Are these guys safe? Hubbard's dispersal...

I am not in the TB loop, however, I just noticed this on Blood Horse, and of course, like all horse lovers, when a bunch of breeding stock and young horses go on the market en masse, I am concerned that they get a safe landing. Does anyone know anything about this group, or the potential for great homes? Thanks!

They are selling without reserve, so no guarantees. The bids so far aren’t that terrible and there are 6 days left for bidding.

Fingers crossed. I do worry a little about the broodmares.

I’m sure someone who is in the loop can opine about the breeding and desirability in today’s market.

Good for you, bringing the auction to attention. Perhaps some Sport Horse folks will take an interest if they spot what could be a bargain.

They do have some (not too helpful) videos if you go to “see details” under the horse’s info.

These are probably the nicest thoroughbreds in the entire state of New Mexico. Really well bred horses on the whole. Sharing the auction never hurts, but I wouldn’t be concerned.

That’s great to hear! They seem to be in good condition. Thanks @Texarkana .

As of this morning, every single one of the cataloged horses has at least one minimum bid of $750. Most are in the thousands, with some of the nicer stock in the low 5 figures already. The auction doesn’t close for 6 days.

The only one I was really worried about was hip 15, a 2yo gelding with a sesamoid fracture. But even he has a $750 bid now.

There are a lot of nice horses in that dispersal. I see several I’d want if I were in the market. I’d imagine they’re all going to find good homes.

I always feel a little sad when I see a dispersal of someone’s horses when they’ve passed away. Just knowing that they’d spent a good portion of their lifetime breeding those horses and no one is there that wants to take over.

It’s nice that there is so much interest in them. It’s a fine legacy left by Mr. Hubbard.

That’s exactly how I feel. I can’t help but imagine the time and thought, not to mention money, that he must have expended to develop that program.

I also have a soft spot in my heart for those older broodmares. I’m especially interested in the 17-year-old bay broodmare, Hang Glide, with the big knee. She has produced several stakes horses and has two fillies in the auction. If she were mine, I would give her a retirement since she looks a bit worn out to me, even though she is young enough to have a few more foals. Don’t get me wrong, all of those horses look well cared for and are in good weight.

@skydy I agree, it’s sad. Especially since we lose more and more of these breeders every year. You know, the type who dedicated much of their lives to developing generations of successful horses and families. It’s so hard to do in today’s world.

Did you watch her video? Her 2020 filly has some real spunk.

I’m in love with Hip #5: Aisle Runner, and apparently a lot of other people feel the same way. He’s already up to $5k. Good thing I’m not in the market for a horse!

There’s a 2002 mare by Danzig. I didn’t realize he was at stud at 25yrs.https://internethorseauctions.com/auction-hip-detail.php?aucid=384&Id=20610&Start=&closeinc=75&AnName=&Cate=&Sexx=&Discip=&Sttate=

His last crop were foals of 2005!! Hard to believe!

Thanks so much to all of you who responded to my thread. These things always worry me for the older, and younger horses who might fall through the cracks and wind up on a truck. It happens in all breeds. I deeply appreciate your shared concern!

Well, it looks like these ones will be OK. It seems Mr. Hubbard was a well respected breeder, if the interest in his horses is any indication.

You’re a good egg for caring.

Darling filly! Hang Glide looks better in the video than in the still photo.

I really like lot 26

Just updating: with 2 days left to bid, every single horse is selling for well into the thousands now.
