http://www.onlinetvrecorder.com/
one can download the what was on TV and it is for free! A freind tried it, I have not done sofar but am doing tonight. It should work and it seems to be partly in english (the homepage the TV broadcast obviously not…, but anyway, who cares ?)
seach for Eurosport, ZDF, WDR and maybe ARD as station and one can use the list on the WM homepage for the what is on when to select from the above service…
alexandra
have you managed to do this? i registered and everything seemed to work well but when i went to pick out programs none of the scheduled ones were showing up. so then i just did a general wish list search for ‘dressur’ and still nothing. couple others failed as well… i don’t know if i’m doing something wrong or if these programs are blocked for some reason.
Search for “reiten” or “pferde-sport”, that seems to be how they’ve got the horse stuff listed.
Thanks for the link, Alexandra, it does seem to work. But I think I can live with the online stream, given the limited amount of time I’ve got to watch.
i did the second way of selecting the things “by table”. I chose the broadcast stations WDR, ZDF or Eurosport ad clicked on the o.k. behind them. A scheduleof the chosen stations appears.
Everything with the words Reiten WM Aachen Reiterspiele is o.k.
As help one can use the “TV list” on the Aachen homepage because it shows starttimes and stations of german TV. Click on the green plus sign and it is reserved. Than you can download later on when it was bradcasted.
Under the section FAQ there is also a guideliine how to do it in complete.
That friend said it works very well ! And one can even put it on DVD for watching it later anytime.
I will definetely select dressage tomorrow and see how it works by downloading it in the evening.
And on top I discovered that they hve BBC (3day eventing next year ?!) and a nice movie channel I can not receive via TV… Plus I can now watch german TV while being on business trip abroad.
My poor laptop will be very busy
It’s a good time to vacation in Canada…

Yup, CBC CC is showing 6 hours of dressage right now. No commercials, expert commentary. Very impressive! They had similar coverage of the Olympics. I am not confident you can get this station via satellite, but it is worth calling your provider to ask. Folks in Canada, you can get it if you have digital cable.
How does Canada have coverage when HorseTV made a big stink about getting the exclusive North American rights? Did they resell them to you guys? I don’t know how that stuff works…
