Badminton;

Radio Badminton is quite good for those of us without the live feed.

Ros Canter said that this rides almost like express eventing. That’s not good to hear.

Ben Hobday gets popped off after Shadowman hangs a leg. Really too bad he was having a great round.

It seems like if your horse isn’t super scopey or too bold you might fall today. The course shouldn’t be designed in a way that if your horse is a bit careless it falls imo.

He rolled out of the way FAST

Ben Hobday was a rider fall, the horse caught a toe over the fence and unseated him and he couldn’t save it.

Wow that would have been another rotational fall. Thank god for clips.

Good on Helen’s horse for jumping that first solar panel. He ran straight thru her brakes on the way down to it.

He did, I wonder if he ever was a jump jockey like a lot of riders from Ireland. Those instincts are enviable.

Tom Rowland at the second of two corners, the horse spooked a bit at the first one and wasn’t concentrating fully on the second. It collapsed so he’ll get the penalty for triggering the pins.

Nicola is said to be stable and at the hospital

Nicola update: She’s stable and being assessed at a local hospital, scans etc. Keep sending positive thoughts.

I find it bizarre that the penalties for frangible pins are so low - that absolutely prevented a fall and to me should be penalized way more harshly than a stop.

No. Most are not horse falls but there have been 3. Most are twists and rider popping off or run outs and stops. Some are making it look pretty easy. Definitely requires riding by feel and a good xc horse. Nicola’s fall was really really bad.

Is 3 whips illegal now? Thought it was 2 only?

How many rider falls Vs horse falls?

Hobdays was almost a horse fall and then there was almost one at the corner but thankfully the jump fell apart completely.

I also wondered if that will get a reprimand. Horse was not interested in jumping down into the water, two refusals and retired. (Mollie, right? Unless I’m getting mixed up.)

My quick research (Google :joy::joy:) does say it was changed to 2 in 2019.

Yes, Mollie. How does that work if they’ve retired? What is the reprimand? If they hadn’t retired and gone on, would they be eliminated?

Possibly a yellow card?

Fair enough. When I posted that comment the live scores were showing 6 eliminations, 3 of which were horse falls (Tom McEwen, Nicola Wilson, and Cathal Daniels) and one was Oliver, whose trouble I didn’t see but it sounds as though it is being considered a horse fall, since he didn’t come off.
