They are looking great! Thanks for the update and pics!!
Sad news today. Garfunkel has been really showing his age the past month. Bony on top, heavy underneath, slow moving, etc…. He is about two years old, which is the lifespan for many rats. We found him in his nest with Simon this morning. He had passed overnight. Contrary to popular belief, Simon didn’t touch his buddy. He just looked sad.
Simon seems to be in fine condition for being almost two himself. We scrubbed down the cage and gave him all fresh bedding. He also was given a bath and towel dried in front of the heater. He got a lot of attention today. He will need a lot of attention from now on.
I love that you gave him a bath and he let you. And he after pics - I can almost feel how soft he is - he looks soft.
Maybe one day I will get another ratty. They are so adorable and clever.
I am so sorry for your loss.
I am glad that Simon is enjoying the extra attention.
Sad news indeed. Some pets feel like they belong to the board, and he was one of them. Thank you for sharing with us. His was a lovely story and I’m glad he had you.
So sorry for your loss. I am sure Simon felt it deeply. I had rats shortly after college and was amazed at the holes they left behind. I never had one eat their cage mate after passing. All of them seemed sad when their friends passed.
Thank you for sharing his story here. Rats get a bad rap.
Thank you for the update.
Oh, I am so sorry to hear about Garfunkel. Poor little love, he had such a good life with you though!
Yes, that’s probably one of the biggest downfalls of rats, is their short lifespans. When I had mine, they definitely were missed when they passed. Each had huge personalities.
I agree, domesticated rats get a very bad rap when they are actually amazing, smart, sweet and quite clean pets. I’m glad Simon is doing well.
Please keep us posted when you can!
I’m so sorry about the loss of Garfunkel, so tough. Little Simon is just adorable …hope he continues to do well :adhesive_bandage:
