Barbaro ~ America's Horse

The Movie

Gee , Thanks I am always up for a good movie and that story has always intrigued me so much . I will look for it on Nexflics. I am trying now to get in the " Derby" mood and I know it is going to be very emotional for all. Will be thinking of you ALL during that time. Cheers !!

I never could figure out why they were so distraught over a woman they didn’t know, who was none too tightly wrapped, who was overhorsed from the start, who made a pile of bad decisions, then discussed it all on international television.

Um, you say all of this/ know all of this because you personally KNEW Diana?? Let’ s please let her rest in peace…and let’ s kindly keep this thread about Barbaro.

Still feel the pain

Today I received a book in the mail that I had ordered, but did not expect to arrive until after the Kentucky Derby tomorrow. It is the book on the 132nd Kentucky Derby featuring Barbaro. I turned through the pages with tears in my eyes. I still think of Barbaro often and feel such a sadness that he left us when he did – hoping that he would somehow pull through again. The people who were close to him, his owners, his trainer, his jockey and vetinary staff at New Bolton, and especially Dr Richardson must still feel such a loss - when I sent a donation to the fund, I was not only sent a receipt, but I was sent a hand-written note from a very kind lady at the center. What a comfort to know that such generous, dedicated people were caring for Barbaro!

While I was at Rolex I wore my Barbaro hat, to keep the sun out of my eyes!, a lot of people commented on it…He is still in a lot of hearts and the cloud that will hang over the triple crown this year is dark. I fear watching it for might happen, I do not think I could watch it again…I wear it every where I go and people love it! as they loved Barbaro. It is nice to see that there are people that GET IT!

Thanks Alex~
Update 1847: Dr. Richardson will be featured on the “People who make a difference” segment during NBCs nightly news, 6:30 - 7:00pm.

Tonight or after the derby?

Yes, please, what evening??? Especially since I generally watch ABC rather than NBC evening news.

I have no qualms about taping one and watching the other.

Why does my Tivo all of a sudden say that the documentary isnt on and now its Heads up Poker?

If you are looking for the Barbaro documentary, originally rescheduled to 9 PM Friday, on CNBC, it has been rescheduled to Saturday evening at 8 Pm on NBC.

Thanks! I was wondering why the sattelite tv guide still said some Poker program for 9pm tonight on CNBC. Glad that it’s going to be on regular NBC tomorrow!

hubby may not appreciate it, but I’ve already got it autotuned

Roger Morris has kindly given us permission to publish this story: Saving Barbaro.

You’re welcome…I just happened to come across it late last night, thought everyone here would appreciate it. I did fine watching it 'till they mentioned stall #10 at Churchill…then I couldn’t stop crying. I blame hormones

Thank you, VB (and Alex, of course), GREAT article…

Jackson’s reaction at Barbaro event: pure appreciation
Posted Saturday, May 5, 2007
Gretchen Jackson said Friday that some of the things she does on the spur of the moment surprise even her.
She was explaining how it happened that she went down on both knees with her hands folded after she and her husband, Roy, entered the tent to a standing ovation at the Fans of Barbaro Birthday Celebration last Sunday at Delaware Park.
The Jacksons, of West Grove, Pa., owned the late 2006 Kentucky Derby champion.
They held a short press conference at Churchill Downs on Friday to talk of Barbaro’s legacy, his win in last year’s Derby and the Barbaro Memorial Fund.
“Things I do sometimes like that, I can’t explain,” Gretchen Jackson said with a quick smile. “I just have so much appreciation. The respect I have for them [Barbaro fans], I just wanted to thank them for everything. I didn’t know how exactly to do that, and decided on something like that.”
Barbaro salute at Winterthur
A tribute to Barbaro will be held Sunday at the Winterthur Point-to-Point Races. The Jacksons, trainer Michael Matz and Dr. Dean Richardson, the surgeon who cared for Barbaro at the New Bolton Center, in Kennett Square, Pa., are scheduled to attend.

Wow, Dwight Manley gave up the saddle to the Jacksons after winning the auction and then ponied up $80K to the the Fund. I’d never heard of him before but he sounds like a class act.
