attack of the black tack
Truth time.

I had black tack in the early 90s.
There might be a 12 Step Program for that.

But you don’t have to get judgmental (jealous?) with the people who can still drink black tack on social occasions only.

I say this as someone who owns brown dressage tack. And I would not be ashamed to ride in tack that started as Newmarket and was oiled/used until it got to that nice reddish brown. I think that’s like wearing Guess jeans with the high waist and the ankle zippers just because that is what was cool when you were in high school. It’s ok to be cool……decades late.

For the OP, I don’t mind black tack at a schooling show, but the clinchers would be a deal breaker for me.

I’m not going all judgemental (jealous) of others, I just don’t think it should be a trend. Ever.

I say that and 10 years from now when I’m sporting my black tack at WEF you may admonish me. I fully admit to being a slave to the trends.

Yeah that’s right 1994, Black tack and gray breeches.

This was before I walked into a big time tack store, and the owner says to me “we have got to get that pretty head out of that approved helmet.”

Is that like how doctors used to tell people to start smoking to calm their nerves?

That all black 2G solves the issue I had with the black parts on the brown saddle. However, if I was going to ride in the black saddle I would need to step up my game

I saw a really nice French saddle that was in black and it was so cheap! it was in perfect condition and I was so tempted to buy it! But I chickened out! It was the wrong color! !!

Personally, having ridden in Germany in HS I really like the black tack. I have often wondered why it hasn’t caught on here. Matches boots well and you don’t have to worry about your browns looking good together. Love it on a grey!

I really, really doubt that once you sit in the saddle and enter the ring that anyone will even notice that your saddle is black and not dark brown.

I coveted my friend’s black Crosby Corinthian…in 1986.

It makes sense to me why some selliers are making black tack again. With the popularity of eventing, it sure would be easier to have all the same colored tack.

Hate to break it to you, but those Voltaire saddles are basically black and they are certainly getting popular.

My french saddle of choice is making them in Black these days (caramel or black…what kind of horrible choice is that? Ugh)

^^^^^ My voltaire was such a dark brown colour that from far away it looked black…

One extreme to the other though, I bought a CWD that is a caramel colour!

Time for my #equestrianconfessions

Hello. My name is janedoe and I own and ride in a black saddle. And I do the hunters. Please don’t repeal my COTH membership!

I stumbled upon a custom Amerigo that was ordered but never picked up, and it happened to fit me and my horse like a glove. As someone who will never be able to afford a custom Amerigo, I had the chance to actually afford this one (think 1/6 of retail!), so I did it!

I did it.
I’m sure everyone noticed…but no one cared.
Not only did I pull the black tack but I had a short girth and a pelham with black rein converters.

It sure beats orange.

Indeed!!

ah, no black tack, local or any other hunter show, would you use hu8nter tack at a dressage show?

I have a black bridle with colored padding.

COME AT ME BRO!

Did it on saturday and my champion ribbon says no one cares.

Black tack would be easier to match…
Looks pretty kick ass to me… Although I can’t picture it in a hunter ring.

Black CWD 2G on Ebay
wow… I love it! I have a modest sum of $$ put aside for a car… maybe a saddle is a better investment - specifically, THAT ONE!!

OP - it doesn’t matter. Well-cared for brown tack will turn near-black over time. It’s a schooling show, who cares?? Have fun with your horse and that’s all that matters.

Me too!!
Now that I do dressage part of the time, and black is the go too color-I’m looking for brown dressage tack.
