Balou du Rouet 2010/2011 offspring?

Yes Karin I could not believe you did not mention your special 2011 filly by Balou but thought you must be tired from foal watch! She is very nice congrats again!

All of the Balou foals and offpsring posted have been simply outstanding thanks everyone for posting links and photos it is very nice to see the Balous from a wide range of mares.

There is no question Balou very much stamps his foals for us it is their minds that we love the most as they are just so easy to work with and they love people!

Thanks again everyone for taking the time to share your lovely horses.

SO in love with my 2010 colt!!!
He’s got so much personality, he knickers at me all the time, we have little conversations… and MOVE… my god can he move!
He is just the right combination of athlete… and he’s a tiny bit spooky, but then likes to investigate everything

Mom is Indoctro x Nimmerdor so I have high hopes for this little man!

I put him in the arena a few weeks ago and he goofed around and jumped a little flower box on his own! I almost didn’t get it on video because he surprised me and I put the camera down to watch him… lol!

Hopefully that works…

Our barn sharer has just had the most stunning colt foal born, by a son of Balou’s - Balou Star, (owned by Udo Oppermann in Germany), who demonstrated that he has certainly inherited his sire’s jump when we went to visit him. We were also so impressed by his calm and trainable temperament.

The foal is already running his dam ragged in the field, and has the most balanced canter that I’ve seen in a week-old foal. He has the powerful backend and hindleg action that you would wish for from any descendant of Balou’s!

3 days old

Here are pictures of our new Balou colt. This was his first time out, so he was discovering how to use those legs - didn’t take long. Need a ‘B’ name, guys.

Very nice! Congratulations!!

What I don’t get is my two Balou’s are not big. 16H maybe. The mare’s colt by Abke is HUGE, going to be 17H or bigger. The mare is not small, she’s a solid 16.2H.

Colt by Baloubet out of a Hanoverian mare by Contendro I - Graf Grannus - Landadel I - Frühlingsball.

HFSH and others that have smallish Balou babies; were they small from the beginning? I’m surprised by the size of my Balou (out of a 15.3 TB mare) she’s quite tall! Wondering what the growth patterns of some of the other Balou foals have been and where they ended up.

I just love seeing all of the BEAUTIFUL Balou foals! They all seem to catch the eye and have a look at me presence, something I see in my filly.

the colt (the oldest) no, the filly was a bit smaller than the colt but not out of line with others her age.

Amazing was very immature at 2 when I purchased him…so much so that the Silver Creek team decided not to start him at 2 as they do most of the others. He grew and matured a ton at 3, and in fact, is still maturing. Just the other day, my farrier stated that he had grown since she saw him 6 weeks ago!

I’ve noticed late growth spurts in many breeds, but mostly in the wbs. I wonder why… I’m talking late four, early five and suddenly butt high and funky. Then they balance out. love love love Balous. Love Amazing…

Balou is not big. He is beefy, but has short-ish legs and just isn’t that tall - or so he appears as a mature stallion, based on my visit to PS’s this past fall. Doesn’t really surprise me that the offspring aren’t that tall. The Abke’s I saw in Europe were all very leggy & refined, off the top of my head I’m not sure of their height, but they seemed quite different than the Balou’s.

Lovely Balou’s on here!

Both our Balou colts are now two months and they are tall for their age based on our mares previous offspring.

Both mares are tall with long legs, Guru du Rouet from our Ferro mare is very elegant with some substance and he is long in the leg, based on her other foals he is going to be tall at least 16.3 hands when finished.

Our Ahorn mare is a good solid 16.3 hands and she produces very tall offspring. Her now five year sold son by Chin Chin stands over 17.2 hands and keeps growing, her Flemmingh son is also a good 17.2 hands, her Balou foal, Glowstick, which is her first Balou is very big for his age, very tall and has lots of substance. She has had two Chin Chin foals and when I compaire them to Glowstick he is much more developed at the same age, her Chin Chin foals were much slower to mature and fill out, they were very tall but just took time to fill out and grow into their frames. Glowstick came out looking like a fully developed mini horse already just perfect and so well balanced very athletic like he was working out in-utero :). So far, Glowstick, is her largest most developed foal. I think he is going to be tall based on his length of leg now at 2 months.

The Balous I have seen that are mature have all been a good solid 16.2 hands or taller having said that I am not sure the height of the mares they were from.

Balou seems to give a great top line and massive hind end which of course you need for show jumping. It could be that they are slower to mature in terms of height.

It will be intresting to see as more of his offspring are now of riding age in NA.

I would also like to see what Karin has to say, her Balou offspring seems to be a nice size and she has the oldest riding age ones here that I know of.

I bought a wonderful Balou in utero and she was the most beautiful filly you could find. She was big and looked mature very young. However and this is what I find with the one that look so well balance and conformed as younsters, they usualy don’t get tall. Her dam was 16.2 but this filly was was not quite 15.3 as a three year old.

I do love Balou but I was actually considering his son Bon Balou for a mare of mine. He seems like he may throw a bit more size but haven’t seen too many of his offspring. I love Bon Balou bloodlines and he looks like a fun horse.

I have a Balou three year old out of an Ahorn mare. She will be three next month and is 15.2hh. I am hoping she will grow a bit more. She has been butt high since I bought her as a weanling and never seems to level out. However she is very filled out compared to my three year old Cabardino.

Balou offdspring

Hi Everyone!
I want to weigh in here, but with Bleu SCF Ster (Balou du Rouet X Silvio 1 Elite Pref) going on a week waxed, and overdue, sleep and time are at a minimium!<g> In addition, it will be a long post, since Iv’e had 12 Balou du Rouet’s, out of 4 different mares(including the first one born on US soil, Athena SCF Ster, who is 17.2 hands, out of a 16.3 hand mare, FYI), and am happy to share my experiences. Today is my husband’s Birthday, so I will try to post tomorrw.
In the meantime, our SMALLEST Balou offspring is 16.1 hands, and still growing (Bleu). I LOVE this stallion, and had another Balou born this spring, Gaia…

Back tomorrow!!
Warmly,
Karin

Breeding and Height info on our 11 Balou du Rouet’s…

Hello Everyone!

Thought I would weigh in here, as I have had extensive experience with Balou du Rouet offspring…

We have had 11 Balou du Rouet’s, out of 4 different mares (including the first one born on US soil, Athena SCF Ster), and am happy to share my experiences. All are out of KWPN mares, whose sizes I have listed below. ALL Balou’s presented to the KWPN have been either Ster, or First Premium, with one exception, (who had a bad day!<g>). ALL have had excellent, correct, conformation, very good to great movement, and those that are old enough to jump, are extremely scopey, and talented. They are all sensitive, but sensible, and very smart and rideable, with a great willingness to please. Balou du Rouet is my favorite sire, and all of our offspring are beautiful, “whole package horses”. I will list the Balou du Rouet offspring individually, with their breeding, and (because it seems to be of concern to several breeders), their sizes at maturity…

DAMS:

MARIE LOUISE ELITE PREF (Silvio 1 X Sit This One Outxx X Saluut) 16.3 hands

JOLIE PREF (Wanroij X Acc TBxx) 16.3 hands

Wow Karin thanks for posting such detailed information I was hoping you would add your experience so thanks for taking the time!

Hope your foal from Bleu arrives soon so you can get some sleep best wishes on this.

I did not realize you had so many Balou offspring that is a very impressive list.

I can not say re our two Balou foals yet as they are months old but all I can say is that we have had many foals over the years so I can guess very well on the mature size of our mares foals of course nothing is certain with horses. Both our Balou foals are above average size for their age and we expect them to be tall based on past foals from both mares and our own experience.

Thanks again!

You are VERY welcome Michelle!
