baby strollers for walking around the farm?

I am sure that there will be nice days that the family, little one in tow, will come to the barn or a horse show while I am riding, and I want to get a stroller that will be able to handle the terrain. It would also be great to have a stroller that can handle nature trails and the like!

Any brand or style suggestions from moms or babysitters that have “been there” would be much appreciated!

I have no recommendations, but I do have one “warning” from fellow competitors at a show (or even just riding at a barn)–please don’t do a baby backpack! The biggest spooks I’ve ever seen were the times horses have encountered the “human with two heads”. Very scary…

REALLY!?

I was just going to suggest a back-pack instead because I’ve found horses very accepting of them & more convenient for busy parents.

I used to run around a small barn with little man on my back feeding & cleaning. He loved it and always fell FAST asleep!

Hey–I am always happy to talk babies or horses or both, so feel free to give me a holler!

We have and love one of the Jeep Liberty strollers, like THIS one. My MIL walked our daughter up and down our long gravel driveway in it for months, we took her on the trails at Tom Brown, playing disc golf, etc. It is somewhat heavy and really needs two hands to fold it up and get it in the car, but handles terrain beautifully, allows for full recline or sitting up, has great suspension, and has a front wheel that can be either locked or allowed to swivel freely (the latter option is necessary for terrain…). The other strollers I found that were good on terrain cost at least twice as much!

THIS book is great for guiding you through baby-related purchases.

From the time DD was 2 weeks old, we used an Ergo carrier, and still use it (comfortably!) now that she’s 19 months and 25 lbs. I almost always preferred it over the stroller, and none of the horses (or dogs) we have encountered, including mine, ever seem to give it a second glance. Certainly not the kind of reactions I’ve seen from those horse-eating baby strollers. Perhaps the hiking backpacks would be a different story?

You’re due really soon, right? How are you feeling? Whenever you’re up for getting back into riding, you are always welcome at our place!

Ooh, I was looking at the Jeep stroller the other day. The one in the store had flat tires, so it was not the best way to try it out sadly. It looks like a great stroller… but I have to admit, I think the steering wheel toy is pretty cool too! You aren’t kidding about the prices of the other all-terrain strollers!

I remember riding past your stroller now that you mention it. Your horses are so sensible! They never even blinked.

We got some kind of carrier as a gift, not sure the brand. Haven’t tried it on yet because I plan to be a very different size when I start wearing it!

It’s insane, but when I’m not thinking about baby stuff or work stuff, I am daydreaming about working out. I can’t wait to see my feet again, have abs again, and of course ride again!

The baby is due in October so I have a little while to go… We are both doing great, but it feels like I will never have enough time to get everything done before he comes!

I forgot to tell you how awesome the pictures of your little one riding are… I LOVE her pink helmet! And it looks like you are both having a blast

I have an InStep that I got off of Craigslist for $40! I take it to the barn, it goes on walks through the pastures. It has bicycle tires so it rides a lot better than plastic wheels/tires.

I also have an Ergo, my horses haven’t seemed to notice the monkey on my back. Love the Ergo though, She is 25 lbs and I barely notice she is back there. Worth the $$. I still have not figured how to get her on my back without help though…

Get a BOB Revolution.

BOB Sport Utility.

I use it daily at the farm… baby, horse and I love it. Incredibly practical, we also got the sun screen/sheild, but not for the sun, to keep mosquitoes out when walking in the woods, and the cup holder thing (for the mom, not the baby) it is very handy. It rides/drives great on trails, field, etc, and we fold it up and pop in in the car easily when we go places.

I have the dually Ironman Bob. IN YELLOW!! Horses are always either snorting at it or thinking its a wheelbarrow with hay

I had a Phil & Ted’s stroller (similar to the Bob strollers) that I used at horseshows when my kids were still too small to “fight the stroller”…I lost that battle the minute they became mobile and have a lovely stroller sitting in my garage that I may never use again.

I had several different backpacks too…my horses seemed to be a lot less spooky with the backpacks than the strollers. A lot less scary for me too. Every time I had an infant in a stroller I’d wheel around the shows totally paranoid that a horse would get loose and put a foot in the stroller somehow. Never had any concerns with the backpacks or carriers.

Bob Revolution. No contest. They are the best pushing stroller ever and they wear like iron.

My Britax B-agile has handled everything except sand very well. I had to turn around and pull it through the sand, pushing didn’t work so well. Otherwise it does well on grass, gravel, and packed dirt. It folds easily one-handed, and the 3-point wheels make it pretty darn maneuverable. Kiddo almost always falls asleep in it.

I’m pretty sure the baby in question when this thread was started is now in first grade.

Just break down and get a Bob. I had the Revolution one, but I needed a double stroller. Pushes great through sand and grass.

Most important advice, don’t get a fixed front tire if you go with a jogger. Giant pain if you go any other way than straight.

When I only had to cart around one kid, I used a Moby wrap. My husband used a backpack, but it made my back ache. Horses generally spooked more at the big red stroller than at the backpack/carrier if I remember correctly. Mine got too heavy for strollers last year. Such a sad day.

No wonder the links didn’t work

Funny about the dates! I was going to tell you about my antique wicker baby buggy with the LARGE wheels that went every place so easily. It did cement or dirt, grass equally easily. Husband bought it at a yard sale for fun. We used the heck out of it with 3 babies, many miles on the old wheels. No dogs in the kids face, not down by street dirt, held toys, spare stuff and kept them shaded too. Still have it out in the carriage shed, waiting for summer to have the new grandson using it. Whatever you get have big wheels on it for easier rolling along. Like over 12 inches and up. Little wheels dig into dirt, break easier in stress.

Hey, someone else may have been wondering recently.

I know this discussion is bit old but i just want some suggestions regarding your experience with baby strollers
I was Looking For the best baby stroller And some questions regarding their use so i found this discussion forum. Can Anyone please Suggest Which brand is will be the best for my new born baby?
i saw in a discussion that Your baby may fall from the stroller somehow if its not of good quality. which is the safest nd good baby stroller need serious suggestion please.

Warning … Remember horses are funny, prey animals. Everybody likes to eat them and they know it. Consider how they may react when a stroller approaches or they approach a stroller with a “demon” in it. It’s fun until someone gets hurt.
