Badminton 2024 Thread!

Debating on whether to get Badminton TV, is it worth it to those who have it?

yes. But like I say, I haven’t ridden for over 20 years, and I never tackled anything more challenging than a training level course. Badminton aloways looks easier than Burghley, but this year, it does look quite difficult. Possibly because it is an Olympic year, but since they have lowered the level of difficulty, that should not be a reason. There are a lot of combination fences and several at the end of a 31 numbered jump course
.
Syrynx yes. I have done so before, and Badminton and Burghley are seperate from CMH. If you subscribe to those it is an added expense, but worth it in my opinion. There are never any of the annoyances you see with CMH. I do not subscribe to CMH. I simply cannot afford it.

Happy to help. the main Badminton page has a small menu at the upper right part of the page. Then hit competiton, and scroll down to cross country course.

and you are not blind. This happens to me all the time. Sometimes here I feel so stupid but

@Larksmom. The thing about Eric Winter as a course designer is that he has a knack of producing fences that look difficult to humans but that horses can read really well. Ride forward and go clear. I asked him once how long it took him to design a course and, to my obvious surprise, he said “Oh, about ten minutes” but then added “What takes the time is getting the fine details right” and he explained the importance of getting even a plant pot in just the right spot to help the horses. His stringing is always interesting because often it is a clue as to the best line to a fence.

Given the poor season so far in the UK, with preparation hindered by so many events cancelled due to rain and waterlogging, I’m sure that endless discussions are happening daily at Badminton and contingency plans are in place. Last year, after the deluge the day before xc, the course was shortened with one section removed entirely but the time remained the same i.e. the course was run slower .

I am not an eventer, so this might be a stupid question.
However, I have not seen or heard about Michael Jung in a while.
Is he just focusing on the Olympics & 4* horses now?
I noticed he wasn’t on one of the start lists attached above (maybe it wasn’t updated, idk).

@Belmont He doesn’t have any top Eventers at present and he is concentrating on showjumping I believe.

Thank you for this. When I look at the courses at burghley nearly every year, they scare me to death, and I think they are death traps, but they ride fine. It just looks long, (31 numbered jumps?) and big. But like i said, I am a bit of a worry wart.

I had this same exact question when I was reading this thread yesterday, so I looked up his record:

https://data.fei.org/Person/Performance.aspx?p=8A5481639E04031CA340DA6064DDE507

He rode a few in a 2* and 3* just this past week.

I wonder what happened with Fischerchipmunk? My research has not gotten me that far yet.

$40? It says 19# ( don’t know where the Euro sign is,) and I cannot berlieve it is $40. I haven’t looked at my CC to see what the American charge is.

I’m a nerd.

Using today’s xchange rate it would be just under 25 USD.

The Germans do not often ride at 5* I don’t think especially when the Olympics are less than a 4* He did ride here before because there were not the divide between the two divisions and he won so many times at Kentucky it basically paid his way over. I was pleased that several Germans did come to Kentucky ths year.

I love their candy! Give me some Twix. They kept candy in the media center all weekend in KY. I also am a huge fan of Buckeye. I wish my barn fed it.

He has started his eventing season - as is his usual routine, his big horses come out at an early season 3*, start cross-country, and then retire midway around the course. He did just that with fischerChipmunk, his 2022 Kentucky 5 star winner and ride for the Tokyo Olympics and last year’s European Championships, and everyone should be sitting up because he scored a 17.4 on the flat. Based on the way he typically likes to prepare horses, I expect we’ll see that horse run back at a few 4S soon. He also had some up-and-coming event horses out for a full run in the same class.

Given that Paris runs at the end of July, many top riders on proven horses have elected to skip a spring long-format event to minimize risk and give them more opportunities to polish the performance before the Olympics. Germany doesn’t have a massive amount of depth at the moment, so assuming soundness Michael must be quite comfortable with his selection chances and I expect this is the plan he is following.

Thank you sorry I did see that, I was thinking it was their full filing of the course walk through. I hate they only use drawings on that one mostly.
