Ariat Bromont insulated dress boot fit

Does anyone know how much these boots stretch? I was going dress vs field as I can do dressage in them or hunt,

My size was the upper limit on the Regulars and it was recommended I get the Fulls for layering. I guess I’m just really used to tight field boots with no stretch panels as these feel a bit big(ok they fit and aren’t squeezing my legs) I’m just worried with the elastic panel they’ll end up too big vs getting the smaller size and having to stretch them out. Don’t want to end up paying too much on shipping back and forth and no one else currently has my foot size with either calf in stock.

I can help. I just ordered both kinds in Regulars and Fulls so that I could have my own in-home dressing room.

The short answer to your question is: Dress boots fit a tad narrower than do field boots. Try ordering the full in the Dress versions if you think the field boots are a bit tight in Regular.

Here’s my extended review:

The dress boots are different, less oiled (and a tad lower quality) leather. They’ll take a shine better but never be as soft or (ultimately) as durable. But! They have a slightly better design in that there’s a snap tab that covers the zipper at the heel end of the boot. I want to keep horse-side-gunk out of the zippers, so that was a plus for me. The dress boots also have a more extreme version of the Spanish top. I’m a reformed HunterPrincess, so I care about aesthetics. IMO, these boots are cut a tad too short, so the Spanish top will help with that. For better and worse, given the shape of your legs, I think the boots are a tad too wide at the top. I guess I have pronounced calves and get thin again up by my knee.

Fit differences in the two: Field boots will fit a tiny bit larger out of the box. The fake-leather stretch panels is the same. There’s not appreciable give if you try with your hands, but I’m sure it stretches some on the leg. That said, it will stretch more than the boot shaft’s leather and material. So I think you can take the out-of-the-box fit seriously as an indication of how they’ll stay.

I ended up keeping the dress boots in Full and the field boots in Regular. The ankle in both is too big by my standards. I’m all about the “leather sock” aesthetic that zippered boots have given us. But the ankle is a tad better in the field boots. Between the ankle and the leather, the field boots strike me as the higher quality ones.

But the field boots were a bit tighter than the dress boots in Full. I’ll wear them with heavier- and lighter breeches.

Ask if I can answer any other questions for you.

I will say that I’m happy with my purchase (for $200 a pair and free shipping from Smartpak; ain’t payin’ no $300 for too-short, fat-ankled, won’t hold a shine like my Dehners fugly boots). And boy-howdie they are warm and comfortable.

Thanks MVP!!! Yeah I wanted to get the really nice sale price from SmartPak on the dress boots but they didn’t have anything smaller then a 7. From what you’re saying I should keep the dress boots in full even though I normally wear regulars. I agree about the ankle but wrote it off to being used to zippered field boots that fit like gloves.

Well, I just returned some 6.5s-- Regular in dress boots and Full in field boots. Call Smartpak.

We small-footed types gotta help each other out.

The dress boots will be a tad tighter in Regulars that will be the field boots. I think the ankle is a little bit less refined in the dress boots. But the top is more extremely-Spanish/better.

In your spot, I’d see if Smartpak could send me some dress boots in Regular to try on. If the only 6.5 dress boot Regulars they have (or will have) are these ones that are in transit from me, PM me. Maybe I can call them and have them ear-mark those puppies for you when they arrive.

Another thought:

There’s something to be said for keeping the larger-fitting boots. The only way you get warmth out of the whole contraption is by trapping warm air and body heat generated by your little leg. You don’t want to squish all that out in your close-fitting pretty boots.

But a rant to the Gods that’s apropos here: Dude! Why must Anyone design boots that are too short? Why? What is the purpose? I see more people in too-short off-the-shelf-boots rather than folks suffering the scourge of too tall boots. And if You can design things like corsets of the 19th century and have that be a fashion thing, you’d think You could also give us tall enough boots. I’d say this goes for street boots as well. But I’ll let that go for now. Thank You for listening.

OP, my point in that rant is that we could possibly accept fatter boots if they were also tall enough. That’s why you might end up liking the dress boots in Full. They might have the combination of form and function that’s best for your purposes.

Height isn’t an issue with me, I sent the MH Active Winter boots back because they were too tall.

They make the Challengers un-insulated!

I got the fulls. I probably could have gotten away with the regulars if the boot was the same fit to wear with regular breeches.

I wear them over fleece breeches and heavy socks. They are VERY comfortable and warm. The leg gives a really nice line, even if they are a bit big.

But I STILL miss my moon boots from 1996. Those were the best (and ugliest) winter riding boots in the world. Somehow I lost them in the 12 years I stopped riding.

Yeah just don’t love the square toe and the cordova. That chocolate Bromont was really nice. Rumour had it they were going to do the Heritage in chocolate but never saw them.

I have seen those in person. The color/leather is not pretty.

The chocolate in those UK Bromonts looks better. But I’d want to see them in person. It looks less matte than in the black Bromont field boots I have. The shinier/stiffer leather they use in the Bromont dress boots isn’t quite as nice. I’ll bet the chocolate leather is of the second kind.

And those pups will set you back about 400 clams, coming from a retail place in the UK and all.

I actually liked the color, fit and quality of the leather of the Challengers!

But for brown boots, I went with these:
http://www.divoza.com/english/collection/rider/boots-shoes/leather-boots/11473_mondoni-kingston-tallboots.html
(around $200 USD with one of their promo coupons, and the shipping is lightening fast–they also fit and look a lot like the Ariats).

I love my Bromonts, but the suede calf is a total PIA to clean, and I would never pay the 400 bucks for them (in black or brown!). I’ve only had the dress version about a season, but they seem better made than the field. I’ve had the field version about 5 years, and the stitching has come undone from several places.

The un-insulated look nice because they don’t have the suede!

I have the waxed brown Bromonts and just love them! I get so many comments on them out hunting. Can’t rave about them enough. And I love the suede on the inside leg.
