Badminton;

Tami also has a busted up ankle. She was talking about it on the RideIQ podcast. You can see her icing it outside the dressage ring

Mai Baum’s test was gorgeous. I have mad respect for Tamie’s mental and physical endurance and focus. Her big grey mare is presumably still at Hagyard recovering, she competed how many at Kentucky, then hop on a plane likely Monday to meet up with Mai Baum in England and just a few short days later on Thursday she’s laid down a lovvvvely ride on Mai Baum on a busted up ankle in a huge atmosphere.

Hat’s OFF to her.

This apparently has been an issue in some of the Area 1 events ceasing to exist. The UL riders want footing, and the private estate venues don’t have the budget or the will to put in pricey all-weather footing for arenas that will be used a couple times a year at most. So the UL riders, and their students, stopped coming.

Nicola Wilson with a good example of a great rein back.

Are the horses wearing earpuffs under their bonnets, or is it the new fashion? The girls at my barn are into matching bonnets and saddlepads.

You’re not allowed to.

Its for weather and bugs, wind etc.

It’s such a shame, I always preferred riding on grass (both for dressage and jumping).

I cannot seem to find the Saturday XC times/order of go, has anyone seen that anywhere? I know it starts 6:30am ET.

Bu to complicate things, there are noise-blocking ear bonnets. I think those are legal.

You are correct

Ear hoods are permitted for all Events and may also provide noise reduction. However,
ear hoods must allow for ears to move freely and must not cover the Horse’s eyes and
ear plugs are not permitted (with the exception of prize giving ceremonies). The ear
hoods should be discreet in colour and design. Ear hoods may not be attached to the
noseband.

ā€œThe order of starting is the same for the dressage and cross country test and will be fixed by draw. On the last day competitors will be required to jump in reverse order of the placings after the cross country phase.ā€

Good turf is wonderful to ride on. If you are the first couple of riders. In wet weather it deteriorates quickly. I know this happens too on cross country but on cross country you are not following a prescribed track as closely as you are in dressage. Or showjumping.

I’ve ridden dressage in bottomless wet turf before and it is not. fun. Even with huge studs, my horse had no traction or confidence in his footing even at training level. When it’s good, it’s great; when it’s bad, it’s very bad.

I’m dying at Ollies comments :rofl:

I tend to agree I thought his test should have scored higher, they were agreeing on the Eventing pod also. But that is Eventing and I’m sure it gives Ollie more to go for tomorrow.

Tomorrow is gunna be epic :grimacing:

She’s standing 5th on a highly competitive score AT BADMINTON, I think maybe you are overreacting.

She schools on grass all the time. Her farm in Cali is irrigated and there is grass. What I’m assuming she’s never done is actually competed that test in a giant stadium like that with crowds on turf.

She could have potentially eeked out a couple more points, but also think it’s probably to her mental benefit that she’s not the front runner people are gunning for at this point.

That’s pretty rich for you to say that what you would do is smarter than what Tamie Smith, a competitive elite rider at the top of the sport, did for riding her horse in the dressage.

Arm chair quarter back anyone!?!?

She still scored in the mid 20s. Best American rider.

Also, US Eventing did not send her over there- all the USA riders competing there are doing so out of their own pockets ( or a grant they won).

For those who bought the live stream- have there been any problems on day 2 for dressage?

I’m debating on just buying it to watch the xc live tomorrow, but I’m nervous because I’ve heard that it has been horrible the first few days.

Also, on one of the US riders post on fb, a few others have posted links to free live stream, but I’m nervous to click on it because it might be a virus, scam or bot and not really free live stream

I have had no issues at all watching the live stream or the replays. Now I did NOT watch the jog, but the replay of the jog was perfect.

If one has poor internet speed then a live stream from another country is going to tax it, a bit like a US horse doing dressage on grass. I"M JOKING STOP HITTING ME!
