Are you supplementing vitamin E? If so, what product are you buying? Is there any reason not to get the inexpensive synthetic vitamin E or do I need to look for natural vitamin E?
Yes Ultracruz Equine natural Vitamin E
In winter- yes for both horses. In summer I only supplement my horse who isn’t on pasture; he’s in a paddock.
I use natural Vitamin E from Ultra Cruz as well at the rate of 1 scoop (4,000 iu).
Natural is better absorbed so if you feed synthetic you would possibly need to feed more depending on why you’re giving it. Dosing depends on the horses work load and health issues.
Yes, once they’re fully on hay, I use UltraCruz Natura E (powder, but they also have a pellet for basically the same price last I looked)
Synthetic does tend to be cheaper, but since you need to feed about 1/3 more, you eat up and sometimes exceed the difference in cost
At $0.13/1000IU, UltraCruz Natural E is cheap
Yep, like everyone else, I use the Ultra Cruz product, too. It’s just such a good value.
Because my grazing is just okay, I do 2000 iu per day through summer and bump up to 4000 iu per day once the grass is done. I used to keep it at 2000 iu year round, but my old lady mare was juuuust barely within normal range (on the low side) in the spring. I’d like to see her more solidly normal, so giving a bit more now.
Has anyone linked it yet? Here you go.
Or if a pellet works better for you:
Yep. UltraCruz powdered Natural Vit. E. Good stuff. I actually just reordered.
Yes, and I’m using smart pak’s new liquid formula in the bottle. It’s easy to measure.

Yes. No pasture here. Various sources.
Yes!
Shivers horse has been vet recommended to have 8000 IU per day. When he was working, that is what I fed. Now that he’s retired, I’m closer to about 3K to 4K daily. I use human gelcaps from Costco, they go on sale twice per year and I stock up!
I also buy a food that has slightly higher vitamin E - tribute Resolve bumps the standard 150-200IU per pound of food up to 300!
Yes. Smarpak SmartOmega 3 and E Ultra.
Yes, and have been since 2010. Feronia’s vet recommended it because she does not get much time to graze. A few years later, she had a neuro episode that was most likely mild EPM, and after treating it, the same vet recommended a minimum of 6000 IU per day for the rest of her life. I have used the Ultracruz powder, but am currently using gelcaps from Amazon.
Also yes and UltraCuz.
Yes, winter only, I use the gel caps from Costco.
I use Nano E with great results with my weird epm/lyme/anaplasmosis mare. I noticed a huge improvemrnt in her hypersensitivity to touch. Recommended by my vet tech friend after she attended a conference thus year.
I supplement vitamin e when my horse isn’t on grass, which is mainly during the winter. This year is the first year I’ve added vitamin e to this particular horses diet, and I used the UltraCruz pellets.
Around the same time I started feeding the pellets he started going bonkers and was a bit out of character. I thought it was young horse fall/winter things. The only thing I had changed was adding the vitamin e. When he continued to be odd, I stopped the vitamin e and he went back to his normal self.
I have no idea why he reacted that way. He eats/has eaten all of the ingredients in the pellet without issue before (in other feeds/forage). So I’ve ordered the SmartPak liquid and we will see what happens.
If you want to save some money, switch to Emcelle. Vets tend to know about Nano-E and Elevate W.S.because those are made/sold by KER, which is a “vet circle” name so much better known. Emcelle is no different from Elevate W.S. both water-soluble via micellization. Nano-E is water-soluble via being nano-dispersed but the end effect is the same
Yes. No pasture.
Her supplement has some Vitamin E (just switched and new one has 1500 IU) and I just chuck 3-400IU capsules (natural NOW brand) in the baggy. She sifts out the larger ones (1000 IU). She may get pasture this coming summer and I will just cut out the caps (depending on bloodwork). She will also be muzzled.
Yes I supplement. I vary between UltraCruz natural pellets and SmartPak natural pellets (when they’re on sale). 2500iu minimum, but usually I’m hovering closer to 3000-4000.
Anyone using Mad Barn? It seems like it’s spendy compared to others but I am on a firm no added ingredient diet for my horse. The soybean oil and rice bran in the UltraCruz makes it a no go.
I’m in Ontario and supplement for fall/winter/spring when my horses and ponies are off of the pasture.
I feed this pelleted one:https://www.horseherbs.com/products/e-booster-natur-e-natural-vitamin-e
which is quite affordable. I give 1/2 scoop (2,000iu) to my guys daily and at $50, this lasts me and my 4 guys around a month.
I also feed a few items that are higher in natural E such as W3 oil (1,000 iu), Flax Appeal (700 iu), All Phase 20 (500 iu) and Fibre O (600 iu). So I give about 4,800 iu of natural E per pony/horse a day (each animal weighing about 700lb to 950lb each) through the winter and I cut out the supplement in the summer when on pasture, so about 2,800 iu then.
