Maybe they will rethink the course designer. This is his first year and XC is carnage.
You know Mr. Della Chiesa is the chairman of the FEI Eventing Committee and has presided over the gutting of the sport since about 2006.

I think many of you have forgotten old Badminton that used to cause people to come from the back of the field. I don’t think there is anything wrong with the course just other factors like weather have made it very tough.
Sarah Cohen had a stop and decided to retire. Louisa Lockwood had another stop and retired. Commentary questioning this as a WEG selection event - not going as planned for many combos.
Then long hold on course for fence repair (odd as it wasn’t a fence, a bridge that no horse hit, but that if they take the long route at teh Vee, they have to cross).
Then they got going and there was a hold from what could have been a really nasty fall but horse saved by frangible pin (had jumped fence before awkwardly so rider kicked on at next fence and horse responded - so they took an epic flyer and ended up in the middle of the fence) Frangible pin did fantastic job.
Tina Cook then got started (meanwhile i’d made muffins :D) and had a really silly glance off on an early skinny. Now has her shit in gear and is going well.
Tiana now at the lake. going well.
Viney - are you able to watch this? I know the scoreboard looks like ‘carnage’ but it really isn’t. I have to say (so far, and I don’t want to curse it), it’s been great (aside from seeing poor Lucinda pull up). Faults have been mainly riders just missing their lines and horses glancing off.
Henny messed up somehow (and I didn’t see how) and the horse above suffered rider error but all in all…
Tiana about to be another casualty. Jumping well but just went a route that was not a route. Likely eliminated. Another example of rider error being the cause not horse casualty.
Over and Onward - haven’t seen anything about a fence being removed.

Couldn’t agree more, mugsgame…

It was the fence out of the quarry, removed before XC started.
Tina Cook - clear and really fresh looking - silly stop to start - but great round for team GB for the future. Tiana seems to be continuing - but had a stop at Huntsmans close - missed jerk at first corner and stopped at second. Tiana should not have stood him off frist part so far. Continuing, despite ongoing questions around her jumping of the Vee. (Looked like she only did half of the slow route).
That was 18B that was removed before. Somebody earlier posted a question about fence 26 being removed.
I LOVE Tina’s partnership with her horse, she really gives that lovely horse an educational ride and does it so sympathetically. So glad they got round.

No, that was the mound. 2 fences were removed before the start of XC.
The replay of Ringwood Magister really shows how far off the corner he was, the horse really didn’t stand much of a chance!
Tiana finished. only just over a minute over time wise - good for this event, today! As commentators said ‘she’ll look back at this and kick herself’… But generally a good round for her.
Dani Evans stop at fence seven. Had huge jump at part 1 - ran down hill and past second part. Represented, horse ducked out and she fell. Dutch Rider Merel Blom’s horse is jumping like a pro - never seen it before - but great round so far.
I was responding to the question of whether the hold on the course was fence 26 being removed. It wasn’t. As others have said a fence was removed before the start, but nothing else.
Did Tiana have a stop? Badminton score board doesn’t show one…

Seamus Marwood silly stop at Hollow, just missed stride totally. Stopped on the longer, easier route and then popped the harder route.
Horse not operating, had stop onto Outlander bank and they’ve retired. Sam Griffiths on course now. They are well over half way now and ground is looking really good considering. Wet sometimes means there’s an extra inch added to evrey fence, but horses still on top of the ground.
Sam riding nice round so far. approaching the Vee

Bit odd, pretty sure the horse steamed past the 2nd corner in huntsman’s close! Fence judges are having a lot of work to do today!
Yes, one technical that is being disputed and one actual at the Huntsman’s close. I’m sure they’ll update soon. It was a definite stop - I’m not the only one that saw it(!) Nomolvides refers to it too!
David O’Connor on BBC commentary now. Sam Griffiths jumping really nicely and finished clear. In fourth place now.
Selina Milne tipped off at quarry at 18. Several horses left a leg here. commentators view is that by taking B out before the comp riders think it is ‘easy’ and not riding it with respect. Going too fast and horses dropping leg when they see the big dip. However on balance I think the feeling is that it was right to take out part B
Well, maybe they took the view that she didn’t present at B. TV view definitely looked like a stop but good on her - she seems to have escaped two stops! The commentators certainly thought it was a stop.
Harry Dzenis over-rode - a mistake that shouldn’t happen at this level (D O’C) and horse and rider fell.
Riddlemaster on course now. Going well. Hit fence that Henny hit hard. ‘A rare mistake, just outside the line, I’d have to say, it’s a rider mistake, they’ll give her the penalties’ ‘She’s having communication issues’ (DOC).
I would like a King Eider please! What a horse, he makes me think he’d take care of me all the way round!
