Vxf’s point still holds for me. I’ve never handled black tack that felt even remotely similar to high quality brown tack.

The horror!!!
I agree–I’ve got both jumping and dressage tack, and the black dressage tack at an equivalent quality/price point is never quite as soft and supple. For instance, I have the exact same set of Nunn Finer rubber reins in both brown and black; the brown ones are noticeably suppler than the black ones. They’re from the same company, out of the same type of leather, purchased within 6 months of each other, and have gotten the same care. The only thing that could make a difference is the dye.
PS, I used those brown rubber, buckle-ended reins at a hunter schooling show last night. We placed exactly where we should have, so I may have to rethink this bothering to switch out to horrid laced reins for hunter shows. At least local ones
I haven’t read the whole thread but I would go have fun, who cares what tack you have, However I would defiantly swap out that clincher brow band…for a crystal encrusted one like this http://www.equiture.biz/capri-gold-and-multi-bronze-megabling-browband-2511-p.asp
But I am a dressage rider.
And I love bling. (;
( I think clincher brow bands are way more interesting than plain ones)

I think that’s like wearing Guess jeans with the high waist and the ankle zippers just because that is what was cool when you were in high school. It’s ok to be cool……decades late.
If I could still wear my Guess jeans with the high waist and the ankle zippers I wouldn’t give a rat’s ass about what decade I was cool in. I would be so psyched that I still had my figure.

ah, no black tack, local or any other hunter show, would you use hu8nter tack at a dressage show?
I’m sure I’ll be the billionth person to comment on this, but yep! I showed at a few Equine Canada Gold dressage shows in an oakbark close contact saddle and figure 8 bridle. In 2nd level. And the next horse I did it in a dark dark havana CC and a wide noseband hunter bridle. And was champion at one show!
