Banderas by Balou Du Rouet

Anyone hear anything on any of his offspring? Are they hot? I’m not sure my mare would throw a top jumper by him, she’s more huntery, but he has such an amazing jump, almost huntery at the lower height, he’s a good mover, any idea why he couldn’t throw a huntery baby?

I absolutely think he could produce a hunter but the mare also play a big role in that. His first crop is coming this year, so it remains to be seen what they will be like, but I am betting very nice.

I have one on the way for June. Dam is a nice hunter type TB so we are hoping for a fancy hunter baby  I will post pics in the foal announcements when it arrives and will certainly share my experience with regards to temperament once the little one gets here

I think some of the Balou Du Rouet studs out there are so nice to watch-athletic, flashy and seem to have the perfect canter to jump off of. I’ve also wondered how they/their offspring will fare in the hunter ring.

I am expecting a Banderas foal in July out of my Wanroij x MilkieXX keur pref mare. This mare has plenty of scope, supple back, quick reflexes and a great hindend, and scored very well in the jumping portion of her IBOP, including her rideability. My aim is to produce a top jumper horse.

From what I have seen of the Balou offspring, they share the same terrific bascule, quick reflexes and incredible scope.
With this prepotency, I would expect to see the sons pass at least some of this along as well. Banderas has Grannus as dam-sire, so the scope part should be a no-brainer, as long as the mare is a decent jumper. I usually wait to see a young stallion’s first foal crop before using him, but with Banderas, I felt confident he would be a significant contributor to the equation in a good way. We shall see whether my feelings are right . . .

This year is his first foal crop! We have one coming the end of May! Can’t wait!

When I watched his videos, he was breathtaking. His movement is not only correct, but it comes so EASY and elastic. He has wonderful freedom through the shoulder and a superb swing through the back. He has a spectacular jump that made the crowd in Germany go, “woooooowwww” at his 30-day testing.

I am so hoping to breed my hunter mare to him this spring for a 2011 foal!!

I met him in person, shortly after he arrived in Canada. I only got to see him move at liberty, as he was not going under saddle yet, but I was extremely impressed by his overall athleticism and balance. He has a lot of presence and is definitely one to look out for in the future!

To produce a hunter I would only use him on a mare with little to no knee action. His movement certainly does not scream hunter. The Amazing stallion moves more appropriately for the hunter ring.

To produce a jumper he would be high on my list.

Here’s the f![](rst of 2 expected Banderas babies at my barn. This one is out of a mare that has thrown hunter-types. This filly is ADORABLE. The other mare is an ex-grand prix jumper. That will be a nice baby as well!

I have met him in person and seen him go… wow. Talk about scope!

I have a Banderas colt on the ground; super refined and modern and quite flashy. So far, of the three foals I have on the ground he is the most laid back and personable. Hard to say about his movement, as he spends most of his time running and bucking and jumping (he’s just now about a week old). However, I would breed back to Banderas, based upon this foal. There is a picture here: http://www.hillsidehranch.com/hillsidehranch_008.htm. And if you search for Hillside H Ranch on Facebook their are a ton more pics, where he actually has his feet on the ground!

Gorgeous foals!

Hello Everyone!
Gorgeous foals! Congratulations to both of you, and all that are expecting Banderas foals! If he is anywhere near as prepotent as his sire, Balou du Rouet, he will throw fantastic athletes with type, elasticity, and fantastic jumping ability (I feel qualified to say this as we have had EIGHT Balou foals, out of three different mares)! I can’t wait to see Dutch’s Banderas foal, as the same fantastic Dam, also had a very special Balou du Rouet filly…PERFECT for comparison of father and son!!!

We also are expecting a Banderas baby this year - late June to early July. We paired him with one of our Thoroughbred mares who has produced some super hunter-type foals:

I cannot wait to see what she gives us by Banderas and am already trying to think of Spanish and/or money related names starting with B! Her name is Ninety Deniro.

foals

What I have seen so far by him are very impressive!

Never Say Never keur pref. f![](nally delivered her Banderas foal, a colt in the wee hours of July 27. He is chestnut with 3 socks/stockings, star connecting strip and a snip. The legs also have ermine which is cool. . . so probably the most chrome of any of Winnie’s (aka. Never Say Never) eight offspring. He is very tall, and for the first time ever, she need some assistance to get the shoulders through the pelvis. Afterwards, it was a good 20-30 minutes before she even attempted to stand she was so worn out.

As far as temperament in these early hours, he is very friendly and easy to work with - my only problem was his size when he needed help getting up. I missed my 22 year old son, Ali, who was not at home this time to help out. He’s so much stronger and taller than me. It took over two hours for the foal to find his milk source, but once he did, he was always going back for more. Winnie, as usual, had tons of colostrum. I drained some off for freezing. So far, so good.

No name yet and only one decent picture taken when the foal was not quite 12 hours old. Yesterday was rest day and today it is raining, so no pictures outside.

Very nice video… lovely colt (you must be thrilled with him). Great footage… and I love that you resisted the urge to put a music track to the video… instead you have great footage of a lovely foal. He’s got a great left hook btw… and he’s not so bad with his right.

Here ![](s a picture of Faust NSN (Banderas x Wanroij, keur pref), at four days old.
